    Hi everyone !

Today I'm happy to announce Majaka's 2nd game: SQUARE PLANET for iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch.

Play a cute little Ball, infiltrate the Square Planet and rescue your friends from the evil Squares. Everything is square and edgy on the Square Planet !

We are also revealing a first environment set : the Square Forest. We will regularly update this thread as we gradually reveal more sets.

The game is currently in development and set for a September release.

Thank-you so much for the nice words everyone !
I edited the OP with new screenshots of the 2nd environment set of the game, the Rock Caverns.

Things you might catch on the screenshots :
    • Cool animations happen on screen, such as Square Bats flying
    • A side-challenge to every level is to find & free all 6 prisonners
    • We've improved the interface a bit

We'll be showing more stuff soon : new environment sets, power-ups, ennemies. I might also post funny pictures of the Evil Squares in their daily life, sunbathing, working, hanging out, etc.

    Hi everyone,

Here's a close up on the main character. We just call him "The Ball" at the moment.

What do you think his name should be? or perhaps it's a she???

I like how the main character's round in a square planet, but i hope tere isnt tilt controls involved.

Yep this looks great, the dev 'seemed' to suggest touch controls as well, hope there is.

This reminds me of an old classic back in the 80's - Bobby Bearing (NOT the terrible iOS version), hope the controls work well as the game looks great so far. Roll on a trailer !

thanks ! that's exactly the point, the Square Planet feels alien and dangerous to him.

I'm afraid the game * is * tilt controled, it just made so much more sense. I hope you'll at least give a try when it's out! :D

Thanks for the feedback ! Didn't know Bobby Bearing but it seems to have a nice Marble Madness vibe to it.

    Re-controls:
I meant that you can tap the screen to jump and a few other things too. Movement is tilt-based only, and it's super fun and works very well !
FWIW, we actually do have touch controls on the PC version (for development only), but won't implement them on iOS. They turn the game into a very different thing, while the core, fun gameplay is about pace and balance.

We're going to post more pictures and stuff for now, and will definitely make a trailer as soon as we can find time !! Certainly before launch for sure.

I'm fine with tilt controls, don't get why people hate them

Personally i dont hate them and actually like the tilt options on a couple my iphone-staple games, but i prefer buttons generally, if there was a choice.

I'm not always a fan either, tbh.

For this game it just really made sense, and they work really well, but it's not always the case. The worse thing would be to shoehorn tilt controls in a game that should really have buttons, or the other way round.
Also there are drawbacks to tilt controls, such as when playing in an unstable environment (typically bus or subway).

    Hello !

It's time we reveal the CUBE CITY today, check out 2 brand new screenshots in the OP.
We're also introducing some cool gameplay features : gravity switch, ennemies, and of course “friggin laser beams!”

How do you like these screenshots ? We’re working full force on building more levels at the moment. Notice the 2 Squares lying down in the back? Square Planet will be full of such mini-scenes providing insight on what the evil Squares are about, but also how they exploit our cute friends, the Balls.

    Trailer

Here comes the trailer! I'm also super happy to announce that Square Planet is to be released this week on Thursday, October 18, as a free universal app.

Here's a new gallery to celebrate. We're showcasing the Evil Squares in their daily life on the Square Planet. They're no so different from us, are they?
