Did you not understand that the Aliens were not as advanced as us? Go watch Predators or some other movie if you want high tech aliens. It's not a new premise at all.

There's a reason they had broken language and such, as well as no modern technology. It's because they are not advanced like humans were.

I don't understand why you all are complaining since firstly, the story wasn't the major focus of the movie, the world was.

Secondly, the plot "HUMANS HATE ENVIRONMENT" is partly true, and if you try to say otherwise your retarded. Humans are selfish. If you see something shiny and cool you want it.

The army guy is tough because think about it. In that situation, do you want someone who's tough running the show or do you want a girl scout?

As has been stated...the star of the movie is the planet pandora. With it's rich and vivid fauna and flora. I actually felt for the forest as it's getting blasted by missles. I felt that was the movie's strongest plot device, and ultimately the reason I loved it.

EDIT: Also I quite enjoyed the over the top exploits of the general guy. Sure it's been done a thousand times....doesn't mean I'm sick of it. Especially since he was a legitimate badass. No special powers, or dna manipulation. Just angry typical Jarhead, who wants the kitties to pay.

why remind us with a piece of shit movie? why not come up with an original story.

It's too bad Jim Henson is dead...

been listening to 40's music lately, i'm coming to realize, the music of today is NOTHING, same goes for most other media.

Listen I can see you really enjoyed the movie. I thought it wasn't that great, nothing special, nothing new story-wise. I didn't think it was horrible, I just didn't see why it got so much hype.

I would never see it again and think way better movies have been made, even this year. But if you don't feel that way, fine, movie opinions aren't that important.

I wasn't expecting the Dark Crystal still. That cracked me up. :D

I thought Avatar was a very high tech remake of Dances with Wolves. The special effects were nice, but I wouldn't call them "ground breaking." It was basically more of the same with slightly better detail and realism.

The story was okay, and I enjoyed some of the philosophical musings, but the lack of originality kept it from being as good as it could have been. I would have liked it more if it wasn't so "good vs. evil." Maybe the humans could have had a better motivation for being there.

    I give it a weak 7 out of 10.

If you complain about the story then you automatically missed the point where Pandora was the main character, and the story was just a way to show it.

haven't you considered that the spell of the story didn't work so well on everyone else?

I said the story isn't the important part, the world it's set in is.

If the movie was about Pandora, Cameron shouldn't have added all of those wonderfully annoying human characters. Colonel Badass made me mad. He was kind of funny in a few scenes, though. The scene where he rushes out and starts shooting without the oxygen mask on cracked me up. He was so over the top.

I liked Avatar, and I might even go see it again. I just didn't love it.

Avatar wasnt even that good. Special effects, slow motion, and a story line already told a hundred times.

imagine the movie with no special effects, CG, etc..

And mr. Darcy is the "avatar" character.

    would you still see it?

PS. I don't mean mr. darcy from married with children, I mean from that jane austin book the chicks love so much. ( ask imnosuperman, he knows )

although, now that I think about it, replacing the cast of avatar with the cast of married with children would actually make it seeable.

I see what you mean, but me myself, i liked the slow motion. It always seems cool to me.

i was focusing on Pandora itself, then General Badass came to crash the party. Then i started to care about the Na'vi. Then once Badass was dead, i thought...i know how this is gonna end. I think everyone did. :p

I havent ever seen any of the other movies referenced in this thread, so i cant compare District 9 or anything to this. From watching JUST THIS MOVIE, i liked. Didnt love it, but it was worth it to me.

and the animal that chased Jake through the forest sounded just like the t-rex from Jurassic park

    So it's a tech demo?

Seriously, the driving point of a movie should be the plot. Take, for example, the Godfather. Clearly not the best visuals, but the plot and characters are so well developed that the movie is very engrossing and leaves you thinking about it long after you've seen it.

If the driving point of a movie is the visuals, then the only reason the audience has to see it again is to observe the visuals.

I guess this is because I always have high expectations for the plot.

Well, I thought the movie had one of the most predictable plots EVER. About 45 minutes through the move I knew how it was going to end. It's like the movie Dances With Wolves (if anyone here has seen it). The visuals were good but, like Hodapp said, it looked like a tech demo. Whatever, I just want to see the Halo movie
