You mean the PC version? You're right, gaming computers are way too expensive for me. ...Although if the PS3/PS4 versions do not have always-online DRM, they automatically become superior in my eyes.
Actually I just meant PS3 vs PS4. I've never been too concerned about PC versions of games, but consoles I follow. My Facebook feed has become flooded with comments on articles saying "PC master race!" but if anything, this presentation just showed me why I don't have to bother with PC gaming for another 6-7 years.
Apparently aftter they showed off watch dogs, ubisoft revealed it was also going to be on wii u which caused that to trend worldwide. Sony execs went ballistic from reports from people there.
From what was shown, I'm pretty impressed. Will wait for more info before I get all hyped up- definitely excited for it though. New inFAMOUS game is IMO the best reveal- really excited to see more, and the fact that it's taking place in Seattle is awesome- I've had enough of New York, Chicago, and LA in games (not to say Seattle isn't in any games).
Alright...here is my opinion...where do I begin? First of all - specs. I don't really understand the specs that much, but I can tell they are pretty amazing. A 1.84 Teraflop CPU is really fast. The 8GB of RAM does seem necessary with the vast size of the games, plus background downloads, screen recording, social networking and all the other stuff.I wonder why they are still using a blu-ray drive though. The graphic power of the games alongside with massive content can easily challenge a normal blu-ray disc...maybe even in later years, where graphic engines are way more advanced, a dual blu-ray disc might not be enough. 2nd - The Controller. It does kind of look like someone took the back pad of a PS Vita and placed it in the middle of the controller. Also - where is the start and select button. If you have to use the touch pad for that, then people will keep on accidentally triggering them in the game. Also, the share button does seem kind of unnecessary to me. Couldn't you use a shortcut, like double-tapping the home-button? The LED does intrigue me a little though. It's great that it can easily show you your in-screen info through lights. 3rd - Games. A console can give me all of the graphics they wish, but unless they have games to back it up, I won't buy it. Knack=This game did catch my attention. It's nothing like anything that I can think of, so one I'll look forward to Infamous Second Son=It's Infamous...need I say more? Killzone Shadow Fall=The story that the Helghats' are just fighting for existance now is not really that good for me. This is (in shooting) game number 5 in the series, and the repetitive series bores are starting to here. I do hope that this doesn't get hit with the FPS woe, of bland story and levels with a sense of deja vu, as it is a good series. Drive Club=I know that the concept for this gamr has existed for about 10 years now, it's just that it feels like to long, especially with games like Need For Speed: Shift. Thats another point - the whole driving in real-world places and a couple of images I've seen of the game makes it seem like a Shift clone. The game could have easily worked 5 or 6 years ago, and the game would have been praised for originality, but now I'm not so sure All of the Ports= To me, if you have the original console it appeared on or unless there is some soft of exclusive content, there is no real point to get the ports. To me, apart from graphics, Diablo 3 seems to be the only one that would get extra content. Finally, I just have to point out the Wii U similarities. First of all, the ability to play PS4 games on the PS Vita. That is a perfect clone of the Wii U tablet there, and the Wii U tablet costs way less. Secondly, the new social interface does seem to me like an advanced version of Miiverse. Finally, the suspending games feature was also on the Wii U. These differences may be few, but still But yea, thats my opinion. Go ahead, flame me, block me, whatever. It's my opinion and I wanted to share it. Sorry if the facts are wrong, I'm not really that smart. My guess for the cost of the console, with all of the features and previous history, is $400-500 at launch, just for the smallest size model. The sad thing is that everyone is now going to constantly bully Nintendo now, just because the Wii U isn't as powerful. I could start a massive rant about the hatred now, but I'll control myself. All in all, I like what I see now and I look forward to what happens in the next few months
The Option button does the same thing that the start and select buttons usually do. It kind of makes sense too, since very few games really use the select button. The PSP had a Remote Play function, although that was only limited to the OS and a few pieces of software. The Vita supports more games (including a few PS3 games) via Remote Play, but it's still an extremely limited selection. You can easily argue that Sony had the idea before Nintendo did though. I agree with you about the games though. I didn't see anything that particularly interested me besides the new Infamous and Deep Down. I'm willing to bet the console won't be cheap either given those specs.
I don't think there's been much word on what blu-ray discs it'll read, but they theoretically go up to 128GB for a quad-layer disc. Either way, most games barely reach 10GB right now, and that's not even half of a single-layer. I wasn't too impressed by inFamous without any in-game action. It means about as much to me as the Square Enix guy did when he said "BTW Final Fantasy is coming. Bye!". Without some real footage or info on the gameplay, trailers mean practically nothing. Killzone was a little better, but graphics alone won't make it good. KZ2 was a disappointment and KZ3 was a step down from that, so the IP isn't doing too well judging by the evidence. I'd like to see them bring it back to life though. I was excited by Watch Dogs, because come on... look at it. And Drive Club brings out the car nut in me... it's all about the details on those sweet, sweet machines. That said, it also lacked in gameplay somewhat. We saw some nice in-engine footage, but not enough to make desicions by. I don't think it looked Shift-like at all as I don't consider Shift to be a simulation game (pretty much only Forza and GT in that race currently) and this appeared to lean on the sim side of things. I'm desperate for another good sim to come along though, so Drive Club could potentially be the killer app for me.
I'm pretty happy they didn't overdo the streaming thing as a lot of the rumours were suggesting we'd be treated to the equivalent of onlive consoles, I'm pretty pleased to see that Blueray is on there as I don't want to be downloading huge 20gb games. Still my big question hasn't been answered yet and whether I ever buy one hinges on it, what kind of crazy DRM scheme is it going to use and can I live with it. The fact I already have the Vita is definitely edging me in the PS4 direction though.
I'm kind of disappointed by the lack of BC. I mean, I didn't expect it, but still... Dunno what's going to happen to my PS3 if/when I get the PS4. Also, it's confirmed that used games are not going to be blocked- http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2013-02-21-sony-tells-eurogamer-playstation-4-will-not-block-used-games
You mean in terms of blocking used games? According to Eurogamer it doesn't: http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2013-02-21-sony-tells-eurogamer-playstation-4-will-not-block-used-games But of course developers will probably continue to utilize online access codes at their own discretion.
Thanks for the info ironically I just read the same thing on the verge Have to say the PS4 is so far looking very good I'll definitely be keeping an eye on it as details come through.
Yeah, it's got me interested. I'll wait to see what MS have up their sleeve, I suspect they're all in conference right now trying to think of ways to make their announcement more spectacular. It's really down to reviews though, all we've got so far is Sony's word and while I've liked all of their consoles to date, it's not as though they'd be open about any negative aspects of the PS4.
Yes! The world's been waiting for this! I probably will not buy this on the first few months after its released, but eventually i'll get to it
Personally I've always felt Playstation had the best controller. Best D-Pad hands down and it's not even a close discussion. Best size and weight. Perfect analog stick placement. It's all opinion and preferance but that's mine. Watch Dogs looked awesome I'm pretty excited for that game. I personally never understood how people invested so much/put so much weight into ps3-ps vita remote play capabilities, it just never made sense to me. I always looked at it as "hey it's this thing we can "kinda" do now, but to be honest with you the ps4 is what this is really meant for" and I'll never understand how that thought didn't dawn on more people. I also thought it was kinda funny when the guy from Square came out and anounced there would be an anouncement at E3, it was just akward and kinda made me laugh. Overall I liked what I saw.
Overall, the conference got me more hype for watch dogs then it did for the ps4. Still though, I'm kinda digging the new controller. I know a lot of people are hating on it, but I think it's nice.
Me too, watchdogs is gonna be awesome, although so are the other games, and so is the ps4, which will hopefully be an instabuy, depending on price. Controller was weird to me at first, but it's growing on me.
