There has to be a catch, but that's okay in my book. I'm going to bet it is free to try and a IAP to get the full version, right?

    What's the catch?

The game is entirely playable for free. There is IAP though, which comes in the form of three additional ships you can purchase, $.99 each or all of them for $1.99 (in US dollars).

The advantage to buying the additional ships is that they have some slight bonuses - one has a combat bonus, one has a defense bonus and one has a mining bonus. Plus they look cool. Plus it keeps us gainfully employed :)

There is a nag screen in the beginning and a pause when you upgrade your ship - a necessary compromise because we didn't want to put ads directly in the game. If you get any of the IAP though, these go away.

Finally, getting any IAP will unlock the retina optimized graphics, so if there is a catch per se, that's it.

    Hope that answers your questions!

So you are saying that we have to pay for retina graphics?

ah. the retina catch is sure to get some people pissed off. not me though, as i have a second gen! :D

will this need OS 4.0 though? that would be annoying.

Forcing people to buy an IAP purchase to get retina graphics is the dumbest thing... why is this?

You guys are gonna charge us for wanting the most out of our new display? I find that completely unfair, and sort of idiotic.

Or you could look at it like it's a bonus to the ships

Eh, you're not paying for the app. Its free to begin with. Consider 99cents as the cost of the game instead.

I know that the game is free, but I still think that it is silly to charge for retina graphics. I just hope that other developers won't resort to such a thing.

More than fair and thanks for not getting too cheesy with the IAPs (I also appreciate the concept of the volume discount for all 3)!

Its only 0,99 cents for the retina display so why is this unfair. The game is free and thats really great for a game like this. The developers has proven themselfs with making one of the best games of even the best iphone game ever according to me and many other people. Instead of making there next game expensive they make it free and everyone can enjoy it! Also they do not try to seduce us to spend lots of money on there game because there are only three IAP's with a max of 1,99 cents to spend this is considerably less then most of th eother games with IAP's.
So to sum up if you like it you can reward the devs by buying some extra content!! i think its only fair

Like you said, they made it free so everyone can enjoy, but what if I can't enjoy it because it doesn't have retina. Then I would have to pay to have retina and it wouldn't be free. So why should I have to pay to enjoy while everyone else can get it for free. I don't think that any of you can understand where I'm coming from since you don't have retina devices. Games without retina look absolutely horrid on a retina screen, and I don't think it's right for them to charge us for everyone without retina is getting for free.

You CAN enjoy it. Retina display isn't needed for that.
