Someone brought to my attention that I was nearing my 2,000th post on these forums, so I decided to do something "right" with that 2,000th post and express my admiration for the iPhone/touch audio adventure game Soul Trapper and why you should all at least try the game. It's unique in the App Store. While the iPhone/touch has a few adventure games (from text adventures like Advent, to graphical and point and click adventures like Myst, Secret of Monkey Island, the Jake Hunter games and Clue, right to "nu school" adventure games like Dexter: The Game), there are no others, to my knowledge, that are completely audio driven like Soul Trapper. The unique experience of playing an audio game, not a video game, is few and far in between in this medium, let alone the platform. That Soul Trapper has an excellent story, a great cast of characters, and nice voice over work is what catapults it to one of the top games on the App Store as a whole, IMHO. It really is one of the better story based games on iPhone/touch, and if you're an adventure game, or just a gamer curious about playing something "different", it just might be right up your alley. Here's a teaser trailer for the game: [hqyoutube]52QUubIZmRo[/hqyoutube] And a link to the lite version (try before you buy): Soul Trapper Lite Enjoy!
No, not yet. Real Time Associates (the dev) stated that the sequel was in production earlier in the year, and that it would be released this year, along with a new IP, L.A. Knight (also an audio adventure), but I've yet to read anything from them confirming an impending release. I'm hoping that the first one sold well enough for them, and that's why I'm giving everyone a heads up about this game. It'd be a shame for a good idea to go to waste. For newcomers to the game, don't fret. This may be the first episode, but it's a stand alone episode. There's no "to be continued" attached to it or anything. The story stands on its own with a complete beginning, middle and end. Some character oriented stuff may continue to be explored in future episodes, but the story here is self contained. It's a lot like, say, Law & Order in that regard. Multiple episodes, same characters, but each episode is self contained.
This is an interesting and unique game, but it just didn't hold my attention. The audio was well done - make sure to play with headphones on. Being free, I'd recommend it to anyone who wants to play something more like an interactive radio drama/audio book.
