So I was looking for a good RDP client to stream some of my audio and also to play flash videos. I spent about $40 on various clients and came across splashtop, $5 and it was EXACTLY what I was looking for. So impressive in fact I had to make a review video for my friends here at TA. also the dev is having a contest for best video, but I don't think I'm going to enter as my voice is quite annoying, but I did want you guys to see I got onlive running on the iPad and flash videos work great... So anyways sorry about my horrible voice acting but I thought this was too impressive not to share.... I hope you like the video!
Watching just to hear what you sound like... voice is about three octaves lower than expected... no insults come to mind. What a con!
You should enter that contest, voice isn't annoying at all. Good vid that showed the possibilities of the app. Maybe I'll pick it up, just got an iPad 2.
LoL, thx rocket! I think everyone probably hates their own voice. I recommend it, it did take awhile to set up the RDP but it was worth it!
I have the app (got it when it was on 99cents sale a while back). Unfortunately, the performance wasnt really all that great with my mac. Windows version seems to be working 10x better than that.
I've always used Jumi Gamer which I thought was pretty good but watching your youtube video splashtop looks really good I like how you were treating the windows desktop as a touchpad instead of having to fiddle around with the mouse cursor. The streaming Video also looked very good I'll probably stick with what I have but splashtop looks excellent. Very handy type of app to have if you have wake on lan support on your pc means you can turn it on and use it from basicly anywhere.
Yea I was pleasantly surprised at how well it ran, I have jumi gamer but wasn't all that impressed with the quality. It does work and easy to set up. But it's just not nearly as responsive as this app.. So people know I am running ultima online, and WoW no problem...
That sucks, your truly missing out, I forget that I'm even remotely connected it's so damn responsive! All in all by far the coolest app I have on my iPad next to nescaline... I fooled my buddy last night and told him I installed win7 on the iPad.. He almost died lol..
Rocket!!! Thanks for the kind words man, without you I would have never entered... And won 2nd prize!!!!!!! Just got an email from the splash top CEO, I got the runner up prize and won an iPod touch, a hat, and a ball cap! Thanks again to everyone who watched!
Well the website has been updated to show the winners! http://www.splashtop.com/remote/challenge I won the best demonstration of the gaming category..
Congrats! You should ask the CEO when better controls for games will be added. They said that it's planned. Two remote desktop apps I love are this and everyAir. I have to test performance again, but everyAir may actually perform better for 3D games. It even has joystick controls (though it still needs customizable buttons). Check out a video of it in action (not my video): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=irvuMcU6TjY I'd say that Splashtop and everyAir will be neck-in-neck for gaming once both are optimized just a little more. They will definitely compete well as long as development consistently continues as it has.
Splash top just received the update and I was seriously hoping for some better game controls, didn't happen this time.. A way I've fixed that though is I'm running splashtop on the iPad and using wificontroller (free) on my iPhone, works pretty decent for some games...
Is this just an RDP client, or is it somehow geared towards gaming? I've used a number of different RDP clients, will try the lite version of this over the weekend.
Yea it's just RDP, but really smooth, able to play online on the iPad with full audio, I use wifiremote to control the games, works pretty well... Better with puzzle games, but I'm playing braid on the iPad and it's sweet!
Cool - I'll check it out this weekend. Most of the RDP clients I've played with are a lot more expensive than this one!
