This will most likely go on sale in a month, which means I'm holding out. (Yeah I'm kinda cheap, but I got SF 4: Volt)
People around here associate 'full circle' with something positive as well, like completing a cycle and making sense of everything, but not 'going 360'. **lol, yeah way to hijack a thread Agreed, that's what I wanted to add as well I had problems finding it too. Wanted to buy this before I slept but couldn't find it. So in the morning I tried again, failed again, then I tried searching for namco and there it is, spelt SOULCALIBUR! Interestingly though, it has always been spelt Soulcalibur, even in wikipedia and other databases. It's the proper name. I guess they're just avoiding another trademark problem like they had with Soul Edge (hello Tim Langdell), so by spelling it as one word, there's almost no chance of similar problem.
For anyone interested, the size is about 298mb after installation, so it's pretty good considering how huge some of the recent games are, especially Gameloft games, whose lites can be 600mb-1gb.
Heh, Smash Cops d/l file is half the size of SC, but when installed Smash Cops occupies more than SC. Weird...
does anyone know if multiplayer is in the works for this or if they plan to keep it single player? If it's going to stay single player I might pass for now.
That means they're using a better compression method, which is good for those on limited bandwith, but for me what really matters is the size after installation because my iPhone has limited capacity and if a game has a huge filesize, it must be superbly good to stay long my iPhone.
Excellent question. Although I'm guessing if something this major wasn't added to begin with it probably isn't planned. But I hope I'm wrong.
Im not upset at all. I have the 4S and iPad 2. I, as a gamer and ignorant one at that, do not understand how a game as old as this won't work on hardware that is, or seems at least, more sophisticated and stronger than the hardware that the game was first released on. Even with effects and animations dumbed down a bit. I have to chalk that up to my lack of knowledge of how a game is ported. And until I understand how that process works I will continue to be in that frame of mind. The same mindset goes for Liberty City Stories and Vice City Stories. The iPhone 4S is plenty stronger than the PSP and I don't see how that wouldn't be an easy port from PSP to iOS...
Well I was thinking maybe they were working on it and it was too buggy to release with the rest of the game or something. Honestly no multiplayer kills it for me. Anyone know how exactly this is integrated with GC? What are the leaderboards? Or is it just achievements?
This is awesome. Doesn't look quite as nice as the old arcade version, but it plays great on iPad 2. Somebody probably already answered the questions about controls, but the control settings are very configurable. You can change opacity, place the buttons wherever you want, and even add a fifth combo button if you like.
Leader boards for time attack, survival, and extra survival. There aren't too many achievements, but most of them are properly challenging to complete.
First of all, my girlfriend's mad at me for spending more than i should for an ipod game, and second I dont want to spend more for it if the game was already discounted to day. To answer your question... Runs on my ipod touch 4g smoothly. But im afraid the game will get boring real fast because of no online multiplayer. Now as for money's worth...
I think it's worth it in a way. It takes some time to get used to though By the way, it's silky smooth, and I can finally have fighting game with music support!!!!
Game Impressions I'd say the nostalgia factor will be the deciding one. What is there is done well (graphics, music, controls (still need to tweak those myself)). Now, if Namco said "later, we'll bring this this and this in a free update", that would be enough; as of now, it's barebones but solid. You have unlocks (and no IAP for those ) and the practice mode is well done, but after I unlock everything, I don't see myself playing it much. Mission Mode (or Team Battle) could come later. But Vs. (even local for starters) is the most needed one. So yeah. nostalgia. If hearing "WELCOME. TO THE STAAAAAGE OF HISTORY!" gives you chills, you'll take the plunge. edit: also, rival battle cutscenes are here (before Inferno), but in non-subtitled Japanese. Strange to forget that (was it the same on DC? I really need to fire it up again tonight).
Hahaha, all too familiar...all too familiar. I'm just gonna say that if you have fond memories of playing this on your Dreamcast, then you really ought to do yourself a favor and get this. The mere fact that SoulCalibur is in my pocket is a mind****. It's unfortunate that all the fighters we have on iOS have something missing, but as of right now...bar none, this is the most "put together" (does that even make sense? >_>) fighting game available. Graphics are great, it controls just as well as SF and KoF and the game isn't watered down in any way...this is a console experience. That being said...multiplayer. Personally I could give a rat's ass about multiplayer, but it's ridiculous that not even local WiFi/Bluetooth/whatever was added. New modes are said to be coming and who knows...but really, this in the end is a huge factor in whether a whole lot of people buy the game. Conclusion: If you're a SoulCalibur fan who doesn't mind the fact that there's no multiplayer, get it. If you're a multiplayer enthusiast and don't really have a soft spot for SC...nevermind (or alternatively wait for a sale ). For me...this was worth $12. EDIT: I honestly would get down on my hands and knees to keep this IAP for it's entire lifetime. Please, please don't **** with my memories by adding any sort of IAP in this. PLEASE.
Hard to say for now. I love Soul Project Games as much as i love Tekken, and i spend some serious time alone on practice mode in both games. However, on an ipod, this is still going to be experimental. For one, 2 buttons pressed are difficult to pull off. THere's a custom button but so far, i think i can only make 1 custom button. Maybe im missing something, imma have to checkout later.
LOL what ?? There was no good looking arcade version , in fact the arcade version was vastly inferior to the dreamcast port since it run on ps1-based hardware (system 12) .The IOS game looks better than the DC version , cleaner and smoother.
