Name system for locating fellow TouchArcaders? Just running a quick suggestion by you guys, feedback/opinion on this suggestion would be MUCH appreciated, especially if you either love it or hate it: What do you guys think of adding something to your Game Center names so it's easier to locate rooms being hosted by people from this thread? I've currently included "[Tarc]" at the back of my name, because "TouchArcade" is probably a nuisance to type, whereas "TA" isn't distinct enough to filter it down to TouchArcaders alone since it's only two letters long. The idea is, we won't need to keep typing and deleting in the searchbar to locate toucharcaders if we only need one universal search term to locate anyone from here, making it quicker to find and join matches when someone hosts. On the other hand, I'm WELL aware that this could make scrambling for rooms even more hectic, and that some people may not want to modify their GC names, so just looking to hear what you guys think.
I can affor trinity now! Not that I'm gonna buy it... Mr.Pink Floyd laser light show is more entertaining.
You can put "Tarc" (or whatever tag we have a consensus on) anywhere in your name, just as long as those four letters are in that order. For example, my GC currently reads "undead.exe [Tarc]", but I could also write "Tarcundead.exe", or even "unTARCdead.exe" and you'd still be able to find me since those four letters are grouped together in that order. TL/DR: Think of that search bar as a "Ctrl+F" sorta function. ----- Edit: Also, it's not case sensitive apparently.
In all honesty, I would prefer not to change my GC name (lots of games played with lots of people), but I agree with the notion that some kind of clarity would be helpful... I've actually been thinking about this. Does SW have an, "Add me" thread on TA? If not, it might be time for one, based on the recent growth or the SW "community." To clarify: Once I learned Superion's GC name, it was pretty hard to miss him. Likewise for Darthguy, to the point where I entered one of his randoms simply by chance because I saw his GC name among the matches, and could have played another random (Serpent) with him if I hadn't already been promised to Capricornman (I played one awesome game with someone I enjoy playing with and missed another awesome game with someone I enjoy playing with...life's rough.). For me, and I don't know how this is fixed, but it would be more helpful to have a list of GC names, passwords, and whether a person minds being barged in on... Well, that's my initial offering to the discussion. Let's bat this around a bit and see what we come up with! DBC
Yeah, I can understand that people may not want to change their GC for the sake of a single game, that's a fair point. With the extra thread thing, though, I'm not entirely sure if TouchArcade itself would be fine with it, because one of the rules is that the threads are for discussion of the game; we're diverging a fair bit onto socialising given the cooperative and social nature of using this thread as a community, but having a separate thread's also quite a good idea if it's allowed on here. I would have suggested using the Star Warfare wiki as an alternative for listing hosting players, passwords and rules, except wikis can be edited by anyone. So it'd be quite easy for any anonymous user to go in and claim that they're one of us and/or just mess up said details and cause some chaos. Well...I'll mull it over a bit and see if any other ideas come up, but great thinking DBC
Just to clarify? When I read this board I was Rank 1 with low level armor and weapons. The players I'm talking about are Rank 11-12 with Perseus and Laser Cannons... Surely you'd think they would have, idk, stumbled across Hyperclips by now, even without reading your posts? DBC
