I remember when I was excited for this game. More excited than any other iOS title. That was almost 2 years ago!! Devs are 100% doing themselves a disservice by dragging this out. They will be blasted if there are any problems upon release, or if the game just doesn't live up to expectations. (which doesn't really seem possible at this point) That being said, will be a hour 1 purchase for me.
To be honest I blame kickstarter. Most people just don't understand how long game development can be dragged out, and it's not a case of the devs being lazy at all. Getting people interested right at the beginning of the project will inevitably lead to long waits and people don't like it when something they're waiting on has taken long enough to be forgotten by them.
Quotes by developers: October......November....not December because we don't want to have to compete with EA,zynga and Rovio (none had a game out I believe) but defentinly January..... I rest my case
I don't think that is the case. I've supported a few Kickstarters and I'm aware there is a wait time. As Death Toll pointed out the issue is the developers keep telling us it will be out by such and such date and then missing that deadline. And not by a little but by a lot. AND they keep giving us dates they can't seem to meet. It makes people wonder why that is and if it might be a red flag that something is breaking down within the company. The developers really should have just stayed mum about any dates until they knew for sure when it would be available (perhaps when submitted to Apple) and reminded us about it. Instead they have created a lot of hype and unfortuneately hype expectations usually can't be met.
EA release at least one game every week between the app store companies that they bought out, heck the chillingo brand EA arm releases a huge ammount per month. For this game to not compete with EA, it will basically never get released at all because every week is something new for them.
Forgot about chillingo...plus saying all the bug fixes it needs hell that's what the App Store is a place to have fixes done plus added stuff but still its better to have a game (3 years in the making) then none
At least it's coming. Car Jack Streets 2 was on the way before the dev totally lied and stopped all correspondence when he promised further news.
Creating a lot of hype is essential for any kickstarter project or game in general. The mistake was mentioning dates, but even then it's not exactly a contract signed in blood. The great thing about being an indie dev is making your own deadlines, and if you need the extra time to perfect a product, you can have it. Being pressured into a release would be a terrible idea, so while I agree that perhaps they made a date sound more certain than it really is, I don't think it's the kind of huge mistake that warrants so much criticism. At the end of the day the customers are getting the game they backed, and it'll be better after having had the extra time for polish.
I hope you're right. I really do, as I love the idea of this game and want it to be good. I also loved the idea of Aliens CM which was a game 6 years in the making. It was delayed many times over that period, unfortunately it wasn't to make the game better. There was a lack of focus and direction. Too much indecision on what they wanted to make. They restarted often and in some cases whole levels were scrapped. Duke Nukem had a similar problem. I'm not against delays out of principle, but remember this was a game that was announced for release in the fall of 2011. Then Christmas of that same year. Polish is one thing but how can your estimate be so off that a year of extra time isn't enough? Sometimes a game is delayed to really add the finishing touches and polish that results in something that is a pleasure to play. Other times a game us delayed due to poor time and resource management and a lack of consistent focus and direction. I worry it's the latter in this case. I want to be wrong but it's what my gut is telling me.
No, the game is a vaporware, it will never come out, they publish some screenshot just for take money in multiple kickstart then delayed it to the end of time, because it not exist at all.
Last report was that they have zero errors in current game built ( final ? ) version.Release date - I suspect even God doesn't know that... Edit: they should rename it to Star Command Forever
What they mean by this is that December is when EA runs massive sales and their games tend to dominate the AppStore. Indie devs are generally wise to avoid that release window unless they have some decent visibility of their own (good buzz, advertising spend, AppStore featuring, etc.)
