Review How does one get a game reviewed in Touch Arcade? Is that at their discretion? Or assuming the hot games section will soon follow with a review? Promocode is ready if they do
In two words... From all the feedback I am getting I think I finally found the words that describes Star Cat Adventure to the unconverted: "Refreshingly Different"
I like this game. I also admit that I enjoy seeing the "making of" stuff that you've been posting. But holy moly, it is such a huge turnoff seeing how hard you keep bumping this thread. Out of ~120 total posts, the developer himself has 85 of them. This would normally have been squashed a while ago because it is against our rules, but I can tell you're not trying to do it on purpose and it's just from an abundance of excitement about releasing your game. Which is awesome! But not fair to other devs who do follow the rules. Please try to collect your thoughts before posting, and try to avoid posting frivoulous things like "Waiting for a video to upload!" And please please PLEASE if you are going to give away promo codes, please do it in the appropriate forum, I've already had to move a ton of posts from this thread over to there: http://forums.toucharcade.com/forumdisplay.php?f=22
I played through the first world today. It took me a hot minute to realize that landing on the star on 1-4 gave me a power up and then a few more minutes on how to activate that power up! I read through the thread to see if it had been mentioned, but it wasn't. I definitely don't like tutorials with too much hand holding, but I did hit a "caterpillar wall". After that, it was smooth sailing until the last level with the firewall. Took me about 5 times to get through it. I did start 2-1 and noticed immediately how more exact your tail pulls must be. I think my 7 year old daughter would love most of the first world, but after that she would probably start to struggle. Does the difficulty level off with world 2?
Agreed It's my first time on this forum, but agreed. looking back at it now. damn! apologies i got caught in a loop!I didn't mean to bombard people with miniscule updates. my consequent activity will be evident of this Thanks!
Thanks for giving a go! Hi Paulkane, Thanks for playing The first galaxy is designed to ease the gamer into the control system and it goes through the simple jumps to the longer pulls of the tail, moving enemies as well as static hazzards. It kind of prepares the gamer to what's up ahead the level with the power up is on purpose. I intentionally wanted gamers to discover and encourage them to explore and think. That caterpillar level is designed to be done only one way. you may die here and there, but ultimately the gamer will think... "whats this star planet" I am surprised you missed the hand tapping on the aterpillars when you do land on the powerup planet? The game dedifinitely doesn't follow the longer harder formula up ahead, it just gets more and more interesring. I've tried to keep a mix of puzzles that are totally different to the previous worlds, and not arguably harder and harder My niece and nephews love the cookie monster and the spiders and cannon ball levels in galaxy 2. Please do let us know how you find the rest of the game! Thanks again for playing.
I see dev's giving away promo codes on their game threads all the time. I didn't know that was against the rules. Anyway, I was just wondering when the android version of this will be released
Android version Hi Yankeeblue000, You would know better than me, but my wrist has been firmly slapped lol ... a private message would have done the trick. Anyway, yes. The android version is definitely on the cards (next), as is Steam soon after. Realistically, it will be another few weeks before I even fire up Unity and switch that build setting
I'm going to pick this up tonight! I think my kids will enjoy it. I think it would look fantastic running on an Apple TV, maybe hit that build setting in unity as well!
Cool hehe, kids seem to love the crazy things in, and the fact it always throws soemthign at you. like lolly pops, bubblegums dragons aliens etc. Apple TV, very interesting. I havent given that a though actually, will look into it definitely. Awesome man, please do leave your impressions here after you give it a go - much appreciated
Anyone beaten the game yet? Hi guys, Been over a week now. Has anyone been able to beat the game yet? I anticipated the game to offer around a week of gameplay on/off casually for new players. Would love to know if anyone has?
Android version... Hi guys, Started the android build last night.... Thinking of adding any small wins, probably cosmetic (like the cat tansforms its appearance when powered up. which will also carry onto to an ios update soon after Any suggestions?
Here's my review/feedback then some constructive critisism This colorful game oozes cuteness. You play a cat with a fluffy tail. Your mission; get all the stars by pulling that poor cats tail back like a rubber band on it's way to nowhere.... (smile) Well.. actually, StarCat is on it's way to the other side of the screen. You can land on planets along the way or fall down.. down.. down.. oblivion. Sounds simple... right? The first few levels are, so that you can learn the game. But, as you progress it becomes more difficult. In one level, there were aliens that had beams coming out the bottom of the ships. Luckily, I was given the ability to shoot them down like they deserved! LOL Other levels include other baddies like rats and another had fire chasing after me. (The fire one was tough) As 'spring loaded' (did I make up that term for this game?. I don't know) type games go.... this one has some fun surprises and is quite enjoyable. --------------------------------------------------- Constructive criticism: I would have liked it much more if before each level or section, there was a scroll or picture of the playing area. It could be without the stars. (Or with them?) Everything fills the screen up that it would be nice. Especially for those with smaller screens. There is so much you could do with this game. Earning different characters or outfits. Maybe different tails? Maybe have 1 special, hard to get to star that can be used to get the tails or outfits... in each level? Or maybe in some levels, there could be a hard to reach tail, outfit, etc.. that could be earned immediately. Just ideas... Good luck!
Thank you Hi Lavender, First, thank you for taking the time to play and share your thoughts! I love those paranoid unibrow aliens lol makes me when look at their animation Here's the thing. I am from a generation of gamers/developers who grew up with games that gave the player everything they needed. To even ask for more money for a cosmetic difference would have been frowned upon haha. Having said that, those games were EXTREMELY hard which isn't good either. I experimented with a lot of level designs per galaxy. When I made it easy people said it's not challenging, when I made it challenging I got the old "it's too hard" lol. So in the end I redesigned & tested each level for days... and made sure that generally gamers would be able to do a level within 5 tries. Re. Panning and zooming. I opted for a zoom as you pull the tail, this made sure I didn't introduce more taps and input and kept the gamer in the moment. Then I made sure you can always view the next star or trust the arrow hints for the blind jumps. I left out a few things to release the game. Pending sequel/update. Different cat transformations being one of them! But I promise, the game has many more surprises up ahead Hopefully you keep coming back to the game casually over the weeks. Love the different tails ideas!!! Hmmmm.
Trippy visuals and easy gameplay that challenges you. Reminds me of Parachute Ninja from back in the day. Well done.
Hi CygnetSeven, That's a commendable comparison. I remember Parachute Ninja it was really cool! With Star Cat I'm hoping gamers will get a sense of "I wonder what the game throws at me next".... no level is like any other in the entire game. It was a mind bender trying to think of new stuff all the time
COOOoool Can someone help with what she says? especially at the end? Subscribe to the TouchArcade YouTube channel Absolutely love this video as it shows how the game has no language barriers!
Reviewed 4.5 stars by Touch Arcade!!! Awesome guys! 4.5 Stars !!! I'm REALLY happy that the reveiw understood and reiterated my intention behind Star Cat Adventure. New Retro originality, and yes, heavily influenced by the 80s ad 90s lol The colour scheme is deliberately conforming to that era Will post more videos of the game now as the later stuff is mentioned in the review. But, it's best if gamers experience the surprise.
Well deserved. One of my favorites. Beautiful game and lots of fun. Instant classic in my honest opinion
