I beat it in 2:02, and I spent a good portion of the first battle not understanding how to fire my weapons. I think the game does a poor job of teaching you how to play, so it's all about how quickly you pick up on that. I was really protective of my crew, so almost nobody died until late in the game, which let me upgrade my rooms a lot. That probably helped.

I don't really mind that the battles are kind of repetitive and awkward, at least not compared to the story being so thin and linear. I thought we were getting something with a more well-developed universe than this, but the game's just weak all around.

Sure, it's not a AAA title and I don't expect one, but considering that early on this was being compared to Kairosoft titles (and those certainly aren't AAA budget games) this is a huge disappointment.

If you have a PC, Linux or Mac, get FTL. It's EVERYTHING this game wants to be and isn't. It's also pretty tough, the difference being it encourages you to accept your fate and start again with a new, randomised starmap.

It's so, so, sooo much better at putting you in the role of starship commander, it's not even funny.

I'd happily pay upfront for a good game, full stop. Very happy this is a game that eschews the hateful expendable currency IAP model. Shame it's a bit crap though.

I've given ample reasons why I think this is a lousy attempt to put the player in command of a starship. In fact most people that have posted negative comments have said why they're posting such comments.

Just an idea, if you see a lot of people saying they dislike it, maybe go find their very first post in the thread to see if that explains what they don't like about it?

I don't agree that it's crap, but I will say it could be better. I would like it a lot more if there was some actual exploration involved instead of a battle everywhere you travel. That's how it's been, so far, anyway.

That's all there is to the game. Unless you count a few dialogue-only encounters.

I also wish there was more variety to the battles. The zombie fight near the beginning was nifty, but after that it's really samey for the most part. Sometimes you get a few handicaps or there's a dialogue option that can help you, but yeah.

Hell, if the game is going to be all battles, that'd be fine if they were actually good...

I've seen how a small starship command game that's mostly about battles should be made. It's called FTL and it's so, so much better than this in every single way, so it's hard for me to see SC as anything other than a bit crap, really.

Just my opinion though. It's the right opinion, of course, but just an opinion all the same...

    ;)

    Game sucks

Gameplay was fun for about 1 hour then it really started to suck

How did this generate more hype than a vastly superior FTL i have no idea.

It fails in so many ways
    Combat is repititve and boring
Crew can only perform ONE function. Really??? Did we run out of phasers??
Crew is not customisable, no armor, no weapons nothing
All you can do is change their single skill
    *Spoiler Alert*

There are sentry drones and they just die. Their life decays and they die. Like WTF?

Why do ammo tokens and room tokens share the same very limited token box
Why does ammo not generate itself?
Why does the crew stand around while ammo does not generate itself
Why are the minigames so annoying

    Ad infinitum.
I agree with the guy above.. go get FTL its VASTLY VASTLY superior

And Btw i was so incensed with this game i signed up to this forum just so i could bitch about it.

Finally, i think i like this game. I didn't back the KS, and i didn't hope anything about this game. I was just curious about it, and i found out a sort of FTL playable on Iphone. That's enough for me ^^'

I facepalm every time I see posts like " crew can do only one job" , " why can't all crewmembers shoot " or " why don't tokens auto generate" .
What would be a point of all members having weapon ? To make game easy ? Seriosly , if you want to play do some thinking, micromanage and devise strategy that works, protecting engineers and science officers and having them all work like a more-less coherent group is what makes game unique and fun.Generating tokens is couple seconds of clicking, you just have to REMEMBER to do that every time you use them.
I haven't played FTL so I can compare both games, but can you PLEASE STOP posting about it here, this is iOS games forums, not PC games one.Once FTL comes (if) to iOS I will be more than glad to read all comparisons around here.

I have to disagree with the need for strategy in this game. All battles can be won by sticking everyone in gun room of choice and checking back every 2 minutes or so it takes to recharge. You dont even need to repair after. Fun this is not.

And comparisons to FTL are completely valid because the idea behind both games is almost completely the same with vastly different execution of course. In fact star command has the advantage of being on a touch screen based platform that should mesh seamlessly with gameplay of this nature, but it falls rather short.

I've played FTL. Love it. I like SC as well. You don't like this. You've been posting about how you don't like it for days. Move on man.

FTL is premium. SC has a certain charm. I see both sides. Don't like it then chill out. FTL IS BETTER!!! BUT it's not available on ios. This game can be fun. You didnt like it. Please man. relax and move on

Excuse me. I'll have you know that my opinion is the correct one, and that it's been confirmed and granted official status by an independent adjudicator.

    ...me. I'm independent.

Thank you for saying this. Star Command is a great game that requires thinking. Could it be better? Well what game is perfect? This is a great title and as long as the dev continues to support it with expansions and updates it has all the makings to be one of the best ios titles out there.

2 hours is very short for an iOS game - my iPad is full of games that take much longer than 2 hours to complete. Kairosoft games seem the most similar example to this game - they're much longer.

2 hours of quality gameplay wouldn't be bad for an IOS game, but you spend most of the time waiting for recharge timers which is pretty annoying since battle strategy is fairly static.

Well this isn't a tough one to figure out...

Fine, let's compare it directly to the vast majority of iOS games! Oh look, it's not short
