I usually keep the same for both, but I guess for serpent, I could take along my FLOAT so I don't incur any extra and unnecessary damage.
Money conversion? Yikes. You only get like 30k per mithril at the best conversion rate. On a really really good day you might get 17 mithril. You have to save up for like a month to get the 500 mithril you need to convert at that rate. Considering that a full run of all bosses pulls in around 4 mil and a second run will pull in another 2 mil or so, this seems hardly worth it. You can net another 1 mil by doing the single player bosses twice too. I can pretty well net 7 million in a single day without much difficulty. When I was grinding for rank 12 and killing stuff all the time I'd net over 10mil in a single day. I'm pretty sure in the month that it takes to acquire 500 mithril and convert it from 15mil I could earn over 100 million easily just by playing daily. 300 mil if I went crazy. 15mil from mithril is nothing. I think it is far better used for buying weapons, armor, or hoarding in anticipation of future updates.

You misunderstand me. You've got it right in saying the mpconversion rate sucks, but I never really convert too often, only on times I need the emergency money. I too, net in large amounts of money from bosses, and it heavily outweighs the mithril conversion. And about the future updates, oh yeah, I got a stack of mithril saved for that occasion.

Use the SAM pack, it has a 25% experience bonus. Also use the perseus armor, it has a 10% experience bonus.
What emergency money? In my opinion it's never a good idea to convert mithril. If I need a small amount of money another run of mantis even if its your 20th time that day will net around 75k. Any large amounts can wait one more day. If you're talking about an ammo shortage...well I don't get that. I always maintain a reserve of over a million ammo. If by some cosmic happenstance I found myself both ammoless and penniless, I'd PVP or pull out the windblade and do a few single player missions just to get enough ammo to do mantis again. You only need like 20k max for a mantis clear.
