This is basically what's stopping most people from scamming Kickstarter backers. There's always a risk of lawsuits, even if Kickstarter themselves aren't involved. Star Command though? Nope. No fraud committed here. You can't purchase a movie then cry "fraud!" Because it wasn't long enough and you didn't like the ending. You made an investment, and before making it, you should have been sure to find out what an investment actually is.
Im actually not disagreeing with this, im saying you could sue but it wont get you anywhere as they will just declare backupcy of the company and get to keep all the money as its the company that has gone bankrupt not the individuals behind it. The only way to get to them would be to prove fraud which would be very difficult unless they publicly stated they committed fraud. They can pay themselves the whole amount as a wage and just claim it was for there time developing the project but it failed "good faith attempt". Whether its class action or not in reality there is nothing you can really do to get your money back. You have a lot less legal rites than a normal invester as you actually only donated. If its a donation expect nothing in return.
I agree Star command did not commit fraud and people should be happy they have produced anything at all because basically there was no legal obligation as long as they made a "good will attempt"
I saw a bunch of recent replies to this thread and thought it meant that the game was coming out. Nope, it's just a bunch of assholes being pissed because they feel this $3 game isn't going to blow them every morning and give them 4,000 hours of gameplay. OH NO it's only 3 hours for $3! Cry me a river. Enjoy the ####ing game when it comes out.
Actually the last few posts were answering this question by splendidham It was nothing todo about complaining the length of SC at all. In fact I think we were actually supporting the SC guys agreeing they had not committed fraud at all and people should be happy with what they actually do get.
This is exactly why I don't bother reading this thread anymore, its all just people stating how disappointed they are about how many features are missing or how short the game is (even though its not out yet) I'm just waiting for the TA app to tell me when it's out on the store.
The long lost Coombs brother. On topic: I'm so torn about this game. On one hand, I'm absolutely going to buy it in hopes it eventually becomes what it should've been. On the other hand, I know better to think these guys are talented or motivated enough to actually accomplish their initial goals. I'm not saying that as an insult - just the reality of the situation. I've set questionable goals for myself that I've had to compromise or give up on as well. I guess the difference is I've never collected outrageous sums of money to help me with them. I'm still going to buy whenever it eventually drops, and try to approach it as something other than Star Command, but there's no question Warballoon dropped the ball with this release in countless ways.
"Release trailer on Monday. Let's just say you won't be waiting long after that for the game." http://www.facebook.com/StarCommandGame/posts/497814500274487
You think they will push it out on a Tuesday so as to not compete with anyone? Did someone say they were going to be a feature game a few pages back? Or still wait till Thursday so they get maximum exposure?
I've seen Tuesday and Thursday as main release days but look what just happened; robot unicorn attack 2 and several over games got released on Wednesday. Strange, i guess its just a midweek deal
Link. Now. Checked their twitter, no sign of this. They were putting the release date out in the trailer, which i havent found yet either. The trailer was coming on monday.
Well they always said that the trailer would be out when they have a release date to announce. Seeing how the trailer drops today and that thursday is "iOS release day" it wasn't really much of a stretch to guess that the game will be out this Thursday. And it's been confirmed by PocketGamer: http://www.pocketgamer.co.uk/r/iPhone/Star+Command/news.asp?c=50430 Oh and: Launch Trailer Subscribe to the TouchArcade YouTube channel
