Oh Lord, that bit just destroyed me.
It was a nice, if kind of heartbreaking touch that your last dance with Flanker followed the same script as your first fight.
But the bit that made me properly sad was when the Analander had a dream in which
Flanker says: "I will take your hand."
I guess he did take it :(

I haven't encountered this figure myself, but
could it be the female goblin you can seduce in Throg's kitchen?

Seems way too melodramatic for that. And I'm pretty sure I've experienced the event without
    seducing Filk
    . I'll quickly check.

EDIT: Yup, the mysterious figure can be experienced without stepping foot in
    Throg's Kitchen
. Also, the mysterious figure refers to you as
Analander, so can't be anyone from your pre-adventure past, or anyone from Mampang. The game refers to the small figure as 'she', so can't be Flanker, or Vancass.
And obviously it would be a bit creepy if the figure professing undying love was
    Aliizi
    .

I don't think this can be her because
    (1) Filk says she's too scared to go into Inner Mampang and (2) My character would recognise her voice, surely?

    Dissolution

    Potion of Dissolution question:
    (Major spoilers)
The Archmage indicated that the crown was enchanted with Illusion, Worship, and Mental Insight, so I added dIM, NAp, and fIX to the potion of dissolution. But then when Flanker drank the potion, he went on to slaughter me. Not sure if I delivered the potion incorrectly, or if the Archmage lied about the enchantments, or if I misidentified the counters, or if the order of collection matters, or if I goofed when collecting them.
    Any ideas?

The correct spells are dIM (counters illusion/KID), NAp (counters worship/gOD), and YAP (counters mental insight/TEL). The order does not matter, only the spells.

    Hint:
You are two-thirds of the way there! The order doesn't matter, but you misidentified one of the counters.

    Bigger hint:
Look very carefully at the descriptions of the crown as it is made of the three objects needed for its spells. This will indicate to you what spell you've misidentified
    .

    Most of the way there:
The one you've got wrong is FIX which is the counter to HOW. There is another spell of mental insight used to see into others' minds.

    Total spoiler:
    The three
spells used by the crown are GOD KID and TEL
    ; counters are
    NAP DIM and YAZ
    .

Question about a bridge at the beginning:

You can get Colletus to allow you to cross by making a promise to him about freeing him from his curse after you get the Crown. Anyone know of a way to keep that promise?

Oh embarrassingly I did this over a month ago and completely forgot I'd met
    the gambling man
    !

Did you know, you can meet
    Vancass
    again? If you promise your
    leg
    to
    Vancass
in S3, he will show up in your dreams threatening to reclaim it in S4.
If you die outside of battle (eg, by getting gassed in the Vaults), he will often show up to chop off your leg as you die!

However, he will save your life at one point --
I found that if you get captured by the guards below the Throbben Doors, Vancass shows up as you're about to be beheaded and if you plead with him he'll do a deal to save your life.
I need to replay as I'm not sure how I triggered it.

You know, I don't have any cloud saves where I encounter him; I always slide down the ruined bridge or use one of the other ways across the mountains. Maybe someday I will go back.

Interesting. The only time I was almost beheaded I was saved by
the male werewolf I met in the Vaults.

Thanks for identifying the misstep! What a beautiful ending to a wonderful series.

    I'm trying to
get DIM with the Potion of Magic Dissolution. is there a tower in the Old College where I can get it, or is there another place?

    Pretty there's one in the
West College. One of the first you come to.

    Was that the one
where you go in and become fascinated with the room? I couldn't decide if that was DIM or something else.

    EDIT:
I think what happened was that I thought that room was GOD and moved on, then forgot that that room existed when I found the actual GOD room.

Hello! First post here. Loved the series back in the eighties, and love even more the enrichment, both visually and story-wise.

I have done two playthroughs so far, and I am kind of bummed about the second:

    1)
I was carried back to Analand by the Goldcrest Eagles and saved Jann, but unfortunately Flanker died. I still had the curse of Throben, whose horror came clearly when I remembered having seen in one of the towers a glimpse of the future when I was old and my daughter was massaging my shoulders. The dialogue with the Archmage the second time after I died and cast ZED was hilarious

    2)
This time I smashed the hourglass and in the DOP tower I kept on opening doors until I got to inside the gates, near the Throben doors. Skipped pretty much half of the game, then met Flanker, and decided to try some different dialogue. He cut my hand and my fate was pretty much sealed. I died of hunger in the tower with the Minimite, unable to cast spells and knowing that the armies of evil were destroying the Old World. And of course I could not rewind!

Now can't wait to find out about the other endings. Possibilities are almost endless...!

An observation. Compared to the gamebook, I am slightly disappointed on the changes
to all the key characters in the Fortress
. I have been able to finish the game twice but yet
have to meet key characters such as Naggamanteh and Peewit Croo
    , or other
minor ones like Ridd the Gnome
    . The changes to
Valygnia as a .1% percenter of a fantasy world
    are interesting, but
she can be bypassed as well without any harm, and her information is not really vital
    .

Every time I have met instead with
    Cartoum
, it felt rushed and inconsequential, and it was solved by
mentioning Celestine, who really had no story I can recall of
    .
Cartoum was even mentioned in the first ending I got as having taking over Mampang!

    Help please!

Hey guys, simple question here.. I think I have every spell figured out needed to open the doors, but for the life of me, I can't find any more stone dust. Can anybody tell me where I can find some? Thanks!

I'm pretty sure you can get some in the Tower of Corpses. Also, (MAJOR SPOILER AHEAD, don't check unless you have the solution to the doors)
    you shouldn't need it.

    If you haven't found
Naggamanteh, then you are not looking hard enough (you can even get some info on him in part 3).

Naggamanteh is definitely in the game :)
Check around the palisade before entering the inner fortress/guard barracks of Mampang!
