I pretty much agree with you to a degree. Mainly because all of those features don't make the game less challenging, they just make the game more streamlined. So you are wasting most of your time on actual strategy and trying to properly manage your way through an event rather than spending too much time wrestling with implementing your commands. I don't want to think they made things cumbersome on purpose, but probably just cumbersome due to a lack of experience. I'm all for games with a steadily increasing challenge. This game sounds like it just needs more time in the cooker to get everything fine tuned. Sort of like a first person turn based rpg where there's no auto map feature. Yes that may make the game seem easier but it makes more sense than pulling out a pad and pencil and trying to track stuff as you go or rely purely on memory where something was 20 maps ago that you can now go back and open. EDIT: Weaver1497, thanks for the game impressions and feedback. I think the way you describe the game makes a lot of sense. It'll be interesting what people think of it after their third or fourth play through. Do more locations/missions open up on each subsequent play or is it roughly the same events in a loop.
"A bit" smarter, sure. I wasn't disagreeing with every point, there's room for improvement. I just don't think we need too much automation. The entire point is that the player is in control of the ship and its crew, it's the core concept of the game and that's what provides the challenge.
So weird to wait that long and finish the game in a day... But the ride was good if you take it for what it is rather than what it could have been. I just want more diplomacy/research a la FTL and the game could open up a lot of possibilities! Excited to see how post launch support will be handled
Sadly it's like. 3-4 hour game.. I beat it last night, currently going through my second time, which is much tougher I might add. BUT I have 95% crew survival rating, I found lotta interesting things in their scripting.. Kinda like how to avoid boarders all together, and EZ weapon firing. Thus far the game is good, but a tad rushed on how you meet the rest of the varying species. Beyond that, the Grol seem to be the strongest opponent I've come across, damn their splitting ability and 8k shielding.
Controls are messed up. When i try to select a room almost everytime I get a crew member selected. The idea with mini games for weapons is getting more annoying every new battle. Come on, how long can you enjoy tapping three dots? The idea of weapon tokens is annoying too. There is no decent manual. The difficulty curve is to for me. I even can't save green princess. This game can transform into something if there will be turn based combat, not this mess. God I really hope FTL will be ported to ios soon.
Yeah this is a huge disappointment, mainly because of the arbitrarily frustrating 'send everyone to a red room to give them a gun' requirement. Don't get it. Why doesn't everyone on this ship have a weapon? There's only a few of them, it's not like there's capacity for a fleet of security like on a Star Trek ship or something Everyone on Serenity could handle a gun. Pretty much... Also I wasted sooo many shots trying to work out the weapon firing system. I've lost my first game and didn't work out how to fire the plasma cannon at all. I can see the appeal, and it's the sort of game I should be loving. But having to march people over to a weapon room every time there's a relentless onslaught of invaders? Ruins my enjoyment pretty much A few bugs as well, I spotted the one where a room says it's empty even when it isn't. I know this was never going to be FTL, and was never meant to be FTL, but it's sure made me realise even more just how awesome FTL is.
Despite a couple of crashes, this game is absolutely one of the most fun I've played on iOS. I play on an iPad mini, so I'm sure that helps with control (tapping the right thing). This could be the first game I ever play at a higher difficulty level after beating it. Keep it up!!!
Can characters use weapons in the hallways? If I try to send characters to red rooms to get guns it says the room is full. How is this supposed to work? I've gotten through a few missions but its more a matter of figuring out how the game works. Not sure I'm having, you know, fun really.
Only red people can shoot, so its a bit limited, which is the most annoying thing about this game, apparently you can only shoot if you wear red t-shirts... if you are an engineer or a medic, nope, you can only watch...
All this negativity is depressing me. This game looks right up my alley, but I'm not sure I want to drop the cash when there is so much I want to by without havi g to worry about dissapointment. What's going on here? The TA review seemed ok...
Get it and stop reading the forums. If you come in not expecting the game to be anything other than what it is, you will likely enjoy it. If you are expecting it to be a different game or to do exactly what you want in every situation, you will naturally be disappointed.
Before stepping into this thread, I didn't have any issues with the game. I still don't, really. Just things that could be done better. As it is, the only thing really keeping me from progressing is the speed slowdown I'm experiencing in later levels. Possibly from all the fire and space vacuums and crew members running around like The Living Torch. Regardless, I think all the negativity in this thread is unnecessary. This is what happens when people over-hype a game and then when they get it, they choose to highlight every single flaw and issue. Certain things could be improved or done better, but for me they are hardly deal breakers. Here's a word of advice: Try the game yourself.
There is way too much negativity around here. I like it when they don't tutorial the hell out of a game and just let me explore the mechanics. Yes, it is hard but still most fun I had in a long time playing games. Not just iOS. I'm sure they're going to add stuff to make it even better.
Part of me feels like this game has been represented in the wrong way. Its audience isn't your regular iOS customer at all, yet with so much hype and publicity behind it, it's being highlighted as much a casual game would be. Liking Clash of Clans and Pixel People does not mean this is the right game for you, as pretty and colourful as it may appear.
I finally had a chance to read this whole thread and before reaching the end I had facepalmed my nose all the way through the back of my head. I have such an urge to reply, but I don't even know where to start. So many people with ridiculous notions here. Oh well, game is solid btw, easily recommended at 3 bucks. I haven't had any problems with the controls or minigames. It could be excellent with some additional content.
Thank you! I think maybe the problem is that for scifi fans like me, the trailer and previews left a big impression, and it's hard not to let your imagination over hype the game at that point. But I think I will pick this up tonight. Cheers! I will add, all the talk of the high difficulty is a good thing in my view. I'm all about challenging games, they bring me back to my childhood when all games were hard.
