If you look through the shield, you will see the item you need to cast the counterspell. Spoiler It's sand, and you need to cast mUD.
I'm sorry, I should have been more specific about which tower I meant. It's the large one with the red roof and an invisible barrier in the middle of the room just north of the Spoiler ROK/dead statues tower (which has a yellow/white roof). I just can't seem to figure out how to get through.
Well, maybe we'll use them only in the "new game plus" then. I talk about the Spoiler Sleeping Ram Use. No, he's just another informer you can send by yourself if you want to.
I tried going to the Spoiler Ram with the Spoiler Golden Egg , but I didn't get any choice to use an object against it, and it killed me.
Blackfaer is correct. The red tower NW of the statue room has Spoiler Wal cast in the middle of it, which can be countered with Spoiler POP . You will need Spoiler pebbles[/spoilers] to cast that -- there are some in the Spoiler POP tower in the eastern inner college, which needs to be countered with WAL in order to traverse safely . Respectfully, Brian P.
How do I get the old men to appear at the tax collectors party? I've tried so many times and they haven't appeared.
I struggled with this for a while myself. These are the steps I believe you need to take: 1. After entering the Treasury building, look at the slime trail and enter the slime room. 2. Look up and notice the glass ceiling. Try to get people's attention. You will see the old man talking to another man. Greet him (he won't hear you) and then throw something at the glass. He will then exchange a pouch with the other man. 3. The door will open into the Mucalytic room. Proceed through the gauntlet. Play to the crowd at every opportunity. 4. Once you're teleported to the party, eat the food and then look at the people. Tell Valignya either "Thank you" or "It was no performance". Instead of following her right away, talk to the other guests first. 5. Go to Valignya's office and talk to her. After she dismisses you, the Old Man flag should pop up.
Finally, after all cutting our way through the idiot peoples of the Shamutanti Hills; after utterly destroying the treacherous city of Kharé; and after wringing the last drops of life from the withering Baklands - finally, all is clear. The helpful fool Archmage, whose only achievement in his whole, worthless life was to do everything necessary to invite us into his home, giving every clue to unlock his most sacred door, who even opened up to us his deepest vaults - finally, he will give back what is rightfully ours. And thus the assassin will assassinate his master, and will have a new master to serve. The minimite - that useless enemy of magic! - will die without hope of flight or freedom. Yet was their fate not known from the start? That the fate of one was to whimper at our flank, a servant of the blade he willingly gave up to us - and that the other was naught but a miniscule bug, whose fate was to be trodden underfoot? Thus these puns reveal the truth about them, and of ourselves. And why was it necessary to destroy Kharé, even down to its last shrine and garden? Because even those locations had given up their secrets to us - for we have become the last altar of the greatest God, an altar on which all living things shall be sacrificed. And we have become the machine that continually casts the spell of the last, hidden garden! And so, the TRUE Archmage, the Anuller of Lands, the destroyer of worlds, is come. The Lord of Sorcery and Counter-Sorcery - we will rule Mampang, with eternal life, as the king of slaves and corpses - as a Grimalkin of ZED! And the gods themselves are now shown in their true portfolios: Courga, god of weakness; Libra, god of stupidity; Gredd, god of peasants; Effe, god of losers; Throff, god of dirt; and ... ... uh, that whale guy, what's his name? Eddie? Yeah, whatever. Eddie: god of rotting fish. And Yb'ran - god of NOTHING. Above them all laughs the true God ... and his anointed one. For, Lo! This is the meaning of the message written before the Throben Doors, two entwined Ss and two Cs: THE SON OF SLANGG WEARS THE CROWN OF COMMAND. And all will bow down and worship him, or writhe in eternal torment throughout his infinite lives. Yea, I bring you tidings of great malice: the Son of Slangg is come!!! BWA HA HA HA HA AHA HA HA Uhh - wait a second are those damn bees still following me??? Ouch! Ouch! Ouch! Ouch! Ah, shit. Ouch! :-(
I keep reading in various posts that at the end you can cast Spoiler zip in order to get to the Spoiler hourglass tower in order to Spoiler break The oven's curse . The problem is I can't figure when or where to do this... Any hints?
I'm afraid you misunderstood. That spell is one option for getting into the hourglass tower, but you can't teleport there at the end of the game. The only way to break the curse at the end of the game, if you did not use the hourglass, is to Spoiler have Yb'ran as your god .
I've never used ZIP to get into the hourglass tower, but as a rule ZIP is a very short-ranged skill; you normally have to be standing right next to something to either teleport into or around it. Respectfully, Brian P.
If you try to enter the hourglass tower simply by walking through the door, you will find yourself outside again. I have always cast Spoiler ZIP at that point to enter. I understand you can also cast Spoiler RES , since it counters the spell that the tower represents. ETA: If you don't know where the hourglass tower is, it is just beyond Spoiler the goblin tower in the western college (which in turn is just past the Sleepless Ram) .
Easter egg ... I have not read this thread from end to end, but haven't seen anyone mention the one color page I've seen in all of book IV ... Not sure how many play throughs I've done at this point, but have only seen it twice, but it has showed up in two different places. At least I had the presence of mind to take a pic the second time!
How to get to throben doors by Birdmen? I've enjoyed the game a lot, but I'm not enjoying it anymore. I finished the game without breaking the hourglass to break the Throben curse. I rewinded to the alley, broke the hourglass, but then I made the capital mistake of letting the Samaritans take me to the summit instead of the Throben doors, where I got to the infamous goat demon ending. Since I had broken the hourglass I rewinded to a spot before entering Mampang. After re-entering Mampang I rushed straight towards the Samaritans of Schinn, but instead of taking me to the Throben doors they take me to the summit (there was no choice to drop me off at the Throben doors), where once again I become enchanted by the Archmage, I get thrown in jail with the Minimite, get the key, climb back up, only to reach the infamous goat demon ending again. Fine, I thought, this is the only way to get the key to get the Minimite again. But when I start over in the alley, I go the same route... and the Birdmen still take me to the summit instead of the Throben doors! Why doesn't this work anymore? This way I can't complete the game getting the true ending. (I know I'm supposed to break the hour glass again before that) I guess I'd be all set if the Samaritans of Schinn take me to the Throben doors. Can you please tell me how to trigger this without having to play half the game over again?
My guess is that you need to learn more about the Throben doors before you get that choice. I have never tried going straight to the Samaritans after entering Mampang. You can also get to the Throben doors without the Samaritans, you understand. You need to get past the guards at the iron door, but there are a few ways to do this. Spoiler 1. If you're dressed as a guard, you can tell them you're the ambassador from Khare. The male will ask for a bribe. You can either give up your crystal orb or incite them to fight each other, then fight the male. 2. You can go through the Vaults and take the elevator to the jail cells. You'll then need to get past Cartoum, which is easy if you have the locket but can also be accomplished with magic. 3. If you open enough doors in the Tower of Doors (just past the Hourlgass tower), you will find one that takes you directly to the base of the citadel.
I could be wrong on this because I'm not in shape to play it, but I *think* all you have to do is simply walk up to the Samaritans room and, when given the option, ask to be taken to the doors instead of to the top of the tower. If that doesn't do it, well, the doors are only about three moves away. All you need to do is get past the guards at the gate. Spoiler A guard or guard captains' uniform should do fine for the purpose Respectfully, Brian P.
