No the cant fix anything since the UE is more a pile of dead weight. It boggles me how people go crazy whenever they hear "Unreal Engine" when there are so many other games out there that LOOK WAY better than IB and also manage full 360 movement all the time such as; Real Racing 2, Dead Space, Fifa 12, and now Soulcalibur just to name a few!

UE is all hype and tab here and there to move. Lame!

About people's comparisons between console and iphone versions.

I have tried both the xbox and iphone version of SF4. I'm trading in the xbox version in order to get MK, that's how much I like the ios version. I don't think it lacks anything fundamental.

I haven't played the console version of Soul Calibur or KOF but both are great on the iphone IMHO.

Does this game have Game Center achievements or just leader boards?

    Is the final boss playable?

Just got this game and think it's amazing. I used to play on the DC all the time and if you fiddle a bit with the custom controls, you can actually do most of the combos without too much trouble, even with the virtual pad.

Quick question though: what requirements must be met to unlock characters and items in the museum? I've beaten the game with a couple of characters, so far nothing has unlocked for me.

    Thanks for the help!

You should be playing on the default difficulty or higher.

Yeah, it's not up to physical buttons, but it does show you can do a 'proper' fighting game on a touchscreen, no question. I was amazed at how well they were coming out - though to be fair, I was never that great at pulling off proper combos on the real thing ;) . Still, it's startlingly close to how I remember the DC version playing.

The problem for me with the virtual pad is much less the fact they're virtual buttons and more that I used to play by tapping multiple buttons at once with my fingers hooked over the controller, not by moving my thumb to lie across two or more. It's weird holding my iPod in that sort of grip. Oh, and this is one game where I have to admit that your thumb does hide your character quite a few times during play... at least with the default controls, I haven't tried re-positioning them.

Still, it's a really, really good port. I wouldn't say it looks better than UE3 tech - I think some people will just never forgive Epic/ChAIR for not making IB a free-roaming game :p - but I'm very much impressed, even with the cut-down content.

@metalcasket: Thanks for the help. Actually though, characters don't unlock if you set the round count to infinite. Just played again with the default settings and now it works.

Which special button do you use? I noticed there's quite a few possible combinations. There's so many moves for each character too. I feel like I'm just mashing buttons and hoping for the best...

The thing about Soul Calibur is mashing buttons can be a reasonably effective way to learn how to play. A great many characters' move chains start off with multiple taps of one button, then vary it with a direction, or work in another button, etc., so if you think 'okay, so when I hammer on this button he always does swipe one, then swipe two, and then swipe three' it's not too much of a mental leap to think 'oh, hey, I wonder what happens if I do something else straight after swipe three' or 'I wonder what happens if I hit another button after swipe two and before he starts swipe three?' etc., etc.

I was sharing a house way back in the day with three people who hardly played any videogames at all, and didn't have a clue about the different fighting game franchises. They thought I was mad for buying a Dreamcast instead of a PS2, and they didn't have a clue what Soul Calibur was - then when I showed them the game and offered to let them play I couldn't shift them for hours, and they actually started learning how to do moves, what blocking was, how to beat arcade mode, how to do it in no continues even, and so on.

It was just that much more intuitive than Street Fighter II or whatever, where to a complete novice the different buttons make little no logical sense if you haven't spent ages with 2D fighters already. So yeah, don't feel too bad about button mashing. Everyone's got to start somewhere, right? :)

Ok I was going to buy this but I have been reading the reviews on the United Kingdom app store and they all say that it has slowdown but do not state their device.

I have an iPhone 4, is there any slowdown on this device?

Am I missing something, or is there really no way to pause the game in survival mode? I know you're supposed to go through as many enemies as you can in a row, but since I'm playing on a phone, it would be nice to be able to take a break and resume my progress later for shorter gaming sessions.

It depends on which character you want to play. For Kilik for example, I suggest mapping A+B to the custom button because there are quite a few simple moves you can pull off easily that way. Reposition the buttons so you can slide your thumb from one button to another (quite a few cool moves need you to do that) and play around in practice mode with your favourite character.

However, I kinda have to relativise what I've stated before about the controls. While some characters' moves can be done quite easily - try Maxi first and just mash the buttons while pulling the virtual stick forwards or backwards for some freaky nunchuck action- some characters really suffer from the virtual controls.

I have a hard time to beat the opponents with Xianghua on hard, especially because it's really difficult to grab/throw your opponents without holding the iPad awkwardly. But that isn't so bad, considering I'm playing one of my all-time favourites on my iPad...

But, when they make a new game for lets say Wii, they don't make it for every single old Nintendo system. They only support the new ones.

I selected the 3 buttons at once custom option because pushing 2 buttons at once is doable, while pushing 3 at the same time is borderline impossible.

So far I've been using the samurai guy. I guess I'll just have to play around with different button configurations to see which one works best.

The game is really cool tho, totally different compared to SF/KOF/Tekken/MK (yes, this is my first time playing a SoulCalibur game on any platform). With multiplayer it would be arguably the best fighting game on iOS.

So, did anybody figure it out for the alternate costumes? Or this option isn`t possible?
