That's ridiculous. As far as streaming goes, Sony is winning right now, being (by far) the most popular platform for Netflix. How does the announcement that the next console will focus more on sharing and streaming affect that in any way?

Are they implying the next Xbox will be a full set-top box? Cause that's what it sounds like, and that's the number one thing I've been speaking out against regarding the next gen. The Xbox 360 dashboard is absolutely horrible since they started focusing on media other than games. It gets constant criticism from people saying they don't care about Game of Thrones or Axe deodorant, they just want to play games. To be honest, both companies seem to have the idea that people are after a single box that does everything, but it's not strictly true. We use it when it's available for the convenience, but we never asked for it to happen and we certainly don't want the core aspect of -games- consoles to take second place on the priority list.

Taking too much focus away from gaming will be a lose for either company, but Sony seem to be digging into it even further with the awesomely nerdy game share features. This is the right direction for a games console to go in my opinion.

  2. That article is pure gold. Isn't a lot of content on the 360 (including Netflix) locked behind the XBL Gold paywall?

Yep. Gotta pay twice for any video streaming on 360. Really, really stupid. Almost anything that utilizes an online service on the 360 requires XBL.

  4. Looks pretty cool, like all the little fires everywhere. And the slo mo mode is cool.

We gotta get a developer to work on getting a ps4 controller to work with ios, cause it looks sweet. That touchscreen is cool too.

    Look out your window.
I'm not so sure about the touch screen, because of their utilizing it portly on the vita. Whole reason I didn't get a vita was the touch screens.

    Play station 4?

Cool another chance for real hackers to rip credit card information.

    Good play Sony.

Oh pur-lease, don't intentionally make yourself out to be a moron. Anybody can get hacked.

Sony spent millions on upgrading their security after the breach happened, hired some of the top security tech guys in the business and now likely have a far more secure network than either Microsoft or Nintendo does. Oh, and how many people have you actually heard from who had their credit cards/bank accounts compromised? Didn't the hackers take info from a few hundred thousand people? It was probably all encrypted and useless to anyone.

They're gonna get a ton of hate for this, but I can understand why they might need it. The cost of running the whole share system and giving people the ability to instantly stream any game in the store (possibly including a whole PS1/2/3 back catalog) is going to be huge for Sony. I really like the planned services though, far, far more than I ever liked Xbox Live's perks, so I would definitely consider paying for it if necessary.

My question is what happens to PS+? Is that stuck on the PS3? If so I'll be hesitant to extend my subscription beyond the year I have now.

No fat sweaty fingers here. I've been using sony controller ever since i got my PS1, followed by ps2 and ps3. Only non sony console and controller I've ever had is the 360 which i got about a year ago. So almost a decade of experience with PS controller and still I loved the 360 controller. The list of problems with 360 controller start and end with sucky dpad. PS controller, its pretty much the opposite. Other than dpad, everything else is way inferior in comparison.

And no Xbox fanboyism here. Only played two games with the 360 controller. Got it for kinect mainly and that's what it gets used for mostly. Kids absolutely love it. But I still prefer the PS3 even with the shitty controller. PS+ with all those free games is just too freakin awesome for casual gamers like me.

Why? I tried it last month and I loved it. My 55" tv is no match for the 133" screen. Granted I'm more of a casual gamer. I didn't find any issues with it except for the fact that games running on 720p or lower resolutions don't look as good. But that's something I expect ps4 will have no issues with. Will be installing the projector in my room in a couple of months with a motorised screen. Don't think I'll bother with playing games on the tv anymore.

I dunno. I personally find that if you're used to one, you'll dislike the other (obviously, that doesn't apply for you). I like the PS3 controller over the Xbox 360 controller, because the analogs have much higher sensitivity and not much resistance (I actually used to hate that about the PS2 controller, and I loved the Xbox controller- I played a lot more Xbox than PS2 last generation). I also prefer the skinnier design, the L1 and R1 buttons, the D-pad, and the fact that the controllers have built in rechargable batteries. Going from one to the other is hard for me, especially playing the same game on both platforms.

I wouldn't say everything else is inferior. The DS3's face buttons feature pressure sensitivity which I think is missing completely on the 360's controller. The built in battery is a complete miracle compared to the debacle of the 360's solution. I've personally been in the middle of a Halo multiplayer game, first on the scoreboard and then suddenly had to run to the other side of the house to find some batteries and replace them. Not to mention the fact the battery compartment itself is quite poorly made and people often report issues of the batteries losing their connection and cutting the controller off. And let's not forget just how crippling that d-pad issue actually is. It's flawed to the point that it will get you killed in games because it's so easy to perform the wrong action. That's a serious issue for a console controller.

Besides, 360 controllers do actually suffer problems with their directional sticks as well. In games with little to no dead zone assigned to them, even brand new controllers straight out of the box can cause a directional command to be triggered permanently. I once tried playing Zuma but couldn't, because my ship-thingy wouldn't stop moving left. So I spent a bunch of money on a new controller, threw in Burnout Paradise and what do you know, I started drifting to the left. I've never encountered this with a Dualshock.

As I said before, the biggest complaint for DS3 was always the triggers not having enough movement and curving the wrong way, which has now been addressed. The second biggest was that the sticks could be slippery, which has also been addressed. Sony has clearly paid attention to their customers and even the people who aren't their customers and just like to bitch about them on internet forums.

    Quick question

If this console will have PC level quality?

When and if Half life 2 episode 3/ half life 3 comes, would a version be made for ps4?

  17. Define PC-level quality. A high-end PC would easily surpass the PS4 in terms of specs.

I wouldn't bet on it. If HL2E3/HL3 is ever released, it'll most likely be Steam exclusive.

It amazes me how many people keep buying Call of Duty each year. It's the same crap over and over again. It's just one big map pack and the online community for CoD is the worst community in existence.
