Wow, that is kind of expensive, but man, I am curious to see how awesome the games are. And it is in our best interest for it to be successful, this will also make developers take the ipad more seriously with console like games. So I look forward to the completition, the more gaming platforms, the better games for everyone as far as I am concerned. But this pricepoint is too much for my blood especially with games that will probably be very expensive.
Am I the only one who thinks the graphics and gameplay look hardly improved? I suppose I'll see when I actually play it, but I wasn't particularly impressed by it. I think killzone 4 was a bad choice to show off the new graphics because its in the future, which means we can't really relate to it.
What? That's an interesting way to interpret it... Of course, affordable to a Sony exec isn't the same thing as affordable for the average consumer. Sony seems to at least know that $599 is too much though. Edit: On backward compatibility:
The trailer for the new inFAMOUS was made with the actual games engine- it wasn't done with CG. From Brian Fleming of Sucker Punch on the PlayStation Blog: "Of course, we are creating all these characters and locations at a remarkable level of detail made possible by PS4. In fact, this trailer was produced in-house using our game engine can you tell were having fun with the new GPU, tools, and our new VFX system?" The jump is fairly significant IMO, but not nearly as significant a jump as the one from PS2 to PS3. Not even as significant as the jump from PS1 to PS2. Main differences are- 1080p standard resolution, and graphics more comparable to CG, utilizing many of the same technologies.
The uhh... whatever the hell that Square Enix thing was, is also in-engine. They said it's a tech demo and not a game, but that thing pushes some serious graphics.
SE's Luminous Engine is indeed a graphical beast. Too bad SE showed the exact same Agni's Philosophy tech demo that was behind closed doors at last year's E3 though.
Looks interesting, ill buy it for sure . Only console I dont think ill get this gen is gonna be wii u. But that could change, I said the same about the original wii and there it is collecting dust like a pro. Im sure the hardware is going to be top notch as sony usually does that but im hoping they put some serious time in the os and software because right now eves using the store feels like a chore unlike something like say, the appstore which compels you to spend like a madman.
I must say it's nice to be able to discuss it somewhere with other people who are interested. In most places across the internet there are annoying little trolls just waiting to pounce as soon as you mention the PS4. I have no respect for people who conjure up ridiculous opinions out of thin air about something they have no experience with.
QFT. This happen more with young'uns that have access to only one console/handheld and feel the need to defend it/trash every other system as to feel good about their purchase. This is my opinion only of course, but I do feel what you wrote. I for one enjoy most releases because it gives me something new to try/buy/collect if I like and if not at least its something that contributes to the gaming scene. About the PS4 well, im super excited as it does look really nice. Im not loving the touchscreen on the pad though, im feeling devs will feel the need o use it as the dreaded rear touchpad of the vita and will force it on games.
DualShock 4 and Killzone Shadow Fall was shown on Jimmy Fallon last night: Subscribe to the TouchArcade YouTube channel Still no sign of the actual console itself.
I'm definitely interested and will get one, but not at release. I'm sure it's going to be very expensive and I have a lot to play on the PS3 yet. Plus both our TVs are 720p. Once I have a 1080p set it will certainly get more interesting. I do like the improvements they seem to have made over the PS3, though. So either way I'll get one, but likely not until a price drop (unless they will somehow manage to make it inexpensive at release).
I'm thinking of updating my TV also for my next console I've got a slight temptation to try an projector instead but I might regret that if I do. Also won't be buying a PS4 at launch either as tempted as I may be mainly because I think it's wise to wait a few months and make sure they don't have some crazy flaw like the RROD.
Yeah, I've had a go at setting up a projector for gaming before, it's not fun. You have to spend a lot of money before you can even start doing justice to HD gaming and even then it's a pain to set up and you'll likely suffer in terms of sharpness, contrast, etc.
Yeah I have my doubts about a projector for gaming but at the same time the thought of a whole wall as a screen does make me want one I probably will just go for a good HD TV. On another Note apparently Sony has lost the console war to Microsoft http://www.wired.co.uk/news/archive/2013-02/22/sony-video-streaming I think that's the most blatant piece of evidence Microsoft pays for articles I've ever seen and I'm going to remove Wired from my RSS feeds just based on it.
I'll definitely be picking up a PS4 at some stage, just not launch. As much as I love my Wii U, my PS3 is still my go to console because I've got way more games for it. I'll probably wait a year or so before picking up the PS4, by that time the library of games will be better and it might have come down in price a little (that's what I did for the PS3). Definitely intrigued to see what Microsoft has in the works, but I doubt I'll pick it up, I prefer Sony's exclusives.
