Not that I think devs should have to release free content, but you had a totally different experience of PC than I did. Companies like idsoftware, Epic and Valve were built on providing free post release content, maps, game modes and so on. Again I'm not saying this is how it should be, I just find your recollection of PC gaming odd, it's were the expectation started.
I agree with your reasoning in this. People expect so much out of games that cost 3 dollars... I don't understand how people could expect anything from 3 dollars like free dlc and stuff. I think dlcs work great for a game, and if its popular enough gives extra incentive for the devs. And it'll be just like 30 dollar pc games.
Fair enough point (although, it could have been slightly less snarky). I guess when I think of IAP, I automatically think of greedy devs. I hadn't considered the new content to be more DLC than IAP. Strange to say, but the two acronyms have a huge difference in connotation to me. I'm still upset about the lack of bug fix, however. I LIKE the game. I just wish I could play it.
Just for info. Devs Facebook page shows that version 1.01 was submitted with quite a bit of fixes and other items. http://www.facebook.com/StarCommandGame/posts/503164613072809 .
Rovio spoiled us with $0.99 apps and continuous updates with new content for free for ages now. But also back in the old days games were released complete and new content was an afterthought rather than a cut back on the plans for a game so they could slowly trickle the content out later for extra charge. Buying an extra pack for duke nukem was like getting a whole new game not some minor ads on. The 360 changed all of that with the micro transaction model. It's a model for game design that I personally don't like since I'm old enough to remember buying games that didn't need bug fixes and were complete at launch.
I'm stuck on the level where you have to fight that bird ship (Preying Bird?) and I can't get thru, I've been stuck for about a week. Done everything I possibly could, just can't get through!! Tips anyone?
We probably played different genres. I stuck to strategy/sim games like Civ, SimCity, XCOM, MOO, Ultima, etc.
Don't know if this was answered already but I got to Phobos and...nothing happens. Is this a bug? Or am I supposed to do something else first?
Did the game tell you to go there? This is a linear game, so follow the sequence. No surprises and no side quests...
Yup, looks like I had to close the game completely and try again before the scripted dialogue would appear.
After seeing what the update includes, I might grab it when it goes live. Are the new ships worth replayabilities?

When all else fails, just bunch up all your guys in your weapons room and hide there. The enemy cannot destroy your ship. You just have to keep your captain alive as your ship's weapons blast them to smithereens.
Yeah well my problem is that my weapons keep on getting destroyed and I'm pretty sure you can't fix them, right?
Here is what you need in your weapons room. Spoiler Captain: tucked in the back for his protection. 2 x Blue shirts for healing. One nearer the captain, in case a shot on your ship hits him, and one on the other side of the room. Blue shirts are built by assigning your crew to the medical room. They remain blue shirts even if you move them to the weapons room. Just don't click the circle assign button to send them to the weapons room, but click on the blue shirt and click on an empty space in the weapons room. 1-2 Yellow shirts to repair damage done to your weapons. Keep them on both sides of the room so that a shot on your ship won't take them out together. Yellow shirts are built by assigning your crew to the engine room... 5-8 red shirts, depending on how many your ship can support, to repel invaders, although they won't be needed if you already have a gaping hole right outside your weapons room. The first shot from the enemy's vessel will lower your shields and any enemy that heads towards your weapons room will be sucked right out into vacuum.
Awesome man!! That is a fantastic strategy!! I look forward to continuing the game. The help is very much appreciated.
I finished medium (2nd time) the other day and want to know if they're ever going to add more missions or if it will always just be deajavu over again. I wish their update included some more variety in the missions. Not sure if anyone in their right mind will keep playing it over again more than 2-3x they're all just the same objectives anyways.
