Termites sound like a total bitch. There was me fretting over a couple of mice running in to steal food from the dog's bowl.

Thanks Coldar! That is a very helpful and well implemented list! Although should I keep using Home Defense or should I use something else? Or should I have a pest control come every few months or every month?

That looks like just a tree spider. They're hard to kill, but they're harmless. They only look freaky. I grew up in Ohio and we had those things all the time.

I live in Denver, BTW. I've been here about two years. I'lived all over the place, but Colorado might be too beautiful to leave.

guys, when this pest control topic is open, I got problem of my own, and you might know what to do. Here in Europe, weve got by this time of year tons of small, around 1 cm long, mosquitos. Their bites arent dangerous (no dangerous diseases either), but I get full of small itchy boils all over me, I kill 10-20 of them a day, even with repelents all around.
    Any tips?

I have the same problem where I live in the US. The only thing that has mildly helped for me is just covering up with loose, thin clothing as much as possible... Spray-on bug repellent doesn't seem to have much, if any effect on them. I get ambushed by them every time I go out to have a smoke.

Yea same here, when I go to have a smoke they keep "trying" to fly in my ear for some reason... another pita is bees and wasps, they seem to like me and fricking follow me all over the place till I run away! (I'm allergic to them)

But for those with flying insect problems should get a electric fly swatter! They are hella fun to use :D *ZAP!* *ZAP!* *KERZAP!*

@NotYou: Yea colorado is awesome :D but the winter is starting to irritate me for some reason. Don't know why.

If a mosquito bites you, try not to swat it away and let it finish. It hardly takes any blood from you and when you swat it away, it leaves it's venom in your blood which results in the itchy bites. Once they are done they suck the venom back up so there is none left in your blood.

Need to comment on this. Mosquito's don't carry venom. They simply use their saliva to thin out the blood when sucking it up. The blood is only used for egg laying and serves the female no other purpose and they are the only ones to bite for blood. They are attracted to humans by our breath (carbon dioxide) because it smells the blood (aroma?) and other factors as well. (time of day, humidity, temp, and weather, etc).

I've been hearing that the new type of repellent that you carry on your belt loop or attach it to your clothes to ward off any attacks is a good deterrent for mosquito's.

Might add that personally, I wouldn't want to wait for an insect to finish feeding off me and then watch it buzz away. I would feel violated. They can also carry diseases so wouldn't advise it. I will stick with my usual remedy and flatten the sucker out when it bites.:D

Oh yea......the itchy part of the bite is only because of the saliva damaging the the bite area.
Also, if your being chased by insects then try a different cologne or perfume (or nothing). It might help.

I would just continue using what you've got but alternate using another type of spray with different chemicals but with the same results.
Find out how often the home would be invaded (how long the chemicals last actually) and by what type of bug(s). Be sure to use the right chemical for the right situation/bug and know the longevity of its use per spray of the home (or powder, etc). If your finding your home being invaded between sprays then spray your home within closer cycles. Such as every 2 weeks or so to start and be careful on how much is used as well.
When using a pest control company some may schedule to your specifications (visits), although they should know when to be spraying your home to keep your home bug free.
    Hope this helps.:)
