More details on this coming soon, but needless to say we're stoked as hell about this- http://egmnow.com/ If you're really young or not from the USA and don't know about EGM's legacy as an amazing video game magazine- http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Electronic_Gaming_Monthly
Congratulations to all the TouchArcade staff. It not only shows how far iPhone/touch has come as a platform, but how far this site has come in terms of being the "go to" site for delivering news, previews and reviews for said platform.
It kind of sounds like they're looking to get EGMi on tablet devices, but I really don't know anything about concrete plans for it. If the iPad turns out to be huge, I really can't imagine them not having some kind of iPad viewer app. We'll see. Once the first issue gets out, and everyone at EGM isn't running around like a maniac we'll know a lot more.
If nothing else it could be an expanded version of whatever articles and features TA is bring to EGM. It's perfect since it's distributed to people who are your target market. Plus you can embed videos right into the articles which would be awesome!
EGM was a good magazine until they folded. I had just renewed my sub and a month later they were done. So, I am guessing this is part of the online division, like 1up?
Well, there are two parts to EGM- EGMi which is the online component where we'll have bloggy type of editorial pieces and other time sensitive stuff, and the print edition of the magazine which will include more in-depth articles and things that don't matter if they don't show up on the newsstand for a couple weeks. It's all pretty preliminary, the magazine business as a whole is designed around the pace of console games which is glacial compared to the iPhone. I imagine there will be some growing pains as we get everything figured out.
Congratulations TA, this is really epic news. I grew up with EGM, it was by far the best gaming magazine when I was a kid. I can remember re-reading articles dozens of times, and staring at the same screenshots over and over while I anxiously awaited a game to be released. I still have every screen of Mario 64 burned into my brain I poured so obsessively over them. Back before you could follow along with dev blogs, or get updates online the second they happen. Back when you had to actually be patient. The info you got in the rags was sometimes the only info you'd get before the game came out. EGM really declined in quality during the last couple console generations until finally drying up. It's like seeing a part of your childhood die, so the fact that they are trying to reboot such an amazing brand and using high quality talent is extremely exciting. TA being involved makes it that much sweeter. I can't wait to see what direction this all goes in. Great job TA staff and congrats again!
