LBP on PS3 is a million times better.

Since LBP PSP was designed by Sony Cambridge instead of the original designers, Media Molecule, it just doesn't have the same feel....

    Also, no online/local multiplayer! BOO!

And CDubby, WhyTH do you have that in your sig? I never said that.

    Why so curious?
    Need some recommendations

Hey guys, I just bought a PSP (got the Gran Turismo bundle). I was never into gaming until I got my iPod Touch about a year ago, so I'm practically a "noob" when it comes to the world of hardcore/dedicated gaming. I like playing racing (love Real Racing and the 2 NFS games) and sports games (Tiger Woods PGA, FIFA and so on) on my iPod Touch. With that in mind I would be grateful if I could get some opinions from you veteran PSP owners on the following questions:

    1. What's the "best" racing game for the platform? Like I said, I really like the 2 NFS games and Real Racing. Are their (NFS) PSP versions at least comparable or hugely better in terms of fun-factor, graphics, length of gameplay etc? I got the Gran Turismo bundle expressly for the racing game, though I must say I'm not very impressed with it..... yet.

    2. Is there a major difference b/w games released this year, say FIFA 10 or Tiger Woods 10 , and games released a year or 2 ago, say FIFA 09 or Tiger Woods 09? If there isn't I would rather buy the earlier versions to save money. I don't think I'm ready yet- or more like ever will be- to pay $35+ for a video game.

    3. Is Gods of War as good as they say? Will I like it if I didn't much like Gameloft's Hero of Sparta on my iPod Touch? GOW seems to be one of the most highly rated/recommended games in many PSP forums, and it is relatively cheap compared to a lot of PSP games, so I want to give it a shot.

    Thanks. :)

Gran Tourismo is a racing sim, NFS is an arcade racer. If you pull more towards the arcade style gameplay I can higly reccomend the following: Ridge Racer, Burnout Legends, Outrun 2006, Wipeout Pure & Wieout Pulse.

Thanks for the recommendations. I've heard and read good things about Ridge Racer and Burnout Legends; so both are definitely on my "To buy" list. Outrun 2006 seems like (based on youtube videos) I would enjoy it as well. Not sure about the Wipeout games as I didn't much like similar games on my iPod Touch.

Trust me on this, there is not another anti-gravity racing game that even comes close to Wipeout. Not even Nintendo's F-Zero series. Wipeout HD on PS3 is made up of the two PSP ones and it's probably my favorate racing game of all time.

I've generally stayed away from the PSP scene ever since the iPod Touch came out (most of the games that were out when I was interested in the PSP were lackluster, but I might just have to hop back on the bandwagon with how much better the games are getting), but I think I can answer number two for you.

Sports games that come out in later years generally only add updated rosters and a few minor upgrades to the gameplay. Meaning, you'll get the current players and a few extra features to play around with.

If those aren't important to you, just buy one of the older copies. It's basically the same experience, except a few players might be missing or added that aren't currently on the team, and you might not be able to use a certain feature.

Thanks, that's basically what I was hoping to hear. The minor upgrades you mentioned aren't that big of a deal to me. I will go ahead and buy the older versions. I noticed most of the older versions can be bought on ebay for less than $10. :D

Spamcan, I'll give Wipeout a shot if I can find one for under $10.

So should I pick this up tomorrow off craigslist. PSP-3001, Custom FW, 8 gig memory stick, monster hunter and dissidea for $150. I feel like its a deal, I remember it being tough finding the 3000 series that were capable of custom FW.
I feel 150 is high, but I love having the emulators.

Gaming essentials that have earned a permanent place on my PSP's memory stick.

NesterJ - One of the best NES emulators I've seen on any platform, it even has in game FF and RW

SNES9X - It's not 100% perfect but for the most part sound and speed issues are negligible

Jumping Flash! - This is the first PSX game I ever got (Nov 11th, 1995) ripped the ISO from that disc

I.Q. Mania - A massively underrated puzzle game series that only saw one release outside of Japan. The PSP version is a sort of "best of" version containing content from all the PSX releases. Imported and ripped the ISO of this one too.

Lumines - One of the games I got when I imported my PSP, this one still holds up and the ISO is very tiny. ;)

Other emulators and games are swapped out often, I also have a decent sized collection of both US and JAP games and UMD movies.
