who said they were hackers... nah who am i kidding, but really, I want to sync my PSN and Steam so I can play Portal 2 on my Mac!
No one said it's been compromised, could just be a typical DDoS attack. In fact if it had been compromised we'd probably know about it by now.
One thought I've had is it has something to do with Steam and Portal 2, the hackers may have gone through Steam and that might be a problem. I also wonder if Sony might give us some PS Store $ or a DL game for the time we waited while it was down.
I've seen a few rumours that suggest some people were getting around the payment system altogether on PSN through some bug I've no clue if this is true or not but it stands to reason if it was Sony would take the servers offline themselves until they had a solution. More likely though If they were actually hacked they must not have a clue how and how badly and I'd think would want to stay offline until they knew how to prevent it. I think the length of time they have been down points towards them not being able to figure it out. Bottom line credit card information probably is at a big risk but it depends on the motivation of the hacker/ hackers I've worked for quite a big online shopping site before and I know they didn't bother encrypting any customer details the real question is did Sony. Even if they did encrypt it also depends on the method as rainbow tables can be used to crack some common types reasonably quickly although others can be pretty much uncrackable with current systems. I have real mixed feelings about Sony myself in general I really like their consoles but hate the company for the things it does.
Just found this from February.. "According to the PSN hacker's Intel, your credit card details are sent to Sony as unencrypted text files, while Sony itself keeps detailed records on your every move. He claims that Sony knows what controller you're using, what's plugged into the PS3's USB ports, and even what television you have." Guess that answers that question..
Actually, when I woke up on Thursday, I couldn't log in. So I'll say between late at night Wednesday/morning of Thursday.
"I'm not gonna stand for this. Well I'm sitting down so I'm not standing AM I?!" Funny stuff, but true.
This is amazing. Also, hilariously enough I was returning some crap to Wal-Mart this weekend and stood in line behind someone who was returning their PS3 because it "Couldn't get online."
