A spatial management game and a little dungeon crawler in the sense that they occur randomly battles and events.
Similar... but different I think if you enjoyed FTL you will also enjoy Star Command. The game might look slow paced in the videos, but it is definitely not (when in battle). You can pause it, but not to queue up moves like in XCOM or FTL, so it can get quite frantic at times and keeping a level head under pressure is critical. Which is a lot of fun
Does combat have strategy or tactics, like overwatch or line of sight? Or do you just direct crew members where to go? I know this game is open world, but is it linear? How different can multiple playthroughs be? Any replay value? New Game Plus?
I haven't got far enough into it to comment on replay value or new game plus. I know I'll be playing through more than once for sure, your mileage may vary. There is no overwatch (unnecessary anyway since the game plays out in real-time), but there is line of sight (as in, your crew members won't shoot through each other or walls). They also have a radius of effect for their actions which displays when you tap on them. The game starts out linear until the 4th or 5th mission when you're given a whole heap of areas to explore. That's where I'm up to now. Edit: There are dialogue options before that 4th/5th mission which can have different outcomes too.
Ok so it's not out in UK store search yet if I click the universal app link in the TA post it gives me a £1.99 option... Will that be the EU version that just hasn't officially been released yet?
Line of sight and radius are good. So is there any strategy like flanking or sneaking up on enemies? Can you upgrade or specialize crew members with unique abilities, weapons, etc.? (I've been playing a lot of Hunters 2 lately)
Sneaking up behind enemies sounds like an good plan! I'll try it... I keep a medic with my soldier guys when I get boarded at least. There are other tactics I have found to be effective but I won't spoil it for you Your crew upgrade themselves by specialising on their role automatically. I assume that means they just get better at shooting, healing and repairing, maybe other bonuses I don't know. Some room upgrades will improve your crew's performance too. When you tap on your crewman, you can see their stats. There is also a button labelled "Contraband" and says "Coming soon" when you tap on it. So maybe the devs plan to flesh out crew upgrades a bit more with a future update.
If there's line of sight, then I guess flanking and ambushes should work (hide in rooms as enemies go past) Beside hull beaches, any other random events during battles? Are events like hull breaches even random or are they scripted? Do enemies just stand and shoot or do they use tactics (or at least move around)? And finally, so this game is just a series of battles? Any hubs, side missions, exploration, puzzles? Can you interact with your crew? Any systems like morale or trust?
To those playing it already, is there cloud sync? I want to play at work tomorrow and pick it up where I left off on my ipad at home.
All the enemies I've encountered have behaved uniquely depending on their species. Different tactics are needed for each! So far it has been a series of battles, not that I mind. I'm still not very far into it, so we'll see. The battles are the best part anyway. Firing your ship's weapons are a quick mini-game, different for each gun. Adds to the pressure under battle. The game pauses while you do it, but only takes maybe ten seconds or less. You can name your crew and customise your Captain. That's about it for interaction I think. No morale/trust system, personally I don't see the need for it. I'm the Captain of this boat!
Hull breaches: I far as I can tell they are random, the odds of one occurring depends on the strength of your shields/hull and the type and strength of the weapon the enemy is firing, and where the impact of the shot lands on your ship. I think.
Man, this is too much fun. It might end a little too soon, but roll on updates! P.S. Stunning to look at too, and I'm hella strict when it comes to iOS visuals.
This game doesn't have anything to do with Kairosoft games. I think it was initially billed to be Stat Trek meets Kairosoft...but that's not the case anymore.
I played Game Dev Story, didn't think it was all that deep. Fun, but not deep. Are their other ones deeper? Star Command is better than GDS in my opinion.
