That is the kind of enthusiasm and forward planning I would expect from my PR guy, 3 years in advance? That's dedication.
First, give me a break! i mentioned in my impressions that i was relatively early on, and even provided a reference mark to show exactly where i am to anyone familiar with the game. guess I'll have to see how it goes on the later levels. That said, that doesn't change the fact I am enjoying the hell out of this game right now, and honestly in already feel like I gt my monies worth. Of course, that is just my opinion, which is all I ever claim my impressions to be.
There are PR guys that are contracted by various devs to push their games that have been on here for years. I'm not saying he is one, just saying they are out there for hire by any dev. My guess is a good 1/2 of the members here or more are in the industry.
I used to own an iPhone gaming website. I ran the site and wrote reviews, as well as managed a few interns and edited their reviews. I gave that up almost 2 years go, haven been "in the industry" since.
I didn't say you were wrong or your opinion was invalid, just saying what someone else could see by your post. Chill. I can see your perspective and how you could have fun with this. My suggestion though is not to read about the game though till you finish it because the exploit or something else will catch your eye and ruin a lot of the potential fun and honestly I'd like you to continue to enjoy the game.
Lol The "gimme a break!" Was not necessarily directed at you, I get you were explaining. Don't worry I have no interest in using any exploits or whatever. That's not any fun I agree.
For those having issues with slowdown, the devs are looking at it per their forums. One suggestion is to make sure you have nobody in the engine room... Something about pathing and the ai and upgrades, blah blah blah. Anyway I took the two dudes out of my engine room and had them stand outside, slowness went away. Put them back in, it comes back... So it sounds like maybe they're on to something. Luckily I don't believe occupying the engine room actually serves a purpose...
Do you really think that people care enough about TA forums to pay people to post fake stuff here? Seriously?
I actually kept one female engineer near the engine room but not in it, and during a heated battle (think it was the Avarians) there was a hull breach at the aft end of the ship.. she was pulled outside but an after image of her body persisted, trailing behind the ship! And she was still listed as alive (saw the green bar floating over the engine.) Spooky! It was like a ghost story I heard of two sailors at sea whose faces kept following the ship after they were buried.. Anyway, I cared for my crew and had goldshirts fastidiously repair every corner of the ship.. this became its own reward because all the tokens I wasn't using to replace dead crew were going to upgrades of the shield rooms, weapon rooms, etc. The healing bay was especially cool because it was super effective at keeping redshirts healthy while invaders kept shooting them. Redshirts got healed, the baddies didn't. In a related vein, I assigned two ladies to the shield center and when they weren't making shield tokens they were the center of the death ball; the best part is if they stood next to each other, they'd heal each other so as long as you made sure neither got hurt to extremes you'd always have healers. Lastly I always kept as big a buffer as the game would allow- two tokens for shield room and plasma torpedo room, that way I could get my first licks in unperturbed with the plasmas while making sure the shields were always fully charged so for at least the first few turns nobody could beam aboard invasion parties. VVV Yesh I wish somebody was paying me, heh.
If they have something good to say about SC they must be being paid! Just kidding. I beat the game. It was worth my time. I'll leave value/price talk for people who care more about $3 than I do. I had a little slow down a few times. Nothing unbearable. Shut the app down in multi-tasking helped for me. Was it amazing? No. Was it good? For sure. If I have any advice for people going into this game it would be not to expect it to be a non linear, space exploration game with diplomatic options and trade missions. It is my favourite RTS game on the AppStore. A RTS is all it is. It has a rather limited upgrading system for ship functions. You have to manage your ship's weapons, shields, dodging and repel attacks from troops beaming onto your ship. That's it, that's all. It's got good graphics, sound, some charm. Overall, I like it. Edit: as a side note to anyone having issues controlling/selecting characters, the zoom came in really handy for me. For fine maneuvers and selecting units that were tightly grouped I'd zoom way in. As a rule I'd keep zoomed back far enough to see where I was going to take impacts or have people beam aboard.
I've been assuming that you only get the engine room upgrade bonuses active if there is an engineer assigned to that room. Maybe they don't have to actually be IN the room tho. I'm not that far in, but I haven't noticed any lag whatsoever on an ipod 5th Gen.
I was borked by post about shields and token problems when completing game and starting a new one, so I verified them. Correct me if I'm wrong, but even after upgrading shield booster room and having all other shield related upgrades, they usually deplete in one shot from bigger enemy ships ( and that is most enemy ships in game) .Having shield threshold upgrade is pointless as shields deplete so fast that using only boosters solves this ( until next shot ).Not sure if they can't teleport while shield are on, but I did notice a longer periods with no teleports with continually boosting shields and dodging shots until tokens ran out. Speaking about tokens, more than positive you get same ones you had when finishing previous game.So if you used all tokens to replace crew after battles, tough luck , you can't build anything. All comes back ironically to using famous strategy of manning only the weapon rooms with whole crew not to loose anyone and be able to start new game normal. I am also baffled why can't we have more crewmembers on medium size ships, for them there should be 2 new crewmembers avaliable to recruit for every new room, not 1 as for small ship + not counting those you get as a bonus later on.At least make 2 new crewmembers avaliable for larger rooms. Grenades are useful only if you want to see more fire on your ship, their damage is too low and blast radius too high. But at least you can make controlled hull breaches with them.Sentry robots must either loose their timer or be able to walk around, they are even more ridiculous than grenades.
Game Impressions I have nobody in the engine room. I did not have slowdown until I passed the 1 hour mark in the game. Crashed to desktop right at the last mission. One of my weapon rooms was hit and unable to fire, so I bulldozed it, Star Command showed the usual unbuilt room design there, then crashed. Replayed to the end. The whole game seemed to revolve around the silly Warioware type of timing minigames to fire my guns. Deleting...
I hired all females.. Put them into engine rooms no lags.. Maybe the dudes are up to no good in the room
According to : http://www.reddit.com/r/gamedev/comments/1dne6b/we_are_the_creators_of_star_command_for_mobile/c9rzb91 They do not have a PR rep. Also There's only 3 guys doing this game : http://www.reddit.com/r/gamedev/comments/1dne6b/we_are_the_creators_of_star_command_for_mobile/c9rzfjt http://www.reddit.com/r/gamedev/comments/1dne6b/we_are_the_creators_of_star_command_for_mobile/c9s1mqt So they literally do not have the time going around various websites forums signing up as fake users to post fake reviews. You should be more open to when people have a different opinion then you.
Nice little game. Haven't finished it yet, taking my time, but a bit on the short side. A few bugs here and there (for example, the zombies had an animation bug), but nothing too important. I hope they keep expanding it, but even if they don't, still worth the money (as you can guess, I wasn't a backer, I don't think Kickstarter is any good for iOS games. PC games are a different story).
All they would really need to do is fix the following: 1.) Destructible ship, to prevent the lame red room exploits 2.) Tap-and-hold mass-selection control. This helps if you need to send a team of reds to intercept enemies who have boarded your ship. 3.) Possible performance improvements? I've read tons of posts where people are encountering slowdowns on the iPhone 4S, iPad 2, and iPad 3. I've played the game for around 8+ hours total and haven't encountered any performance issues on my 32GB iPT5 running 6.1. This is with WiFi on or off, no other background apps running except Pocket Planes, Dungeon Plunder, and sometimes Block Fortress.
