While I am still gonna get the game, I agree with your thoughts on that article. He came across as God's gift to mobile gaming. And to someone else's post, their PR handling has been a disaster.
For anyone interested in the article. I found it hard to track down. http://www.polygon.com/2013/3/20/4127328/star-command-kickstarter-release

To be fair, there have been some excellent games made by total pricks. If it's worth more than the money I'm paying, I still win. Edit: Just read it. Is that all that annoyed you? It seems like a fair statement to me. It's got nothing to do with whether or not there are other deep and complex, PC-like games on the store, it's just their reasoning behind getting the timeframe wrong. Rovio can probably whip up another AB game in six months easily.
All he said is it wasn't as easy to make as games like fruit ninja and angry birds. If he thinks the game is really great, then it probly is..since they've been working on it so long. I didn't find anything wrong with the article except the " barebones"part which he probly shouldn't have brought up. This game will still be pretty great if not amazing I think... I'll definetly be getting it no matter how long it takes.
The barebones statement is what got me. While not big, it just piles on top of the amount of delays, and of disaster that is that company. While I am fine with waiting, you need to weigh what you say/do. Hoping the game is a sucess, nothing makes people forget like sucess.
No he said he wasn't making a game like Angry Birds or Fruit Ninja, his point is that his game is taking much longer to complete because it is far more complex than these two silly games. He is comparing his work derisively to them and by foolishly naming these two he is attempting to perpetuate the myth that all 'games on your phone' are just cheap time sinks with no ambition or scope. This guy's like a modern relic. I know there's probably been a lot of great games made by bigots or sexists or rascists or worst of all, morons, but if they were, at least they were smart enough to keep their mouth shut about it. I can't in good conscience spend my money or time on something that someone I have no respect for has created. No matter how much it's like a cross between two great games(innovative!)
I'm still not reading it that way. Those two games really are simple in comparison, and making a similar game to those could feasibly be done in six months. He's admitting their mistake was underestimating the complexity of their game and doesn't mention other complex games because they have nothing to do with the point he's making, not because he's denying they exist. Battle of the Bulge took around 12 months to make, so you could translate his statement to something like "We thought we were making Angry Birds, then we realised we wanted to make Battle of the Bulge instead". Sounds to me like you're too easily offended and don't mind reading things the way you want to in order to make it happen.
I'm not very easily offended at all, and I don't like the fact you're trying to make it sound like I'm somehow bitter in my remarks. I'm simply calling it how I see it.
Great news! Looking forward to the release (whenever that is). I am curious about this bit... Did someone get a chance to somehow buy Star Command early then complain and demand a refund?
No he was just disappointed by War Ballon constant negligence of updates to their Kickstarter backers and point that money from PC version went into iOS development.Should have cut out that part of post , it's a "delicate" situation. Edit : they have mentioned numerous time 2.99 $ price point, so it's more-less fair to assume that it will be game launch price
That was quite an entertaining reddit, first I've actually spent any real time reading. The big thing I take from it though are the incredibly spiteful and ridiculous posts by justincoombs21. People could easily use his posts as a "How not to talk to people about your product" tool. Looking forward to his next online meltdown.
What they are doing here seems less ambitious and easier than Angry Birds. Of course, they probably also have a smaller team.
I guess that's a matter of opinion... I was always under the impression basic physics games were ridiculously easy with cocos2d, and as for the artwork, I could whip up something similar over a weekend.
As am I. You seem to have been offended by me too. Maybe you're not, but like you I just called it as I see it. Apologies if I'm reading your posts in the wrong tone.
Sounds like we are a green light. I'm gonna say release on the 11th and give you guys a healthy opportunity for a sh!tload of "I told you so's"
I don't think it's gonna be that soon. The kickstarter update also says: "We will be releasing character info, room info, etc in the coming weeks leading up to release, again, as soon as we know our date." So maybe we'll see it on the 18th
