Just looked at the screenshots on the blog, aaaaand...

I'm not trying to get killed by anyone who has been waiting and frothing at the mouth over SC, but I hope it doesn't come out until May... because I've got to finish Grad School, and I am DEFINITELY not going to get ANYTHING done for WEEKS after this puppy drops.:D

Blog update from one day ago (3/27/13)

    "ToDo Last Before Submission

    Our final to do list:

    • Do final credits in google doc
    • Write app description
    • Write app keywords
    • App screenshots (5 for iPad, 5 for iPhone)
    • Import, strip out names, possibly separate into categories
    • Main Menu - Fill out “OTHER INFO” button content
    • Add warballoon intro, steve co. intro [at release time]
    • Define each “checkpoint” we want (for dropoffs), install analytics for crashes
    • Turn off debug features: logging, excess analytics, debug app settings,
    • Unset all debug code flags (DEBUG, TESTING, etc)
    • Clean up project for all unused assets & files (semi-optional)

You’ll notice a distinct lack of bugs (not saying were going to ship a bug free product, but it should be really good)."

    From Starcommand's twitter feed:
"Release candidate is in beta testers hands as of 2:00am this morning."

See, and I didn't suffer at all utilizing just a small amount of patience! I'd even go as far as to say it was incredibly easy.

I will be excited only once they post that game has been submitted to Apple.Apart from that, I fear more unexpected last minute bug lists.

They seem to be happy with the amount of bugs they've killed, I'd expect the release to go ahead even if they find some more. If they're only minor they can wait until updates are ready.

Maybe they were stalling to squeeze out some GDC coverage all this time...

    Sr. Software engineer.
After watching it for over a year I have to agree. I will see it when it is released.

    Wow great contribution as usual.

They've already proven that they aren't trustworthy with releases so it would be much smarter to wait until Apple gives a date and not Warballoon.

Do you want me to call the whambulance or something? What is with these impatient little forum kiddies crying over game releases? This isn't the first time a game has been delayed and it won't be the last. I don't CARE who is trustworthy. I don't CARE if it takes another six months. I've been playing it cool over this release from the start and all I hear is ignorant, self-entitled baby gamers whining and crying.

I'm glad you think my contribution was great, 'cause I think yours was pathetic. This thread wasn't created for your pointless criticisms. I wish a mod would come in here and mop up the tears.

Doesn't take much to set you off does it?

As I keep an eye on most sources of info on SC I'm always suprised to see this thread moving along. I check in to see if their is something I've missed but its usually just the laments of sad panda's.
The game will be released when its released. Kickstarter has exposed a few realities of the industry. Many of those promising games that looked great but felt underdone were mostly pushed out by pissy investors. With Kickstarter the same pitfalls of game development remain the same but the financing has been (in part) handed to the gamers.
Sooo as gamers we need to have our eye on what counts. A quality game. These devs have made a few PR mistakes but its still looking great. Let's do what the corporate fatcats do not. Let the devs drop a game when it's awesome enough to be dropped :)

And incorrect assumptions are just as bad. I don't have to be angry to point stuff out. I'm actually having a really good day. This thread is still ridiculous.

Arguments in this thread tend to deviate between those who are annoyed that the game has taken so long to come to fruition and believe it non-existant and those who are capable of patiently waiting, if it means a better game.

I've been in the latter category for a while now but I think I've changed my mind about this game altogether after reading some articles with the Developer Justin Coombs. He did an interview/preview for Polygon and came across as the biggest prick I've ever read. I recommend everyone read it as well as a follow-up he did on Pocket Tactics.

He has some deluded sense of grandeur about how good the game is going to be, seemingly content that it has been much harder to develop than the only two games in the App Store he knows about, namely Angry Birds and Fruit Ninja. I hadn't even realised he was privy to the development of either game but that is not important - For he has been making a PC game on a mobile platform.

Hark! Did you hear that? A PC game on a mobile platform, who could ever have dreamed it possible?

It's like some bizarre archive interview from 2010, he seems to have absolutely no idea about the quality of games available for mobile devices these days. Yet having said that, he seems content that his first release be a 'barebones version' of a game. 'Like Valve did.' That's right buddy, you were right to draw similarity between one of the most important computer game developers ever and you.

(And Team Fortress 2 was not a barebones initial release.)

At this point I could conclude with a list of the best strategy games, or games of any genre for that matter for iOS devices, but I won't. Instead I'd like to make my decision known not to support this game based on the verbose folderol of its developers.

I'm not even going to download it when it inevitably goes free.

That is what most people have a problem with from what it seems like. If they need more time to make a game that's fine, but the devs have done a horrible job of handling PR for this project. They argue with people on Facebook and twitter about dumb things, and generally act like people have put unrealistic expectations on them.

Which is where the big issue is. They put all of those expectations out there first. They said things like, "We are holding off releasing in Dec. because it's Rovio and EA time". And then in Jan saying they are still bug testing. Why even say that then?

I will say this. It's easy to be patient when the developer actually installs confidence.(see Oceanhorn). But when they start up a separate Kickstarter for a PC version of the same game before finishing the first, that should be the first indication this will be a let down.

Am I the only one who suspects the recent announcements of near complete status was just seed for a carefully orchestrated April Fool's joke that will come to fruition later today?!?

Do mind that we still need to break 1000 posts mark in this thread before game releases ; Easy job if you ask me
