My second play is revealing much more than my first, simply due to the routes I took to get here and also my reluctance to use Throben's curse (I can't see how to get the
    minimite without dying
yet but searching for a way or an alternative, which I'm sure there is. There is a LOT to this game that I missed the time time around even having done what I thought was a huge amount of exploring. Some really excellent experiences and I love how they change depending on what you're wearing. Also on this play, the Archmage knows I'm coming so that has altered things too.

This really is a fantastic game. So much to find and written really well.

I found I got ushered out of the
vault before actually getting anything though! It was a rare moment of being moved on before I was ready.
So I'll need to go back and do it again. But I was quite pleased I made my way through almost totally unscathed. It's little victories like that I enjoy.

Curious to see how I'm going to tackle the end without using the curse (although I could very well end up using it accidentally, which is fine). The BIG ENDING SPOILER
minimite ending was bizarrely low key and meant I didn't even need any stamina so could use Throben's curse over and over
so I'm saving energy and stamina in case I find a solution that needs more brute force. Although that didn't work for me whatsoever in my first play!

Overall, such a fantastic experience. The whole journey is wonderful. Actually, given all the choices we made, one thing I'd love from Inkle if at all possible is more of a recap of our whole adventure at the end. A reminder of what we did across all four games. Might not be possible due to all the variables.

    Improvement Suggestion

I imagine it should be possible to attack the deathwraith in the magically sealed inn with the silver sword.

Thanks for the hint... But you have to
visit the hoofprint cave first without getting sick afterwards...

What exactly am I supposed to say to
    her
? I've tried this twice, but I can only get the info about the
    Birdmen
    .

    I'm curious about this.
I didn't get sick but I'm not sure what I did to get that outcome. How do you become sick?

Edit: So much for me trying to avoid using Throben's curse. Got eaten unexpectedly. Well, maybe on the next play.

If you have Y'bran as a god, you can
save Jann without dying by praying in the cell. Y'bran will hear you and open the door.
. However, he then left me and I was godless for the rest of the game.

ETA: Oh, and I'm so happy that there's finally a reason for the Gardens of Briar (Bria?) in Sorcery 2! I spent hours trying to figure out how to get there when I first played Sorcery 2 and it always annoyed me that I could never visit it.

I think you need to enter the cave and either
bury her or sleep in her cave to catch the Trembling Sickness
    .

You can win without the curse but it takes some planning. There are
    two ways I can remember
-- for one of them you need
    Flanker
    alive and with you.

    I think
    Libra
mentioned it at a certain point. But I'm not sure about this. In my opinion it is important
not to touch the corpse in the cave nor sleep there, because the disease is very infectious.
    I reversed it with the
    HUF-spell
    so that my character knows
that this is a hoofborn so that he can tell the location of the corpse to the elder in the hoofborn-village.

    Thing is, I
buried her and then slept in the cave and didn't get it. Maybe it's only if you sleep in the cave with the corpse?

Thanks to Kablooie for the tips on the character I was looking for.

So... let's talk costumes! So far I've picked up four:

    1) Merchant costume
At the gate before Mampang, go east on the road , pull a merchant off his cart and beat him senseless. Then steal his cart and his clothes. You can run into him later, but I'm a bit surprised he's not naked as a jaybird. Maybe you can bribe him out of it too ... for fifty gold.

    2) Guard costume
Enter the barracks just inside the Mampang gate in the daylight hours, go into the section in the upper right part of the screens. Search the cots, knock out the guard I find there, rummage in the chests until I find a uniform of the right size

    3) Captain costume
There are at least three such available -- steal one from the commander's offce just before the doors, help goblins poison the captain in the mess, then take his uniform, or, just west of the market, lure a captain into the warehouse with her guards, climb onto a box, jump on top of the guards, then rush her, kill her, take her uniform.

    4) Monk's costume
Go into the temple, go into the hall, go into the service, come back out and go into the dormitory. I suspect that if you're wearing a monk's outfit you can enter the monastery at night and sleep in the dormitory -- which has to be a lot more comfortable then sleeping against the statue in the middle of the square, like a homeless bum.

Has anyone found any other costumes?

Has anyone found an underground entrance to Mampang? Such a large city has to have sewers to take away the refuse somewhere. And 'obligatory sewer level' is a trope.

    Oh, one other thing.

I play a female character. You know Flanker, right?
He joined her at night as she was preparing to bed down in the bushes just in front of the Arghbad crater. The option for that night was not "sleep" , but "sleep, together" .

Does that mean what I THINK it means? Has everyone's favorite ship come in?

    Respectfully,

    Brian P.

Does anyone know how to get the pass phrase for the
    mampang vault?

Dug these bad boys up to reference as I play through all four parts! (And by dug up, I pulled them off my bookshelf)

Oh, yes. One final question. Food. I'm playing with
    Y'bran
and my what a useless guide he is. Only heals 2 stamina per request.

So .. how do I get my stamina back quickly? I know there are at least three places that will always serve you a meal -- the tavern east of the square, the food store next to the inner college, and the guard's mess in front of the Doors. But the only person who will sell me a ration is
    Nylock
and she will sell me *one*.
There's no way in heck I'm taking food from Throg's larder, not after we warned so firmly against it in S3

Any other food sources? And what's the best way to heal up a character? In my last game I depended on Courga to build me up at 5 stamina a shot, but that's no longer and option. Am I going to have to spend game days just walking to the monastery, gambling for food money, then walking back to a restaurant to buy it, then finally sleeping somewhere? Or is there a better way?

    Respectfully,

    Brian P.

There are at least two ways.

    1. You need a skullcap for this.
Before entering the vault, go into the west part of mampang where the warehouses are at night. Encounter Ran'ii, and at the first available option read her mind.

    2. You need a holy water for this method.
After entering the vault, fight the first werewolf in the southwestern room and examine his armor afterwards to learn that they are weak at the shoulder clasp. There are other ways to find this weakness as well, but that's the quickest way in the vault.

After you've done that, go up to the northwestern room where a second werewolf is. Attack the shoulder clasp to make the armor fall off and she will revert to human form. Refuse to fight her, and allow her to run off and promptly get killed by a gas trap. Follow after her and cast RES on her. Talk to her, and if you make the right choices she'll tell you what the password is before she dies again.

    Respectfully,

    Brian P.

Those are the only costumes that I've found, too! As for the underground entrance:
Not a sewer, but if you go into a kitchen before entering Mampang proper (run by an enormous goblin) and join his staff as a chef, there's a secret tunnel in the back of the larder that goes underground and under the walls of Mampang!

    About Flanker:
Yup, it means what you think it means! My female character chose every flirtatious option she got leading up to that moment and they sleep together! If you end the game with him alive he's stated to be your "lover" and there's a lot of romantic interaction to be had if you play your cards right. *_* Notably, though, choosing not-romantic dialogue options in that moment where he beds down next to you just leads to "sleep," not "sleep, together," so that conversation can still have a platonic end to the night.

Ahoy! Another beta tester here but it's my first time on TA :)

    Regarding
the spoiler about the warning about Throg's larder,
    I've tried it, and
I'm pretty sure you can take rations from the actual larder -- I haven't had a problem with them. However, if you choose to be a chef in the kitchen before going to the larder, you have the opportunity to cook up some food that might cause some ... problems.

You can get the monk's costume one other way that I know of:
Go to the ruined tower at the beginning, across the first chasm -- the one with the beacon. You'll find a monk's habit that you can put on but it will give you fleas.

    Random thoughts on this:

In the outer courtyard next to the main gate, there are statues.
Touching the DOC statue will heal you
    .

    If you go into the
    TAR
    tower,
touch the black goo, and then wait one or two turns THEN pull away, you will boost max stamina.

If you want more money, there are two ways to to get piles and piles of loot:

    Finish
the vaults to the very end. Move the 'machine' and you'll find the entrance. This gets about 1-200 gold I think and a lot of Blimberry potions. Reach down but don't be greedy! Twice is fine but third time... oooh... nasty!

Second, go to the Room of Doors
in the Western College and open a door at random (but back out) until you get to a dark room with a floating ghost. If you enter, you can loot the tomb for over 400 gold BUT you will be trapped, and must die and cast ZED to escape.

There's a lot of interesting dialogue to be had if you
sleep with him early on, then he attacks you outside the window. It's all very tragic and I liked mining this part to find all the dialogue options.

If you have a mean streak, however, I recommend
doing a die/ZED after playing a character who knows Flanker's waiting by the window as you can then get the drop on him, and knock him out the window without a fight. Haha!

If you thank Yb'ran, he will leave you. Just
    unlock the door
and he will stay. But I don't know what you mean by
without dying...you can escape the cell without killing Jann, but the only path from there is to the library where you either jump to your death or get eaten by the Archmage-goat.
    Or have I missed something?
