Congratulations!! You're a normal, mortal woman who walked alone and solved the greatest mystery of human kind.

I didn't encounter Throben anywhere except for the side road on the left of the Monastery. Maybe because I converted to an Effe's follower and changed to a monk outfit while I'm inside the Monastery.

About your method, I don't keep the Sun Serpent so I can't try using it to save Flanker. But I didn't know that we can use the spells to save him without the drink. Interesting.

Ps: In case you have the Sun Serpent, try to go to the Tavern in East Mampang at night. Sit on an empty table and you'll see a follower of the Sun Serpent. Maybe there is something you can do to him there.

Thank you Inklefan, your advice was sound!

I was able to complete my no-magic run, apart from a single use of ZED and the DOP at the beginning of book 1 and the North Gate casting in book 2.

    To complete book 4:
Go to the hoofborn village and buy a set of nose plugs for 8 gold.

Next, travel to Mampang, avoiding the crater. Cut the bell pull in the guard's hut to the left of the crater, sneak past the ambush there.

Take the side gate to Mampang. Knock, tell the guards I'm a spy for the archmage, tell them there were seven serpents. Get in.

Walk into the barracks and grab a guard uniform. Into the latrine and grab the key -- that's what I needed the nose plugs for. Without the nose plugs my character flat refuses to mess about in the privy!

At nightfall, go west and spend the night with the guards . The next morning, use the latrine key to open the western gate, then run into Throben and get ZEDDED.

Head East past the square, through the archway, and stash my guard's uniform. Head to the monastery and fill up on cash. Then east to the eastern square, order a meal, and fight the sightmasters.

Then back to the central square to meet the beggar woman, tell her I killed a sightmaster, and thus acquire the potion of dissolution.

This is where I had to use ZED -- the first time, I asked the wrong sequence of questions. It also seems like she has nothing to say about the sightmaster's if you're wearing a guards uniform. So I had to head west, allow myself to get killed by the sleepless ram, until FINALLY she was willing to hand over the thrice-beloved potion!

From there head west into the academy and the very first tower -- the laughing one. Open the bottle of dissolution, then straight out.

East to the eastern part of the academy. Northeast to the illusion room, which I simply ran through. From there to the sad room, which I dragged myself through. Same with the false treasure room -- just keep pushing "leave" until I'm out. Into the resurrection room, where I drank some water and cut down the whale head. Then NE to the far towre, which I simply walked around. NE to the invisible tower, open the potion. South to the nap tower, enter, open the potion, and then just walk through, sleeping twice.

Arrive at the doppelganger room. Talk to him, eventually wind up smashing the mirror. Work through dialog and suggest working together, at which point I was 'ported outside.

To the POP room. Careful throwing of stones and prodding of the floor eventually allowed me to discover a well-worn path, which led through to the next area. From there to the FAL tower, which I simply worked my way across. Finally at the FOF room. Killed the slime eater, forced to dive into the pool, prayed, swam to the other end.

Head west. My guard's uniform was gone, so headeed to the warehouse district and "persuaded" a Captain to donate her uniform. THen straight north from the square in Captain's disguise to the palisade. Over the palisade, go see the Samaritans. They fly me to the Archmage's quarters. Drink the potion, barge straight in, don't waste words; just grab the crown, smash it, then on up to the roof. Wave my sword until Y'bran wakes up and lifts the ZED curse. And so to game end!

    Respectfully,

    Brian P.

Going to the building to the east without a disguise on will get you stopped by a guard from entering.
Chose to charge and you will get yourself killed.

Here's a question on the low key nature of the last section that has been nagging at me:
the ending seems to completely come down to nullifying the influencing power of the crown, which as we know is a very specific power comprising of three spells. Without the crown's power, when we meet him, the Archmage seems completely powerless and does nothing to defend himself.

But... what about Archmage Goat? Where does this power go?

I think that's all the Crown too. With the crown, he can simply order you to throw your sword away, prevent you from casting, and prevent you from praying. It's an instant-win button for him. Without the crown, I suspect that final thing would be a very tough fight, but by no means impossible. We've fought things like that in the Fighting Fantasy series before, after all.

If you get one of the endings, I think it's spelled out for you.

Valaquesh, once out of her prison, will tell us that the 'Archmage' wasn't much better than an acolyte who happened to stumble on a trick book, with which he imprisoned Valaquesh. He's used the Crown to run things ever since. So he's really not "all that" as a great and powerful wizard.

Not to mention, he isn't a young man when you meet him. If the crown doesn't work, he's within the range of your sword; he may not have time to cast before you can kill him. That's why he's careful not to make any hostile moves at any point during your interview until you are thoroughly under the power of the crown.

That's doubly the case if you have Flanker with you.

    Respectfully,

    Brian P.

I have definitely visited her while wearing the guard outfit, and had no trouble getting the potion. There is some discussion earlier in the thread about how many questions you can ask her, as there seems to be a limit.

In addition to Brian's answer, I think the
    Archmage-goat
only manifests after the Archmage has bent your will to the Crown. That was the bargain he made to ensure victory, allowing the
demon to take over his body
once he had achieved his goal.

    Ram song

I found the sleepless ram song
in the guards cafeteria...that's not the right designation, I'll look it up. By the fire is a guy singing a song
    . That's the one!

I don't think this is it. Meeting her there seems randomized as in some of my games she appears and others not.

In fact quite a few things seem randomized such as item drops which also have differed wildly between games or meeting characters
    like rani in the vaults

I have met her without fail if I cross the Whispering Bridge, always right after battling the Lynch bug. If I go down into the ravine, I meet her in seemingly random spots or not at all.

You need the spells that counter the Crown, which is made of a
Ring of Bone, Several Jewels of Gold, and a Cloth Skullcap
    which are the spells
    gOD,TEL, and KID
, so the counterspells for that are
    NAp, dIm, and YAZ
    , which are in

    this part is a puzzle don't cheat-->
The tower where you fall asleep(clock noises), the invisible tower(invisible on the map too), and the first tower in the west college, where you act like a child/laugh a lot.

Sorry I Should have been clearer. I mean meeting her in the
    dome
seems randomized. Outside of mampang she always appears

Also how do you find alizi? I find her in the
    tower of doors
but can't find her in the alleys afterwards

I asked myself the same question when I did mine. I didn't want to lose that precious and heavy tooth ! (Even if in the end I didn't use it...). I managed to swim to the time serpent island by getting rid of my swords instead. Then I used the whistle to summon the ferryman and didn't have to swim again after that.

As I got the assassin's sword at the end, it seems a good deal.

By the way : I just started again from my game 2 save to see how the story evolves when you don't save khare. I thought I would have to get stucked with Loragh but I just opened the north gate with the spell and left straight away without waiting for the goblins. Loragh never appeared and I was able to keep courga. Has anyone done the same ? (I had read that if you let khare be destroyed Loragh would come and haunt you)
I am now in game 4 and will see what it changes (no Vik and no werewolves in the vault ?).

I was certain she always appeared
    in the dome
if I met her earlier. Does it still work as a rewind point if she does not?

You will see her as you leave
the house in the alleys, if you stay and talk to the owner
, but she has a different name now. She will reveal her identity to you the next time you sleep.

    you mean
    molka's house?
I've been there but I don't see her when I leave nor does she appear when I sleep. I know she's in there because one of the scavengers by the fire talks about her.

You haven't cast ZEd in between finding her in the Tower of Doors and visiting Molka's house, have you? That's the only thing I can think of that would prevent her showing up.

I've had a similar problem, actually. Once I left and Molka said
"It's okay, little Briarpatch. You can come out now"
but after that I didn't sleep, and I went and died at the Throben Doors on accident. Since then, every attempt to talk to Molka has ended with no message about
    briarpatch
.(even with a rewind to outside mampang and/or a full reset through the options menu) The only differences I can think of are the first go-round I gave her the brass ring, she walked in on me stealing(I accidentally went downstairs still holding the little box, I guess), and I was wearing the captain's outfit, but I don't think that's my problem.

Also, the one time I got that message I think I went to the house before the DOPE tower, but I could be mis-remembering.
