    I'm so ashamed.

I just really wanted to pull a Gwen from the portal. Oh well. So, there was a flash sale, and I bought 55 ISO-8 for $4. I had 20, so it gave me three pulls. I knew, after my luck the past week that I wouldn't get one, but I held out hope. Alas, it is not meant to be.

In related news, my all time least favorite Spidey is now Noir. I hate that guy.

I would highly discourage ANYONE from purchasing ISO 8 in this game with real money in the hopes of pulling favorable cards. I speak from experience when I say that this is a game that if you are smart you will play completely for free and WAIT patiently for the cards you want and the duplicates to rank them up.

Believe me, I am sympathetic to your plight! I, too, made the mistake of investing some money into this game, only to get victimized by a horribly bugged and stingy portal system.

The very idea that with the terrible odds of getting what you are looking for from these portals that you have to pay (on sale, no less!) $4.00 for TWO PORTAL PULLS is basically asking you to bend over and say thank you when you're done being shtooped!

Look, this is a great game, and the devs are incredibly talented. Customer support is also very efficient, so its not all bad. But the problem with this game is the same problem apparently with most freemium games. If you start putting money into it in the hopes of getting some value for your dollars, you really are looking at a financial sinkhole.

Bottom line? This is a fine game, and fantastically implemented, so long as you don't spend any money on it. Once you do, more likely than not, you will find yourself underwhelmed, disillusioned, and feeling like you just got scr*wed with your pants on.

In Gameloft's defense, however. this isn't unique to them or to this game. This is the new and exciting world of freemium gaming: Give little more than empty promises to your paying customers while tempting and enticing them with the pretense of value and sticking invasive ads for IAP in their faces many times a day.

I'm trying to reframe my stupid purchase as a one-time donation to continue game development. I mean, I do want the game to be successful and keep being developed. But, I also want them to figure out a better way of monetization. I'm not anti-IAP, but the prices here are ridiculous. Oh well. What's done is done.

No, I totally agree with you!

I purchased a few IAP from this game in the past, a few weeks ago, but at that time, I really didn't understand what Freeium games actually offer you for your money. This one, in particular, is worse in many ways because the portals are meant to be like a lottery. This is fine for ISO 8 won in the course of the game, and would even be good if the packages had a little more heft to them for your money, so as to somewhat make up for the intrinsic portal stinginess. But my experience with purchases was mostly as bad as yours.

As I have been saying on the official forums, I am all for supporting the devs, but freemium games like this make it absurdly hard to do without feeling a little like a sucker.

Thanks! I was pretty stoked. Still not enough for 1st, because some other guy has 17 million. Good grief; the escalation in this game. It's impossible to keep up!

Oh, and does anyone know: what's going on with the next update being "Spider-Verse"? Does that mean we won't get Doc Ock and issue 5 yet? It seems like the whole Spider-Verse tie-in thing has completely hijacked the game (messing up the release schedule of new Spideys, etc.).

Then why not pay what you think is a fair amount to support the developers and then stop? Obviously Gameloft is trying to make money, but no one is forcing you to make IAPs. Beyond that, I don't see the point of complaining.

I watched part of the Twitch stream today, but I missed the part that explained that. Here's what I do know from it.

Update is coming Thursday. Like, big update. Will include a new section that is set in 2099. It looks like Tron, which is AWESOME! I love Tron. Basically, while you are running, a portal pops up and sucks you through to 2099.

New Spiders coming include Miles Morales (end of December; I asked that and they answered immediately), Ultimate Black Widow III (Jessica Drew, Peter's female clone), and Silk (coming in January with her latest costume).

I missed the beginning of what they were talking about, but the Spider-Verse update is going to include some kind of new Daily story. Like, you have to play every day to get the next part of the story and do some task. If you miss a day, you can pay ISO-8 to catch up. Not sure how that will work, but I haven't missed a day since launch. (SMU Anonymous thread starting soon...)

The new stuff looks cool! Also, sideways related, on the Venom pinball table coming to Zen Pinball, they have the same guy voicing Spider-Man as in Spider-Man Unlimited. I thought that was pretty awesome.

So they updated the standard portal with rares. Bulletproof, FF (and its common counterpart), ss ben reilly, ss kaine and spider armor. What a way to level up.

I see the point. If enough people complain, then maybe Gameloft will take heed and adjust their prices. They seem to be a company that listens to their customers, so its important to add that to these discussions. Otherwise the forums are nothing but a bunch of gamer-cheerleaders swinging our collective pom-poms.

Hmm, can anyone explain to me how the whole spiderverse thing began? Was it before Otto gives Peter's body back, or after that? If the latter, then how did he get a physical embodiment when he was transported to 2099 if he only had a conscious mind left?

    Cooooool.

Yay for more female Spideys! And the new daily story thing sounds interesting; if it results in more available iso (or maybe even some scarce cards as rewards?) I'm all for it. (I just hope they don't forget about Doc Ock!)

And I'm glad Miles doesn't arrive till the end of December. That should give me enough time to save up a fair amount of iso.

    Thanks for the info!

    *Edit:

Holy cow. Would've been awesome if they'd done that a month ago, before I had all my rare cards maxed. Great for new players, though. Wonder if we'll eventually be able to buy epics or legendaries with vials?

Beware of that new update. Now when I start the game it tries to download the new issue and crashes. Can't play til it fixes I guess.

The changes sound pretty great overall. I'm curious what thought they have put into score creep. As better cards become more widely available the top 10/100/1000 will get harder and harder to achieve, until eventually the only differentiator will be who spent ISO on boosts for their Great Run and who didn't.

From what I can tell, it's already like that for top 10/100, but if it reaches the point where I have to spend on boosts and hit a great run just to get 50 ISO I'll start to look elsewhere for my diversion. I'm happy to drop $2 here and there to support development, but if consumables become a necessity to compete for decent rewards that's a deal breaker.

An issue for down the road, I suppose.

The team is currently working to fix this issue. Depending on iOS version some users may experience a crash while others will not when updating.

During Superior, SpOck went through a time portal and reappeared eight hours later with no memory of where he was or what happened. Turns out he was transported into 2099 and spent way more then eight hours jumping around realities, building a spider-army, and fighting the inheritors (and possibly a gaggle of Peter Parkers!) which is what we're seeing now in the comics (which definitely take place after Peter has his body back).

Any word about which versions of iOS or which iPhone models are having issues?

Also, the new icon looks fantastic! Personally, I'd prefer something more minimalist long term, but this new one is definitely the best one yet! (Looked on the App Store, didn't download the update yet.)

After further investigation, the team has narrowed it down to a past DLC file that is causing some issues. This DLC was only available for a short while before being pulled, but those users who played the game during the short window while it was available may experience crashing now.

I hope to have more information soon. Some users have fixed the issue by re-installing but that should only be last resort action (progress can be restored after the tutorial is completed again).

Kyle - I only have the new character event but others are reporting having a second new event type as well? I don't see it. Is this a time gated thing or is this an issue I should follow up on?

The Muti-Day event is the new event type for Update 2. Depending on your region it will likely be available tomorrow (Thursday). For players in Asia they are likely already seeing it, as is the case for most events.

Otherwise the New Character event is also the 2nd event running, which you should be seeing immediately after updating.
