Edit: In the end, I didnt get this one. Looks too short and John voice is annoying, wish it could be turned off without muting Ellen also.. oh well.
This looks pretty good. Will have to go on my wish list for now though as I only have $3.83 on my iTunes account and won't be getting an iTunes card for about a month.
This game screams polish. I love the pew pew here which is very similar to Star Fox, on rails and all. Graphics are outstanding and the frame rate is a constant 60 on my iPhone 5. The sounds are perfect and if you play with earphones on, you'll appreciate sounds coming from either side as you see them on screen like the sound of your ship's engines swinging left to right. I played with my PS3 controller (MiFi baby! Hold R shoulder to roll in a direction, square for torpedo, circle for swarm, X for guns) and this feels like a console game! Touch controls are solid and the buttons can be swapped to either side of the screen. Guns are your standard pew pew, torpedo as a heavy shot, and swarm missiles to take down multiple targets. The 3 weapons can be upgraded twice each via currency you earn in game (at a very generous rate if I might add, no IAP). Gunfire and the torpedo have to be lined up to hit their mark (with a tiny bit of auto aim) but the swarm missiles will home in on a certain number of bogeys in your field of vision. The environment is also a flying hazard so watch out for pillars and space junk! There's a story to follow with a decent amount of banter between your pilot and the ship's AI (not really paying attention to it though, sorry) with some choices to be made in some stages that lead to branching paths with linked achievements so you'll want to come back to see what else each level has. 3 levels in, I haven't encountered any boss yet. 10 levels all in all I believe. Recording the first 3 stages, it took me around 25 minutes without skipping any cutscenes. There's a single leaderboard for total credits earned while the achievements are worth 240 points. It's been a great smooth experience so far and with the amount of shine on this, it's an easy recommend, especially with no IAP and a fairly good price of $4. Video will be up a bit later given my slow internet at this time of the day but it should be up before going live in the US. Sanuku should come in with one before then. anyway.
I've spent good money on these types of games and have not enjoyed the gaming experience very much. However, that vid shows something pretty special. Waiting for some NZers to chime in with impressions...
Just done the first three levels. Good story hook so far, great gameplay, great music and great graphics. I'm really enjoying myself. There are far too few games like this these days, and this one is extremely well-polished for such a cheap indie title. Well worth the money. Although (early gameplay spoilers) Spoiler I do wish the Star Wars style end to level 2 lasted a little longer! I was really getting into that then it was all over.
