game developer's response "But yes, we stand by our statements - there are assholes on our boards (and in the real world) and we might very well punch them if we ran into them in the streets. Giving us $25 does not permit you to be a prick about things. That's just the truth. Sorry if that isn't "PR" enough for you. That's the nice thing about being an independent developer - we can tell people to #### off and not have to run it through HR." -Jordan Coombs So there you have it folks, straight talk from the man himself from the first Star Command Kickstarter comments (probably deleted by Warballoon by now but I found it on a reddit post about the whole incident). He feels that just because you give him money you're not able to criticize him about his game. There is a reason why this game is being released under an LLC and that's so that Warballoon, and thereby Justin and Jordan Coombs, doesn't get sued by all the investers that put their hard earned money into the game and don't see all that was promised. You may say to people who think that it should have been better and featured more that "We might very well punch them if we ran into them in the streets." Funny thing is though, if Kickstarter were run more like a movie studio, when people invest money in a movie they have a lawyer on hand that handles that investment and if the project doesn't go at the pace that the investors want or it doesn't look like the final project that was first conceived of then that lawyer takes everything from the development studio. So Jordan, before you start acting like an asshole again, just be glad that Kickstarter didn't take your project from you.
+1 to this!!Damnit I want to sink some alien @$$!!I used the torpedo though but it still has the same principle...How the heck are you suppose to hit the damn enemy?!?!
K so if you hit the button that brings up the menu for traveling and recruit hiring you'll see a third option. It's the one on the bottom. Tap that and you can save anytime. Well I'm not so sure about during a battle but it's totally there haha.
Someone should tell him that the reason HR doesn't let you say this kind of stuff is because it directly affects sales.
This game reminds me of Fable a good game that is looked down upon because we were promised way more than we got. The game is very enjoyable (for now) and had some nice mechanics it's too bad that the game looks so linear because it could have been WAY better.
Oh haha. I figured what I was doing wrong. I was thinking you had to tap anywhere on the screen to connect them. Wasn't thinking to tap the little circles themselves. Fires that way...kind of a fun mini game actually. Also didn't know to tap the rooms and charge up the tokens. Yeah, little better tutorials would be nice
Setting up an LLC was a smart thing to do. I recommend that to anyone who is doing a Kickstarter. Not delivering - now that is a problem and an LLC won't help with that. All I can recommend now is that the devs man up, take a serious look at their customer feedback and finish the game. Pretty much everything mentioned in this thread would have been brought up by neutral playtesters. I think this is the real problem here. The Kickstarters created too much hype and too much noise of blind fans and haters. That makes it hard for constructive criticism to be heard.
Ok,I will try that..I completely agree that the tutorials need some serious work..If not, then just make a game manual within the app..
Yeah, I went ahead and bought it. And you can save in between missions/battles, but I couldn't save during the first battle at least. I imagine that you can never save during battle. Hopefully the app will stay open in the background if I click the home button. At least then I can pick it up and continue a battle. Unfortunately, when I shut off my phone it will have to be loaded from last save before the battle.
About 4 hours. Bear in mind that I never failed a mission once I had strategic hull breaches in place. Very often I'd have to abandon my dodge room and regroup my shooters in the shield boost room. In the last mission I got blasted a lot but your ship never gets totally destroyed.
hey guys, any feedback on how this works on the Ipod gen 4? i saw someone complain of lag on the app store on their ipad..so im kinda worried if i should buy it...
I agree with a lot of people here. This would work a little better if it was a turn based (game pauses as you decide to move or act). Or at least have an option to play real time or turn based. It's pretty enjoyable, but waiting for tokens and shots drags a little. Being able to skip the enemies turns allows you to only act, speeds up missions, and avoids the problem of needing to save only in between missions which is difficult if you only have a few minutes to play.
This game has been crashing on me pretty regularly even after restarts, that's the only time that has happened to me since the Facebook app that I had for 10 minutes. It's pretty fun, but yes, it's a lesson in frustration. I can never seem to upgrade because I have to spend all my tokens on new guys. I wish there was a way to grind for upgrades (or is there?) It's really painful when you are about to win and you screw up on the mini game. Also, it drives me nuts when the first machine gun circle is immediate, making the timing difficult in not a fun way. Still a fine way to spend $3.
Some nice and some bad mechanics. The invasions are too frequent, you can't pause to plan, you have to create tokens to dodge and shoot, engineers are dumb and you have to micromanage them every few tiles so they do their work, the minigame for attacking might be nice, but gets boring when you have to do it 30 times in a fight. It has potential, but it definitely needs polishing in the gameplay department. The tokens are limited, and grinding for them is slow and you might lose more than gain, wasting time with annoying invasions and destroying your ship...
I'm so torn on this. I didn't care for how they went about the criticism but at the end of the day, I like video games. I can't tell if people like this, are trying to convince themselves they like it due to the hype, or if the game is just okay. Part of me just wants to get it to see for myself but it is this or kingturn.
Honestly I think this game works great the way it is. Could definitely use some improvements though but I hope a "lazy button" for weapons and such isn't implemented because it would take away from the entire experience of managing your ship and crew in the heat of battle which, for me, makes this game extremely fun to play. Needs a little more in-depth tutorials though (especially for the attack mini games) and somebody on here mentioned that your recruits couldn't target an enemy while moving to a different location or back away from and approach enemies that are crowding them or moving away from them. which I think should totally be implemented. (Basically better crew ai I suppose) Not to mention better skills and maybe equipment and better weapons and such but, of course, all this stuff could easily be patched in later on. Other then that I'm really enjoying this game! Loads of fun!
Disagree. The live action makes everything feel more frantic. In truth you are managing two battles at once: inside and out. If you can keep your rooms charging the ship battle takes care of itself. You will always take one hit and then you can use dodge to avoid the second, take the third and use shield boost to recover straight away. Then use a combo of dodge and shield boost to prevent too much damage to your guys. Your mobile shooters should have one healer with them and protect entrances unless you have strategic breaches to do that. If you get overwhelmed move everyone to the shield room where your second healer is and hope they follow you in there. Hide your captain on the bridge. I usually make him an engineer and change him to the bridge if it gets attacked, although i had a strategic breach by the door so anyone who went for him got sucked out. Overall it needs an option to speed things up and an option to move groups at a time. It would help if there was more to gameplay than just battles, the battles were fun but it felt like there was little else. There seems little point in the larger ships because more rooms would be pretty useless, you only need cannons and guns. Shield and dodge just help avoid hull breaches in inconvenient locations and more people would be a pain to control with the lack of a group select feature. Overall it is worth playing, but I hope they add some more stuff to it soon because once you've done it once, you've done it all.
Game Impressions Mission 2 (zombie russians): automatic victory, I didn't do a thing Mission 3 (save the green folks): I easily destroyed the enemy battleship, but two groups of ants invaded my ship and they simply wont' die! My red crew has been firing at them for like 1 hour and they've barely lost any health...
