I figured out why the eight-way shooting feels so clunky. There's no in-between. In Contra you could only aim eight directions but you could also sweep between position to fill in the gaps. It's kind of silly to have a flame thrower or a laser that moves up and down but magically jumps from 90 degrees to 45 degrees without hitting anything in between. For what it's worth I do think this game is fun and pretty good overall. I don't know of any better games similar to this in the appstore so for a couple of bucks it's worth checking out if you like these type of run-and-gun action games. I do think the ads are annoying and the slow progress inhibits the fun factor somewhat. I ended up just hitting the watch ad button over and over while watching TV and got enough gems to unlock all the weapons at least. After that it was more fun.
Hey Guys, I have to apologize for leaving you hanging on the forum this weekend. We were attempting to figure out the problem with the in game pop-up and it took some time since it was the weekend. Let me be clear and tell you that you were not supposed to receive any ads for other company's games and we apologize for the intrusion into your gaming experience. The Top Girl and fashion ads you were seeing were only supposed to be visible in the Lite version of our other title, Bar Star, which is targeted towards 18-25 year old girls. Sorry about that! Thee was an integration problem with our cross promotional service provider and we were unable to make any changes until late yesterday. Admittedly, we thought we had fixed the problem before the weekend began but it appears some of you were still receiving ads erroneously. As of right now, only persons who do not have Destructopus installed on their device will receive a Destructopus pop-up 1x per day. We are also waiting for additional video ad campaigns to come online. It was also never intended that Star Marine would only show ads for a zynga game. Instead, the video ad service is supposed to show ads for Movies and video games that would be of more interest to you! We know that ads are not ideal but they have only been included as an extra means for players to earn gems without making the gameplay any easier and they do help us with some monetization of the title. We all know the lower price points of the app store can make it difficult to sustain a game development business. Thank you for taking the time to discuss the game and share your feedback with us. We are listening and we will continue to make improvements to Star Marine: Infinite Ammo. We would also really like to thank those of you who have taken the time to view and understand the game from all angles and perspectives. Thank you for participating in the forum and supporting our efforts.
Thank you Glitchsoft for the reply and clarification. I'm glad that you seem to know what the issues are. Hearing that the game does have issues and that you're going to fix them restores my confidence in your product. I have not deleted your game because I actually enjoyed the main game. I hope you can address the ad issues soon. Maybe use more iAds? I'd rather see those than pop-ups, and I do like the video ad option to get gems, that's a smart use of ads and I don't mind that. It was just the blatant pop-ups which you clearly have stated should NOT be there. One pop-up a day is complete non-issue, I can't wait to play your game again and get this conversation back on the game.
Couldn't have said it better myself. Glitchsoft, I will keep this game on my device and hold out for the update. When you DO implement the ad fix (which at the moment is going crazy during my time on the menus), I will support you further by gifting this game to friends. The core game here is great, the "ads for gems" is a reasonable trade off, and most importantly, a developer who listens and responds to his fanbase, and updates his games, always gets my support. Thanks for the reply, looking forward to the fixes.
Quazonk, Thank you for the hearty reply! We are hoping we ave the ad issue corrected already and that an update will not be required for an ad fix. Are you still seeing popups at various instances within the game? If so, could you please send me a PM describing your builds behaviour. This info would be greatly appreciated as our builds seem to be displaying only the intended ad for Destructopus. Thank you for the hand.
So wait a second, all that hearty debate and soapboxing, and now we're telling a dev it's ok to have ads in a paid game after all? Unbelievable.
@Glitchsoft So let me get this straight: If I have Destructopus installed (which I have, it's a fun game ), I won't see a single pop-up ad? I've been following this thread closely and it seems that the game itself is pretty awesome. Please check out some games from Miniclip.com, like Monster Island and Fragger. I think they have a perfectly balanced IAPs and ads for their own games. Anyway, to show you my support, I'm going to buy your game right now
Gabrien, are you even reading these posts? I said the "ads for gems" is a reasonable trade off, because they are ads you CHOOSE to see, by clicking an option to watch them. It's in lieu of IAP, and non-intrusive to the rest of the game. The ads that pop up during the rest of the game are the ones I take issue with, and they are being addressed. is right.
Ads for gems I can live with, since it's my choice and I can gain items for the game. Yes I'd prefer not to see any pop-ups of ads. But until that's in the cards (so to speak) I'm trying to be as positive as possible. I'd rather see iAds than pop-ups... But yes, after paying $2 I feel like I should not be AUTOMATICALLY shown any ads. Save that for the Lite version. Not the paid one.
That is exactly right. It appears we we able to fix the issue with our third party partner...if anyone is still receiving multiple ads please send us a PM with some added detail. All of our test devices are only displaying Destructopus info as intended. Please also note, in the future we will also use that popup to distribute additional news and game update info.
Just finished the 3rd level and here's my short feedback: 1. I love the graphics and music, I think you've nailed it (although it seems that the game is a little bit "laggy" sometimes (iPhone 4), even with zero enemies on the screen) 2. Even though I have Destructopus installed, a pop-up ad for it appeared in the middle of a boss fight. TWICE. 2 seconds apart. The game became unresponsive and I died. Really frustrating. 3. Controls still need a lot of work. In a game like this one, controls have to perfect, so you can't blame the game after you've died 5 times in a row. 4. My suggestion: Make an IAP to unlock the "full game". No ads at all, no more buying stimpacks and gems for real money. Change the gem system a little bit, like a player can get 3 gems per lever, if he does _______ (insert whatever). The price for unlocking should be around $5.
Yes, 60 minutes ago, or something like that. Right after I bought the game. I've closed the game completely and now it seems to be OK. We'll see if it happens again.
@Glitchsoft If you do something to the controls make it optional. I think the controls now are pretty spot on, meaning I haven't had any problems with them at all. This is pretty big for me considering you'll find me complaining about controls in a lot of other threads. I'm very particular when it comes to controls and these are pretty spot on. You've implemented the 8 way controls into the games (on iOS) excellently.
Seriously. im with goofy on this one. Please make it optional for the controls. Omg now im worried............
I disagree with number 4. At 2 bucks, you should already get a full game with no ads. Five dollars to unlock ads? No way... Controls seem spot-on to me, but I do see where the entire game runs slowly, but for a game that's usually really hard, it makes it easier to progress, maybe slightly too easy, though. Option for faster game play would be cool. Like the way when you jump you get a little 'bullet-time' sort of floating action. Ducking feels a little difficult. Music does seem glitchy, however, but it's not a deal-breaker at all. All-in-all, with the next update, this can be even better! Good game. Brings some old-school up to date for me.
Have you tried Bug Panic (from CAVE)? That game has the most perfect dual-stick controls, IMHO. Of course, you can't compare these two games, but you get my point. EDIT: Typos EDIT2: @bigrand1 No. 4 was just an idea. Here's a better one: Make the current version of the game freemium (ads + IAP + whatever the hell they want + only 5-6 levels) The premium version: No ads, no IAP (or hidden in the menus for those who want to cheat), all levels. Price: $5-7 FREE upgrade to premium version for all of us who already bought the game.
No offense, but this would never work. Why? For one it would kill sales. At a $1.99 price (low in app store terms) it helps sales a lot. People would be far more hesitant to buy a game for $5-$7 game anyways. Also there'd be no seamless transition and most of this wouldn't work at all for the devs. Not a good idea at all imo from a purely economical stand point. The way it is already is solid...
