Well, I'll probably keep my iPod 2G. Depending on whether and when the iBooks store will become available in my country, I may even stay at OS 3.1.2.

Some interesting suggestions - but CD, please try to not sexualize/girlify Mineko too much, it always leaves a bad taste in my mouth, personally. It is rare to play a female character that hasn't been made slightly (or not so slightly) offensive to those of female persuasion. Sigh.

Wow, great news about the size, though! I didn't manage to win Rogue Touch yet and suspect that I never will, so Mineko should keep me occupied, like, forever!

Until then, Stanza should serve you well.

I think you might have a new item type (or sub-type of potions).

I'm also thinking of potential Aura effects (akin to Paladin's in Diablo) where creatures (enemies or allies) will get the effect when within range.

Each bottle would come with so many uses. If wanting to take it further, here is an idea probably more complex than it is worth to implement (but hey, I'm no programmer, what do I know?), that being the ability to use multiple doses in an attempt to put whatever the perfume's normal effect is into overdrive. The catch being, not only that it would use up another does but that it might either add nothing, screw up the effect already in place, or worse yet, have the opposite effect. I see this as something akin to putting a processor chip into overdrive, that being that doing an additional dose should be fairly safe but as you push onto the 3rd and beyond you'll place yourself at greater and greater risk of botching it all up (maybe this would require some sort of special skill check per dose?).

Oh, and in an unrelated note, I'm with Isilel on her point. Let's make sure at all times to make this a game that we can proudly share with the family and avoid that creepy area where Izuna seemed to aim bu over sexualizing their main heroine.

Oh, believe me, it is serving me most excellently ;). Still, it would be nice to have iBooks for some hot new releases like, say, the next Wheel of Time book.

I agree about the overall slant towards women in the game, the game design is not intended to be offensive in any way, but rather inspirational.

Spirit Hunter Mineko is a story about a tough, determined teenage girl. Ultimately I need to highlight her femininity without being too stereotypical or cliched. That's a task in itself! I think you'll find the way I go about this to be much more subtle than we've been making it sound here with perfume and hairspray item ideas.

    (Never before told details below;))

Most of the subtlety used to highlight Mineko's feminine side will be found in my "mood" system. All the various things that happen around Mineko, and the actions she takes, affect her. Happiness, for example, can mean faster HP and SP regeneration. And Happiness can be found through exploration of new areas, finding something nice in the dungeon, or even shopping with a Merchant you meet (I defy anyone to show me a female acquaintance that doesn't enjoy shopping :D)

Happiness can be reduced through a number of means... bad things happening to you, getting caught out in the rain, stepping in a trap, getting a critical hit on you, being affected by other emotions like fear (of a particular monster) or anger (towards a boss monster for example).

Not to say that perfume is out of the question as an item. I find that one strangely appealing for the variety of good and bad effects it can have, and the multiple ways you could use it.

Eh don't listen to the haters just keep doing the awesome things you do. But I have a feeling this would make a awesome 3DS title because of the 3D would express the lighting very well imo.

Great, now I've got visions of Sims-esque Plus and Minus symbols popping out over of Mineko's head...

Just think of how granular/crazy perfume could get - anointing oneself with portions of W X Y and Z to create effects that last T turns, I'm thinking effects like that Final Fantasy game where you put the bits in your sword (aging memory is failing me) but even more crazy because element X might wear off before Y and Z do causing the overall effect to potentially swing rapidly (much like moods can for some people...)

    Ok got one

    Weapon: Hammer
    Name: The Judge
Folklore has said that when the world slips into chaos that the "chosen one" would arrive. Weilding a large shimmering gavel called "The Judge", the chosen one will pass judgement and purge the evil from the world.

    Or better yet:

    The ShamWow:
From the deep recesses of late-night infomercials when the passing cars keep you from falling asleep in your cheap New York apartment, its light, feathery orangeness absorbs excessive evil letting you wring it into the fiery depths of justice, all the while, you're grinning because it only cost you $9.99, and you got a special deal ending in 5 minutes where ordering then got you another one for free!

    What, no?

Ok it just had to be done

    Weapon: Hammer
    Name: Chuck Norris' Fist
This hammer was forged deep underground somewhere in Texas by a group known as "The Cult of Norris"... Designed to be a large scale replica of Chuck Norris' right fist, it is forged with cursed alloys and then tainted with the blood of a few hundred virgin sacrifices for good measure, this hammer is "almost" as deadly as the real thing....

Thanks for reviving the thread! Been a tough few days, some big thunderstorms and high winds killed my power again, but I'm back at full capacity now :)

The trees are Ironwood, you'll find that they don't yield to your equipment very well. There may be some items that are capable of cutting them though... ;)

Snowstorms and footprints in the game would be amazing, but since it takes place over a few days in the summer I think the cold weather is a bit scarce... I will definitely take that idea and keep it in my back pocket for the sequel though :D

    ----

    General status update:

The past week was really slow going since I had a consulting gig to take care of, and lost power after my return. Good news is that some progress has been made despite the setbacks! More monster animations were created, including a very nice Slime monster. Yeah, couldn't resist bringing the Slimes in. Much like Rogue Touch, or Shiren the Wanderer, you could find yourself in a tough situation if you keep hacking at them without thinking.

Also have completed some new environmental effects as discussed before: Water dripping in the caves, and rain/thunderstorms that can occur while in the forest. This stuff looks very nice, but it's not all about the visual treats. These environmental details affect your gameplay in good and bad ways. I'll try to make another short video soon

    ----

Other questions for all of you:

Looking for more responses regarding the use of your devices- do multiple people share an iPod Touch in your house? Would it help to have three save game profiles instead of only one slot like Rogue Touch? Note that you cannot choose where to save, or make copies of your save game, that would be cheating! This is meant to allow 2 or 3 people to each play and have their own progress point in the story, so your brother or sister does not come along and play your character and ruin your BEST RUN EVAR!!! :p

Anyone that is a Roguelike or Dungeon Crawler fan that is still running 2.0-2.2.1 or the base 3.0? Or have most of you upgraded to 3.1.3 or iOS 4.0 by now?

Water dripping in the cave: sounds will be coordinated to the animation on screen, so it will be realistic! Probably even use stereo audio effects to show the direction it is coming from. Rain and thunder noises will be heard in the forest too. I'm trying hard to make this more than a simple game, but something to experience! :D
Yep, slimes can split up! And they look much more realistically goopy when doing so. Their attack is also pretty amusing :p

3.1.2 firmware will be fine of course. I just want to get a feel for what my minimum support level should be. 3.0? 3.1? maybe 3.1.2? I'm sure you don't want me to say 3.1.3 ;)

Will be on 3.1.3 until Isotope updates... ;)

The only other person who uses my iPod is my daughter, and she's a little young for roguelikes.

I was going to say 4.0 but then I remembered that would leave out 1st Gen friends out of the picture. Considering that I think 3.1.2 is the best one out there.
