this is the closest thing that fan of Star Control II can get .. I don't know .. it give me the same kind of feeling back then when I played that games ..

hopefully the dev can do something like Star Control II in the future .. I think you've nailed the combat engine pretty good already ..

Ouch. How bad is it? I'm fed up with games that run choppy on my iPhone 3G. If this game is not smooth as silk, I may just pass up on an otherwise amazing game! Anyone else on iPhone 3G?

I have iPod touch 3G 8GB running on OS 3.1.3. and no lags were spotted, even in critical situations where dozens of asteroids exploded.
I have heard about low framerate on iPhone 3G / 3GS devices, but I have no idea why there occure any problems.

Hey I'm one of the devs on Space Miner. I just first want to say, I'm really glad you all like the game and thanks A LOT for your support! I can say for sure that all of us at Venan are really surprised by the reaction we got.

During our testing, we noticed that Space Miner behaves differently on jailbroken devices. Most noticeably on 1st gen iPods and 1st gen/3G iPhones. Sometimes certain low level calls won't get triggered properly, a lot of the time, frame rate wouldn't be as good as expected. A lot of different processes run in the background when the user jailbreaks the phone. And once the user starts installing things like Backgrounder, performance is not guaranteed.

Welcome to the forums. It is nice to see another "Venanman" inhere :)
Your explaination has sense. I suggest to every user, who posts notification about performance, attaches also firmware and information about jailbroken (or not) device.
It would help us assume, what the cause of problem is.

Thanks! :) For sure though, the newer devices perform a lot better than the older ones.

To be honest - not really.
Some owners of iPhone 3G and 3GS complain about low framerate is some games and not balanced performance.
If soeone meets this issue - please update Your device to OS 3.1.3. dedicated mainly to 3G and 3GS iPhones to fix performance bug. It may sound rwasonable, buty I am not sure if it helps actually.
Anyway - try it if You complain about lags in "Space Miner"! ;)

I'm on a 3Gs and have experience no performance issues. The game lags only when I get an email while playing, and that's only for a second.

just a quick check .. I've completed the games in Easy mode .. wondering, if I were to played again in 'Normal' difficulties, apart from Alien Techs and harder gameplay, what else I'm missing? Will the shop offer higher item level for example?

Well guys, we had a great, great weekend, and it's all thanks to the people on this forum for their enthusiastic support. From the bottom of our hearts here at Venan, thank you.

There are two many posts to go back and address individually, but I thought I'd answer some of the questions I've seen on this thread so far. So in no particular order:

    1. App going on sale: We don't have plans at this point to do so. I believe pretty strongly that the pricing trends on the App Store are a bad thing, and it makes doing a game like this incredibly risky. We believe it's a good value where it's priced now, and I think the community so far agrees.

    2. Lite version: Yes, absolutely. Expect this in about 2-3 weeks. This will include the first two license levels in the game, and hopefully support exporting your character to the full version. (working out the tech for that now.)

    3. Sequel: At a minimum expect one. There were too many things we had to leave out of this one that we're planning to put in a sequel.

    4. Updates: We don't have a plan in place yet, this is all too new still. We weren't even sure we would sell a hundred copies this weekend, and we wanted to see what people thought of the game. If the sales continue as they are, we will definitely update the game. It will take us some time to work out what the best way is to do that though.

    5. Sales: So far 2k units through yesterday :)

Ok, I need to go finish my current game now and see if I can make it on the high score board :)

Congratulations! That is a good thing to hear!

Well, wait until you are featured on Apples front page (New & Noteworthy or What's Hot) and see how sales explode then. And I swear you will!
We've done our work by giving you the reviews you really deserve. Hopefully, when you are featured, people will read these reviews and follow our stong advice - to buy and enjoy that game.

Oh, forgot - it is getting better:

Great work, guys - you gave a lot of us community members a hilarious time with your game.

Congrats on the great game! I've been playing Space Miner for the past few days and it really ranks up there as one of the best offerings for the iPhone/iPod Touch. This is one of the few games where you actually want to read through the cut scenes, and they are nicely integrated with the shooter/RPG aspects of the game. And, the difficulty level is well balanced and ramps up evenly with boss fights that are both engaging and frustrating at the same time.

Definitely 5 stars on the Albie Meter...if I was still writing reviews.
