Well, I had typed a longish response to your post from last night, and I think I'll go ahead and post it now...

I'm not going to lie, I'll miss have a partner in the game who is guaranteed to be a highly skilled, cooperative team member:)(), but I get it. No guilt.;):)

    Here it is, as promised...

Others may have differing opinions, but I say there's nothing to be ashamed of. The game simply isn't all that deep, the matching mechanic is troubling at times, and let's face it, once you gain the WB, the M Series, and a high level armor set, there's really not all that much to do, except kill and buy stuff.

By the time I hit Ranks 11 & 12, I didn't even notice. I'm anxious about receiving Mithril, and I don't even know what I would do with it, simply because I have everything I need to destroy everything put in my path rather efficiently, and with extreme prejudice.;)

All that said, the game needs to be stimulating in some way. My stimulation came in the form of an intensely generous person PMing me to ask if I would come on boss runs that I had no business being a part of. Bear in mind, I had already given up on the game because of the ammo consumption situation.

From that point, you and others started to accept me as someone you might talk to, and then play with. That was the continuation of my reason for playing. When Superion started posting and playing with us, I had a new reason to keep going. Frankly, the guy is just so cool and fun to play with, he makes me interested in the game, simply because he's involved. Add to that the other posters in this forum (I was going to list names, but didn't want to forget someone:eek:), and you have my motivation for playing at this point.

I now get the pleasure of helping other players, waiting for the day they post saying they lost both teammates and took down the Rages solo, so my motivation remains... for now.

It's like I said, my motivator is the community aspect. With the matching system currently in place, the distribution system for Mithril, and the lack of a story, it would be weird if someone didn't eventually get bored, but that's another very long post, and I'm not going to go into great detail about my work, mostly because it would likely bore the H3ll out of you.

So yeah, it's late (or early;)), I'm rambling, and I agree with you in part. I'm not so interested in a gold Disco Ball, but the game needs something. A dramatically revamped, fully realized community? A story to go with some of the best gameplay I've experienced to date, and not just on my phone?

IDK, but something... maybe varsity jackets?;):D

For the regen tactic to work properly, you may need to prolong the battle/alien wave to ensure that the escort recovers sufficient HP prior to the boss battle (you'll need a minute to recover anything significant, against enemies of that calibre). It's an idea worth trialling, but it definitely isn't necessary to escort players (DBC only needed one or two runs figure out how to stay alive against Mantis and Poison Pit, and I was PRETTY damn impressed when he survived Siegfried the first time he laid eyes on that lizard).

Already working your magic, eh, Capricorn? If you could do that to the boss on your own in a 3-player match, you'll have no problems with a companion :p

This is exactly the reason I wanted you to attempt Siegfried. Lair alone does not indicate your skill level. The fact that you made it to Siegfried alone (without help) reinforces what I already knew from playing with you recently and wanted you to see for yourself...

    You're rapidly improving. Congrats!:D:D

Suggestion? Carry at least 2 HCs and a +25,000HP. When I solo him, I need 2 HCs to take him down, and that's with a level 8 M-27...

Yes and no on your question. The ammo you dumped into him is arguably wasted. What I might do? Clear out the initial stage, gaining all the bonuses from it, and then (I know, gasp!) switch to your WB and run around a bit with Siegfried. Don't waste ammo, but get to know how he moves, what attacks he employs, what his projectile strikes look like... in other words, do some "no ammo recon.";):D

Thanks for the compliments! Onto the real matter at hand. @Darthguy, I only had a few games with you, but I can tell that you're a great player. You helped bring DBC to full strength, you made it so far into the game, it's sad to let you go. What I say is this, though. We can't dwell on the sadness of the past, or if someone leaves our ranks. We have to look at a happier tomorrow, and hope for that person to once more join us. Goodbye

For any map below lair, offensive, camp. Any map above it, bring defensive and tons of HP packs.

Offensive: by the time you cross the 1000 mark, even the small fries will knock off a noticeable portion of your HP. By the time you hit 2,000, enemies will probably kill you in one or two hits even with the Perseus. Once you get to that stage, you'll want the aliens to die before they can reach you. I suggest packing a railgun or laser cannon as your secondary if you're attempting this on Lair (the chaingun is going to be a necessity unless you intend to run all over the map from the bulls).

I gotta tell you guys, if Freyr doesn't do something about matching/bonuses or build either a community or a way of communicating within the game, I'm not sure how long I'm going to stay with this game...

Of about 10 horror stories I could tell you from today, I just finished a successful Serpent match with one other player, after our "third" finally died.

The third "teammate's" kill bonus? 752. Yes, three digits.

My actual teammate and I just missed dragging this D-bag into the boss fight... after he floated around beside us scrounging power-ups and doing nothing to actually help us succeed.

Where he likely would have earned up to 1,000,000+ and as many as 4 Mithril, for essentially doing nothing.

If anyone wants to run later, I'm packing it in until I can get some people I can actually trust to play the game to run with...

@screenshot: press home+sleep at the same time. (in other words, middle and top)
@survival:yes. The enemies scale VERY quickly, while the payouts slightly (I believe)

Yeah, as Superion said above, difficulty scales upwards. I would suggest you camp on Lair, because you'll at least be able to see everything coming at you -- you'll have some difficulty surviving after the 1200 mark, I think, because I literally started using hyper clips on the bulls by that point. Even projectiles are going to smart quite a bit.

I'm sending Freyr an email telling them to check out this forum thread, if they haven't been doing so already. I just arbitrarily jumped to page 150, which was...10 days ago. We're at page 365 now. The level of chatter in here is utterly STAGGERING, and this community phenomenon could really increase player retention if they harnessed it.

Another thing I'd like besides a way to suss out freeloaders in matches is perhaps an in-game friend-list, of sorts, as well as the ability to go to another player's profile and make notes about them that only you can see. That way, if you encounter a freeloader, you can simply note that down on their profile so that it'd show up if you next play with them. Alongside that feature, I think a game history and the option to kick players from your match would work quite well with it >.>

...and yes, I just read your message about going to bed. Riiiiight after I post this =.="

Yeah, as DBC said above, difficulty staying up scales upwards. I would suggest you camp in your bed, because you'll at least be able to fall asleep comfortably-- you'll have some difficulty staying conscious after the 12:00AM mark, I think, because I literally started using counting methods on the sheep by that point. Even semi-sleep is going to feel quite great. :)
