Actually, you just reminded me of something strange: we've encountered people we couldn't play with before, and the theory was because they were in a separate server in Asia...

If you're free right now, could you go to the Match Set-Up thread in the Players's Group and host a match, or join the one I'm about to set up? If our old theory is correct, we might have trouble even playing alongside you, because we might not be able to see you o___o

Game Center is indeed universal, but Freyr is using its own servers with regards to actually coordinating matches. While the online backup data is tied to our GC account (or rather, our Apple IDs), I'm relatively sure that it's being stored on Freyr's own servers, and not something run by Apple/Game Center.

The theory about multiple game servers/segregation of players based on geography is based on the fact that a lot of us used to see a lot of players with Asian characters in their names, but ever since a few updates a while back, we haven't been seeing them. We have since also deliberately tried to set up a match playing alongside a forum participant who lives in Asia, but despite all parties being online and active at the exact same time, we couldn't actually see each other in the lobby/searchbar screen, which was exceedingly strange...

exceedingly stupid, that is. a complaint should be filed. not that I'm particularly unhappy, but this kind of segregation is completely meaningless.

Well there *might* be anpther reason, bigger server is more money. Perhaps 3 smaller ones could be cheaper but for sure, it reduces lag than if you had 1 giant server.

I don't think the reason should be in any interest of mine. the point is, I'm a CUSTOMER!!! any complaint should be filed, the explanation is totally THEIR business.

now, we don't have to speculate why the barrier exists. if the problem is serious, a fix will happen. if there are complaints, there will be amendments. for now, let's just enjoy the game Freyr gave us!

Because you are a customer you want LESS lag right? >.< On a smaller server it is GARUNTEED that there is less lag than a huge server. I agree with you but you might also want to see the goods of their current setup.

Might be an idea to send them a polite email enquiring about whether such a segregation exists, and if so, if there's any reason for its existence. A key thing about any "complaint" we should file is that we should show due respect to the developers, as Sheinfell clued me in on a while ago -- remember, if it wasn't for these guys MAKING the game for us, we wouldn't even be playing it. Plus, they're human - everyone deserves some respect ;)

Anyway, my take on it is that while it would be ideal for Freyr to explain the situation as to any enquiries we have, I believe potential reasons behind the situation *are* in our interest to consider -- failing to consider those risks leading to tunnel vision and a sense of entitlement, and I generally find that the world seems to run more smoothly when people try thinking of explanations and solutions on their own (within reason) instead of simply waiting for one.

Yeah, that was my original speculation with regards to why this segregation was suddenly put into place: too many people were complaining about laggy matches, so Freyr mitigated that by limiting the number of laggy matches we could join. It just happens so that their means/parameters for doing so involve preventing Western players from playing alongside players within the Asian region, as it currently looks.

Nah, I caught that post -- I've just been interacting with some rather jumpy/trigger-happy folks as of late, so my natural reaction is to put up a "mitigating opinion" for safety if I think a post can be interpreted in a certain way which can lead to people getting carried away. Not really necessary over on this particular forum though, just force of habit :)
