As an owner of the game on pc, I'm looking for a good excuse to buy it again. The awesome devs will probably get my money again at some point, but I figure I should probably wait to see if cloud saves will include the pc version a la desktop dungeons.
Just beat The Bloated Grotto on savage, required as much patience as I could muster... I didn't notice earlier, but do you always get a choice for the loot after a boss battle? I had to pick between an item that has a 20% chance to revive on death and one that gave 25% more chests. I picked the revival since later I'll probably roll out with my own equipment instead of relying on chest drops. I'm hoping the other item is still there in the pool and can be found randomly?
I think I chose the other one because I didn't look at either description (for some reason I forgot that I could flip the cards) and now I regret it. Chance of revival sounds priceless.
Yay, halfway through the game on savage. Sproggiwood is all about knowing enemy behavior and manipulating it safely. I love how each levels feels completely different for different classes.
Yes, there are some standard "beat x boss with all classes on y difficulty" but also some like "kill a monster that loves you" or "beat a dungeon without killing any enemy except the boss".
They are completely different games. Sproggiwood is more on the action side of things, and Desktop Dungeons is more puzzle RPG.
DD is a puzzle game that plays like a roguelike. Sproggiwood is a roguelike with combat that feels like a puzzle.
Am I missing something about the blue wisp pairs? The only way to destroy them is to kill both at the same time, but that is more or less impossible when you encounter them on floor 1 when you have almost no way to kill multiple enemies. The vampire doesn't even have an AoE skill other than the drain which does minimal damage. Is the only way out to equip myself with an AoE weapon.?
Both are exploration based roguelikes. Personally I prefer Sprpggowood because it feels more action based and feels more mobile friendly due to being a universal build. Desktop Dungeon might have more character classes versus Sproggiwood's 6. In DD you wonder around stationary enemies looking for those at a equal or lower level to plummet so you have to look for powerups to overpower or overlevel the foes. In Sproggiwood you directional pad around moving foes that chase you and unlock powers as you level up (each new stage resets your level). Sproggiwood has some cool bomberman type attacks and many enemies leave mines so even when on the warpath you need to be strategic or risk corning yourself with deadly corpses. Desktop Dungeon might feel more unique in it's level emphasis and probably has more content but Sproggiwood has kept me busy all day (it's challenging). Both might risk feeling redundant over long sessions and have a 'just one more game' feel.
Run, I think you do have to one hit kill both. With vampire whittle down health then use drain (its worked for me)... I love/hate the twists with the pairs.
Is this as good as Wazhack? If anyone has tried both? I'll probably get it anyway but just wondering as Wazhack is my benchmark for iOS rogue likes.
The other still tries to hunt you, but if you kill it then it will re spawn next to the charmed one and they will basically be stuck next to each other trying to drain each other dead. Not particularly helpful since you miss out on the xp. I think I'm going to grind out some coins and buy at least one good AoE weapon for each class, I've already invested in the merchant quarters to make that worthwhile.
Sproggiwood is good... but nothing is WazHack good. Sproggiwood could benefit from more enemy variety and loot that isn't essentially the same for all classes. I'm loving Sproggiwood regardless...
Best advice ever -- I went from being very 'Meh' about this game to being completely engaged by following this One Simple Trick.
