I really, really like SoulCalibur, in a big way, have enjoyed almost every version (basically the only console game or series I've played or cared the slightest for in the past 10 years), but there is little doubt in my mind that Street Fighter IV Volt offers more value, thanks to the online modes. I own both, but until SoulCalibur implements online multiplayer or a story mode, I will probably only play it occasionally, whereas I could see myself (should I ever have the time) playing SFIV Volt on a regular basis.
I have to say the game looks stunning after the update. Absolutely beautiful in motion, the 60 FPS thing really shows. Now if we could only get MULTIPLAYER and maybe some of the missing play modes (?).
Well seeing the difference now i'm pretty sure i ran below that and the game is now locked tight at 60fps. And it's really great! Now bring on multiplayer...
Stop complaining about online multiplayer. SF4 didn't have online mode either when it first came out and it took them 1 year to finally deliver online mp. iSF4 also has dumbed down, ugly 2D sprites taken from the great 3D graphics of other versions. iPhone 4S is more powerful than 3DS so there's no excuse for Capcom except laziness (plus excluding larger audience, but all newer games already do this without problem). Then let's not forget than even the XBLA version of SoulCalibur has no online multiplayer, so I doubt it's coming to iPhone. But I still hope local multiplayer, story and challenge modes make it to the game. ps: I'm not bashing SF4, I bought SF4 on first day amidst concerns the controls won't work just to show Capcom support for bringing a big franchise to iOS. I love the game so much and bought all DLCs to keep supporting Capcom. SF4 Volt is even better, but I just wanna give another perspective to the matter.
You've got to ask why the iPhone 4 can't do the game at 60fps when the thing has a faster CPU, GPU, and packs more RAM than the Dreamcast console ever did.
I know someone always says this, and someone always has to come in with the same answer, but what the hell - emulation doesn't work that way, unfortunately. If you're making machine B pretend to be machine A, you need B to be much, much more powerful than A was to do a good job. Games consoles especially have dedicated, custom-built hardware inside, and certain games might be written in very specific ways to take advantage of that hardware, all of which can make it very difficult to get even a powerful PC to imitate them. It takes a hell of a lot of speed to run a PS2 emulator effectively, for example.
You are right! Soul Calibur is the most beatiful beat'em up on Appstore! Now with 60fps mode in Iphone4s is perfect! I've bought Street Fighter Volt too and Sf4 at the launch but there is no match, Soul Calibur is the best now, if Namco is going to add Multi, Street Fighter is going to disappear! Sfvolt is a great game but is penalized by the ugly 2d sprites and no retina display.
Speaking of other fighting games, is the REAL handheld Street Fighter IV (that was made for Nintendo 3DS) more hardware intensive than iOS version of Soul Calibur? I know soul calibur is much older. I would gladly pay a premium price if Capcom somehow brought that to iOS.
While all of that is very true, SoulCalibur is not emulated on iOS. It was rewritten for the platform.
I installed this 60fps update on my iPad2 and it's very nice but the characters still lose their voices after some battles like in the first version (1.0.0) of the game... Haven't had the time to play more to see if the buttons stop working.
Don't be a cock. This is based off the XBLA version which is identical to the Dreamcast original. If the Dreamcast with it's spec could run the game at 60 fps then the iPhone 4 should too.
