Graphically, the game looks superb on my ipad mini retina. Unfortunately, like the previous poster pointed out, when asked to draw a symbol in the very first fight, nothing appears. There is also grammatical errors in the opening cinematic (well as opposed to we'll). Game looks like it has some potential but is off to a rocky start. It's like nobody bothered to beta this thing before releasing.
The spell hints for the gestures are VERY hard to see, and anything past the first one is very hard to execute. For those who get stuck at the first, it's a horizontal line from left to right. To be honest, they should scrap the gestures completely and just use buttons. It doesn't add anything to the game, quite the contrary. For a game that did it right, look at Tengu's Elementalist: there, the shapes where laid out for you. And drawing them well made the spells more powerful. Other than that, I have the impression that the damage spells scale very badly with increasing enemy health. I am only on the 3rd level, and I find myself resorting to support spells more and more. And how you can make a game like this without an automap is totally beyond me. What Lickzy says: did noone test this thing?
A few more things: In the cutscenes, the elf woman looks like Papa Nurgle gave her facerot or something, really weird. And don't get me started on why she is running around half-naked... The title screen looks like a bad 70s/80s fantasy book cover. Please, Jujubee, give the girls some normal clothing and armor. Look e.g. here for examples: http://womenfighters.tumblr.com The camera does odd zooming in in certain places. This is reproducable, so I think it's tied to location. Wanted to say next time I'll note the location, but I think this goes on the backburner for now.
I have new spells and have no clue what the gestures are...my middle finger gesture did not accomplish much either..I am already stuck after defeating the Black Knight. I approached this glowing plynth and suddenly there was a cut scene of some old guy running around. Now I am simply roaming around the same traveled paths doing nothing. All I see is a spider going in and out of log, thats it. Perhaps there is a puzzle laying about somewhere but my patience is waning...
I asked for a refund. It's always the same thin over and over. It crashes and lastly I get claustrophobic. Since I can't get my guy to look up or even straight I'm always pointed at the floor and it actually makes me ill. Sorry guys . I can't play this like it is, can't move around properly and I'm getting tablet sick. I tried tying on of those special belts that car sick kids use and drug it around behind me(the belt not the kid) and no good....still sick....sigh. Okay someone take it now. My keys are on the counter. I am done. Remember needs 93 octane not jthat bronze 87 bs. And flex fuel kills torque gremlins bye again
Hi! - Spells - you can always check in your spell book to see what gesture is the right one for the spell. The Spell book is in the top right corner during the mage turn. - Cameras - you can change the camera in settings - on the left corner in main menu there is a button for it. You can chose from: 1) Cinematic - change the angle and high by it own 2) manual - you control the camera using two fingers 3) Third person (from the back) - After defeating the black knight you need to go to activate the obelisk he was guarding when you do, the portal will open on the lake (there is a bridge that you need to take). Dude (finally an opportunity to say that ) , sorry but you're wrong. Even when you check in the spellbook, you don't get a clear - say, fat red arrow - indication what the gesture is. Instead the game displays the same extremely faint and hard to see bluish trail. Forgot to mention earlier that you also need to be incredibly precise with drawing. E.g. an even slightly sloppy circle for Protection doesn't get recognised. If I don't get the Lightning gesture *exactly* right, the spell doesn't trigger. Some more leeway sure wouldn't hurt here. Camera: I can't comment on anabolicMike's issues, because they don't occur that bad on my Air. But I tried all 3 camera settings, and still get the odd sudden zoom-in in specific spots. Also, I didn't notice any differences between the 3 settings, but maybe I didn't experiment for long enough. By the way, it should be changeable ingame as well, not just from the menu. To be honest, your replies - to me - don't sound as if you really read what people wrote. But ah well, it's almost weekend; I'll wait and see what the new week brings.
Nullzone - sorry you feel that way, I try to read carefully but sometimes it's hard to find out from the feedback what the real problem is. The blue line should show the exact way to draw the spell. I know some of the spells need some practice but that's kind of the idea behind this mechanic - the player should have joy from mastering this skill of spellcasting. I appreciate it can be frustrating sometimes, but when you master the spell it will work 100% of time - I guarantee it Camera - you are right, the camera will zoom in if there is some kind of obstacle (like a rock). So we made camera to move if it hit something instead of going into the object. hope it helps, and yeah you got the joke behind my nickname exactly right ;D
@Dude: No worries, I was quite harsh (blame it on being ill and tired), please accept my apologies for that blunder. I attached a screenshot of what it looks like on an iPad Air 1. Interestingly, it's better to see on the image than when actually playing. As for drawing itself: For example with the Lightning spell, if I am only a few millimetres off with the location on screen where I put down my finger and begin to draw the spell, it does not register. The circle needs to be in the exact position and size shown by the hint, or it does not work. This kind of precision - without any direct visual hints like an overlay - is extremely hard to achieve, even with a tablet pen with a thin tip.
Hi Nullzone That's not right - you can start drawing the spell enywhere you want, as long as the gesture is right it will recognize it. Try it with something simpler like fireball. That said, I can see there is clearly a problem with presentation of the gestures for the right spell. We will try to find a solution for that with the next update.
Spellcrafter: The Path of Magic just got updated to version 1.1! The new release solves all reported issues, so make sure to download it asap! Thank you for your support! https://itunes.apple.com/app/spellcrafter-path-magic/id926420246?mt=8
Yikes! This game got a pretty poor review from one of the Toucharcade staff. Maybe I won't get this after all. It is too bad as it looked great from the screens.
So I'm really interested in getting this, as I enjoy the Heroes of Might and Magic games. I read the TA review, and honestly, it sounds like he didn't play the HoMaM games, because what he describes sounds similar to those games (the mix of RPG and TBS). The one thing I'm not so crazy about though is the limited time to make your combat decisions. I want a TBS game to really be turn based, not pseudo-turn based. Is there an option to turn off the timer? If not, how much of an impediment is it?
The time limit is not a problem and is connected to the main character. In other words you have full control over your troops so no worries.
