Without access to a computer, yeah - you'll either need to jailbreak, or record the video using a second device. What I did earlier (airplay mirroring) is free and doesn't require any additional hardware installations, but again, you've got no comp =.=" If you're going to jailbreak, I recommend doing it on an obsolete/outdated iDevice, so you have less to lose. If you have an older iPod or iPhone which you no longer use and can't offload to anyone, that *could* come in handy for experimental purposes, though I can't vouch for the processor capabilities since I've never owned any of the older models.
It's been suggested that it's a copyright/intellectual property concern. Remember how you can rent or purchase movies and TV shows from iTunes? The concern is that Display Recorder allows you to record a movie you're watching on your iDevice, and then save it as an mp4 and watch it elsewhere. With the retina displays on the iPhone4S and the iPad3, you'll be getting some rather high resolution recordings. ...at least, I THINK that's the argument. I would sure as hell like the display recorder app too, so much simpler =.="
Sheinfell, gonna try recording a few more videos later. For the ones detailing specific techniques (e.g. quickdrawing and weapon switching), am I correct in assuming that 60-90 seconds is a reasonable clip length, or should I make it longer/shorter?
60 seconds sounds about right. Just show what you do a few times, and if it is 90 seconds, it's fine too. you are in the director's chair, after all And really great what you are doing here. Wish I had more time on my hands...
Just a quick heads up, multiple uploads incoming. Video quality has SIGNIFICANTLY improved because I was using my laptop this time, and it was able to use Reflection itself to record the video rather than me needing a second program (that, and my laptop's processor is apparently better than my desktop). The video formats currently go like this (these are all "technique" videos for now): Equipment used: this lets the viewer know what weaponry I'm using. Me setting up a locked online PvP match: not real purpose, just sorta have to do it like that in the absence of video editing software. Me randomly firing each weapon a few times: this is more to demonstrate the "weakness" or "drawback" of the weapon in question, or to give the viewer a visual hint of what I'm doing (what I'm actually doing with my hands is probably where most of the secret is hidden) Me *attempting* to execute the technique. With the quickdraw in particular, I can still flunk it a few times. Any preliminary feedback on those ideas would be greatly appreciated. I'm going to upload them soon, but youtube is a little slow at times. ------------------------------- Technical difficulties: I just tried to record a quickdraw video using the M-27 and the Laser Cannon. As soon as I tried to execute the technique properly, my airplay stream jammed! The program itself didn't crash, but the video stopped a split second after I executed the quickdraw. Something tells me that switching between the M-27 and the Laser Cannon causes a spike in upload data... Sorry DBC, that may have well been my fault the last time we played with Enjoo and you dropped out >.< Thankfully, it looks like it only happens when the Laser Cannon and M-27 are put alongside each other, because there were no issues when the Windblade was used as the M-27's companion
Weapon-switching techniques (Video attempt round 2) Okay, so these are the new batch of videos I've made from my laptop, rather than desktop. Check them out if you're interested, or compare the quality with the first one: Original Quickdraw WARNING: aside from the RPG combo video which has no sound, the new ones have VERY high volumes. I recommend turning down your speakers or headphones to half capacity before watching them. RPG Combo Tutorial Improved Quickdraw Tutorial Twin Snipers Tutorial
Congrats undead, you are officially succesful. Why? I have seen the sniper combo, I don't know if it was you or not but it was an ancient vision round. Someone had the excact same armor...
I am officially a freeloader! I found a great way to steal kills, even if there are no aliens swing your windblade(or even a cutter) and when there is one, well you get a second head start. This makes me look like a freeloader...
Successful at what? I'm checking the video statistics, and there are any two views. Both quite possibly from me, while I was fiddling around with the settings. I don't think I was that player either, because I haven't actually employed the twin snipers in anything but PvE yet.
They might have also read this thread, because I described all of these techniques a while ago. Doesn't really matter though, because I set the video privacies to public - personally, I don't really intend for them to be exclusive/sheltered techniques. Now if someone can actually hit a moving target with two separate sniper shots like that, I would be impressed. A sitting duck would be too easy to pick off if you didn't have to realign your aim...
While the sentiment is much appreciated, feel free to leave any feedback or constructive criticism here that you guys see fit. I'm just mulling over ideas of what to do after showing potential camping spots when I have time - there seem to be plenty of boss-run videos floating around already, and I daresay they look more interesting than my standard camping tendencies. -------------- Just a thought: do people have any team-configurations that they want to try out and record? The trial version of Reflection that I'm using will automatically close after 10 minutes, so I don't know whether I'll need to allocate some time for the video to encode and save, but it might be a fun idea to do a couple of videos showing how people can play as a team with specific set-ups or strategies On the other hand, if it seems rewarding enough and we've got enough things to do, I may just go ahead and buy a license to remove the 10 minute limit...
