But then you see comments praising the addition of touch controls in an update Or maybe not on your country's app store. Anyway:
I've read Touch Arcade and Pocket Gamer's reviews, not AppStore reviews (I never read those). Thanks for the info, buying this now.
The game is fantastic. Unfortunately, the dev got too creative with the controls for my tastes. I find myself fighting the controls more than I care. To substantially move the ship horizontally you have to make a huge slide gesture, even at max sensibility. I don't think it's an improvement over the classic virtual pad. I'm disappointed especially since Mutant Storm has such tight and responsive controls. I will nevertheless tolerate these eccentric controls for a while since the game is so much fun. I'm considering to buy it on Steam to simply have decent controls to play this with. I entertain no illusion regarding the possibility of an update. The dev is running a business and we all know how bad these two titles are selling. It's not exactly a pure breed shmup as is usually expected. More like a modern take on Defender, without the looping level layout. I checked videos on YouTube to help me decide. The game is known as "Astro Tripper" on Steam and PS3.
Imagine something like a cross of horizontal shmup with Tilt to Live controls..but difficulty that will kick you in the teeth along the lines of R-Type difficulty.. While I like the game..I personally still grapple with the controls.
Space Tripper is still my #1 favorite iOS game. You'd be doing yourself and your device a favor by picking it up. =oD
Easily one of my favorite shump-type games. It's definately more of an horizonal shooter contained with the limits of an arena and not a typical shoot 'em up. But I really love the level design and challenge. It took me some time to get used to the controls. But even once you get used to them, it isn't an easy game -- especially the last world.
It was Syntheticvoid's favorite game on ios a while back, so I bought it at the full price, and even then, I thought it was totally worth it. You would have to be a fool not to buy it at 99 cents, it plays a little like Deathsmiles, and the file size isn't too big, so that is cool. Plays equally well on my iphone 4 and new ipad, so that is a total plus. Give it a try, I guarantee that you will like it.
No, incorrect. On the update, they added controls much like deathsmiles, one side of the screen for moving, and the other with two areas, one for shooting and one for changing weapons. If haven't played deathsmiles, you can download their lite version to see how Space Tripper is. They are both great games. Too bad Space tripper doesn't have a lite version, I'm sure more people would buy it if they tried it. Kind of wish they had dual stick controls too in this game, but overall the controls work, for those of you that have an ipad with a stylus, you can play lefthanded with a stylus, it plays really well that way, easy to move.
I had a user requested some screenshots, so here they are... First from my iphone 4 Edit: no sale now, sorry for posting in the wrong forum!
Whoops wrong thread!!! No sale, ignore this accidental thread bump. Hopefully it'll go on sale for xmas though, get it if it does. Sorry again for the accidental bump.
You do realize how cruel it is to necro a sale thread, and especially one with dates that match the current timeframe, right? DBC
Yeah, a user pmed me asking me for some screenshots, so I posted them accidentally to this thread. Sigh. But it is funny how the dates match up. I hope this game goes on sale for xmas, cause it is a great game.
