Well, before anyone bashes the Drunk man, let's remember he's entitled to his opinion...even though he's wrong. It's his moolah and as long as he's not really acting intoxicated and getting in people's faces, let's give him his say. Doesn't mean we can't make fun of this though
I was wondering about iPhone 3G performance a while back, and of course I bought the game. Performance is fine, unless my phone is busy doing some background stuff, like trying to connect to 3G when it drops, or something. Anyway, it's an amazing game so I thought I'd add my thoughts. It's the addictive upgrade cycle that gets me, and I suppose everybody. In the beginning I was afraid it was going to be too much grind, but that's just in the beginning. The controls also grew on me and after a few well-chosen upgrades, things start moving along! I'm at license level 5 now, and you can certainly run into a challenge in this game (on normal difficulty)! When I had to save the uncle before I could level to license 4, I had to replay the sector so many times. I usually don't really appreciate the timed levels, as it becomes hectic very fast and I start to fumble with the controls (especially on a touch screen). It required an exact balance between risk-taking and playing it safe, as some times I'd run out of time and others I'd get shot to hell. Pretty cool in the end after I beat it, though. I hope things don't get *too* difficult later on! I'm pretty much clearing out every sector now, but the low-level ones aren't very rewarding. I think you run out of incentive to clear those very fast, except to get that 100% mining percentage. Maybe the devs can think of something to keep those interesting? Oh, extra missions will be a must, of course. There have been few iPhone games that I have played to completion, but I feel this is going to be one of them. And what will I play after that? More Space Miner, surely??
Yeah, I really like getting feedback like that. It's very hard to improve when people tell you that you got everything right. I'm extremely critical (just ask the other guys), so I never shy away from critical feedback.
Oh, I'm the same way. Overly critical of myself, actually. I'll try to find fault in the game and post it here when I'm done.
A good point and maybe I was expecting too much due to the glorious review. I never even for one second felt challenged playing the normal campaign. I understand that is what hardcore mode is for but I literally was bored while I was playing the game and excited when I was done with a zone for the story and the funny dialogue. Towards the end I didn't even look at my ship just at my radar and flew directly to what I needed because I knew I wouldn't die. Maybe it was too much rpg not enough shooter for me.
Brilliant game Vevan... an absolute standout. Everything is so well polished and balanced and complete. You really hit the mark perfectly, Apple should showcase this as an example of the quality of product possible on the iPlatform. Publishers please study this game and use it as a benchmark.
Hi, Getting the difficulty right for everyone is always hard. Normal is definitely skewed to be easy for this game, and if you're a "gamer", I can see why you'd get bored with it. Part of that was just giving a nod to the iPhone audience which I think has a lot of casual gamers that may have problems getting used to the controls. I think if we targeted the game at a more "core gamer" platform like the PSP, Hard mode would have been normal. HardcORE is, I think, legitimately hard and worth a try. Glad you liked the story though. We normally have two camps: ones that click through the story real fast to get back to the game, and another that really likes the story. And that's just the people here internally!
you really want critical? well, i can't give you that. but one thing i can ask for is this- make it clearer that there is a game+ mode! this is what would have been ideal at the end of the game: 'would you like to continue mining in your field or start hardcORE with game+ and keep all your upgrades?' and if you chose the first option, the after they have 100% completion of fields, ask them once more if they want to go on hardcORE mode with game+ that would have made me love the game. now, i've just stopped playing. it was partly my fault for not reading the description, but im still kind of really annoyed
I will be starting hardcore mode shortly and maybe my review will change. I am a semi-hardcore gamer so your idea of difficulty makes sense to me. I understand that you need to make it casual friendly to make money. Meteor blitz gave me a good bit of trouble while cs.one is still one of the hardest shooter games I have played on the iphone.
Yes, as a matter of fact it is. Are you jailbroken and running background apps? If so it could be a memory issue. If you could email us your crash logs we'd appreciate it greatly. Where to find them: Make sure you sync your device first. Then the files can be found here Mac OS X ~/Library/Logs/CrashReporter/MobileDevice/<your iPhones name>/ Windows XP C:\Documents and Settings\Application Data\Apple computer\Logs\CrashReporter\<your iPhones name>\ Windows Vista C:\Users\AppData\Roaming\Apple computer\Logs\CrashReporter\MobileDevice\<your iPhones name>\ Email them to customer dot support at venan dot com
Meteor Blitz and CS:1 are shooters, period (personally I didn't care for CS:1, but MB is awesome). If they were not challenging, they would have nothing else to offer. By contrast, the asteroids aspect of Space Miner (as the name implies) is about finding ore, completing missions, etc. The robot miners were there as a complication, not as the main objective of the game. I think most people who have praised the game are seeing it as whole package and are not breaking it down like you have. Not to say your perspective is not valid, of course. EDIT: If you're looking for a game that combines RPG and shooter (with emphasis on shooter), you may want to check out 2360: Battle for Cydonia.
Can you please explain this one more? I don't yet have the game, but am looking forward to getting it soon. You have mentioned an oddity in how to continue, but I'm not sure I've heard how to continue properly. What options are you given? If I want to continue in hardcORE am I supposed to answer one way? Thanks. I want to be sure I do things properly.
Of course But I've never had any other game crash as many times as this one. Ok I'll do that. I've checked after each crash, and I always had over 30MB free, and I wasn't backgrounding any apps. I'll send those crash logs over in a bit, still clearing out some asteroid fields
I started a newgame+ on hardcore. Played about 6-8 sectors, now when I try to load that profile, the game crashes. Tried loading other games, rebooting the phone... it crashes every time. I think I may have turned the game off when I was in a situation where you go back to base and have to immediately fly a mission without selecting a sector... maybe the save state doesn't know how to handle that situation? Really sucks though. Had to create a new profile and start hardcore over again with no cutscene skipping or alien artifact carry-overs (I'm going to miss my infra-red)
