Major Bug Found a Major Bug in the beginning of the game That forces me to reload an earlier save or start over. Once I traveled to the Tarsus sytem I cant travel to any other planets in that system. The Galaxy map only shows the Tarsus system but once I click it I get Earth and al the other SOL system planets.
Also, it's the talk of 'oh stick around the game will improve with updates', and 'the game would be fantastic with some additional features', etc. That annoys me. I don't hate the game, it has some good features, but I did finish it in just over 3 hours and have no desire to replay it unfortunately. I buy a game with the notion that it is already 'very good' (especially one in development for 2 years non-stop...but admittedly that's my own fault), and any updates/extra stuff added later on is just a sweet bonus. Apologies! /rant over
Never mind, by closing and restarting the app it was fixed. And luckely it autosaves when reaching a new system.
lol @ people that get so defensive over negative feedback and criticism. It's almost like people actually have different opinions. Stop whining.
Agree with the general sentiment that the game is disappointing, though I'll probably play it anyway. Part of the problem is probably the hype around it. The game has a lot of good qualities, but if I could sum up my complaints in two words, I'd say "confusing" and "slow". Combat is slow and confusing (although this might change later?) Weapons take too long to charge, and I don't understand the laser 'mini-game' at all. To be fair, I think mini-games are a poor excuse for gameplay in general. The ammo mechanic for most of the rooms is not well explained. Took me several battles before I figured out how to use those rooms (what's an ammo token?) Difficulty curve is a little steep in the first 3 levels, and not in a good way. It's hard in an "I don't understand the mechanics" kind of way. I realize that discovery/exploration of mechanics is/can be better than a tutorial, but I found it frustrating in this case. Moving characters around the ship feels a little clunky, on an iPad (no idea how it could possible work on phone) If my initial experience in the first 3 levels was any indication, we definitely need a 'skip to the battle' feature for the cutscenes/dialogue. I realize this sounds negative, but I do like the game overall. It's obviously well-made, and there's a lot of care/attention to detail. There will be tons of comparisons to FTL, and honestly, they ARE pretty similar in theme/gameplay. I do prefer the randomized nature of FTL to the campaign based model of Star Command, but that's mainly personal preference. Overall, the battles in FTL are (IMO) faster based, and the mechanics are easier to understand.
Ya, looking at this thread and the average user score you'd think this game was meh at best. I for one am thoroughly enjoying this game.while this game might be worse then FTL, (which I haven't played), we don't have that freaking game on iOS. We do have Star Command though, and for the price of $3 or maybe eventually $5 this game is pretty darn COOL. I love the art, I love the controls, I love the mini games, I don't know what people expected, but I'm digging this game. Had the game crash one time but not like that's an uncommon thing. I'm sure they'll fix the little bugs.
This. Great game but the balance seems off. Maybe I just really suck but the 2nd mission was overwhelming. Trying to move the crew to exact locations was very frustrating.
I don't think anyone's getting defensive about it. Most of the responses to negative posts are done in an attempt to turn useless comments into constructive ones. Disagreement and debate is absolutely fine, the only people whining are the ones who are providing the so-called "negative feedback" because they feel cheated and can't think of a better way to express their disappointment.
I bought it because I like to support the non-IAP payment model where I can, but this game is just not doing anything for me. If this is two years of development it's time to find a new day job.
Many people play games for the standard difficulty and hope for a lengthy game. I think it's rare many people play the same game through multiple difficulties, unless the game is mega casual, or they absolutely love it.
I don't know why everyone is finding the gameplay confusing. I find it quite straight forward and easy. Sure, it's challenging, but since when should a game be a cake walk to make it good? You just need to strategize better. I do find the weapons mini-games annoying though. They take away from the tension of managing the crew. Also, it would be nice if your units could just keep making ammo tokens without you having to instruct them manually each time. Yeah, and skipping to battle and also being able to skip the whole "you vs enemy" scenes at the start of battle would be nice too. Overall I'm enjoying the game and looking forward to seeing the contraband stuff that your characters have.
Agreed, mostly. This is game about management and strategy: manage, and strategize. I'm having fun with the game. The thing with ammo token is annoying, but I would be able to handle it if we could have more than 2 tokens at a time. Poor development choice. Also: people complaining about crew members and guns, here's my technique: make sure both weapons have 2 crew members assigned to them. Also ensure you have two healers. Before going into battle, position two of the crew members from the weapons rooms at opposite ends of the ship, so that you have a good chance of being able to head off invasions - you won't know where they'll teleport in, so make sure that you have an equal chance of reaching most of the ship. I usually position my healers directly behind my guys with the guns, so that the gunners take fire and shoot back, while the healers are safe and keep the gunners going. I've been able to handle most situations by handling things that way. You need to make sure to keep two of the red shirts in the weapons room, however.
Assign crew members to either the engine room or the other room (they're both brown/yellow colored rooms, I forget the name) once assigned, they'll become engineers, and if you tell them to go to where fires/problems are, they'll repair them. The more repairs they do, the more they level up and get better and faster at repairing. For that reason, you'll usually want to dedicate those crew members to their tasks. Also - great post title. "Help Fires" reminds me of the 911 call I made when I was 9 and got into the matches. Good times.
Pretty disappointed with this game, sure it's fun but could be so much more. I'll probly just wait till its updated a few times to play it again. Hard? No. Lengthy? No. Deep? No. Once you find a tactic that works that's about it till the end. They did a good job hiding the time management aspect though, ill give them that. Definitely underwhelming overall and this is from someone not hyped before the release, though I was looking forward to the game.
