There seem to be so many levels that one run takes forever. And the level design is weird because you can't see enemies because it all happens way too fast. I know that is what sonic is all about but it's not really enjoyable for me nightc1 Well-Known Member Oct 19, 2012 4,362 0 0 AL #8 nightc1, Mar 15, 2013 Seems like there are hidden emeralds to find and stuff. So it's got exploration too. I typically just play at my own pace with sonic platformers rather than try to get through as quick as possible or with any score in mind. On the plus side, rings are pretty plentiful and there's no IAP to buy more. If you don't like Sonic games it's easy to pass on this, for anyone else, It's about as good as it gets for a Sonic platformer on iOS. Gunlock Well-Known Member Dec 13, 2010 472 0 16 #9 Gunlock, Mar 15, 2013 Sonic CD is all about level memorization. I discovered the beauty of Sonic CD when I completely changed the way I played the game. The posts below are from the main thread, explaining in 100% what Sonic CD is all about. I just hope they will add widescreen support someday, playing the game with black borders on the screen right now is really uncomfortable. Nevertheless - a steal for a buck if you don't have it yet. Pretty much like one of the old sonic games of the way past like maybe on the genesis. Not the prettiest gameplay but the most faithful to the original. Plays great on my new ipad and hdmi. Highly recommended! New ipad screenshot attached. Llamaentity Well-Known Member Feb 4, 2013 94 0 0 #13 Llamaentity, Mar 15, 2013 Pinball is the one annoying part in the game, IMO. Other than that, I believe this game has some of the most amazing and complex level design of any 2D platformer. Really, really good... if you can get past that part, it is worth the trouble. AaronLee Well-Known Member Dec 28, 2011 98 0 0 Interactive Designer Philadelphia #14 AaronLee, Mar 15, 2013 Are....are people critiquing the play style of the game? I guess modern gaming really has ruined us. It's a 20 year old game! Haha. Definitely jumping on this. I was one of the handful of people that owned a Sega CD when it came out. Bad system, but it really had some gems of games, and Sonic CD was definitely one of them. I never owned it personally, but my best friend at the time did and we played the hell out of it. He even got a bonus soundtrack CD with his preorder, so I'm delighted to see that they included the American soundtrack as an option. It's a classic sonic game very much in the vein of Sonic 1 & 2, but with the twist of time travel. And this was essentially reverse engineered to be the best port of a game possible, so really worth getting if you enjoy the old Sonic game style. If you find that to be offputting, then maybe awesome games isn't your thing (I kid, mostly). AnarKitty Well-Known Member Oct 10, 2010 3,654 0 0 Minneapolis, USA #15 AnarKitty, Mar 16, 2013 This one's really fun, an example of the "they don't make 'em like they used to" cadre. Absolutely worth buying. AaronLee Well-Known Member Dec 28, 2011 98 0 0 Interactive Designer Philadelphia #16 AaronLee, Mar 17, 2013 Having spent some time with it, I have to say... THIS is how a port is supposed to be done. Perfectly optimized for every device it's released on. The controls are snappy and responsive, and the game caters to the nostalgic tastes of the players. You can choose the revving up style from the original Sonic CD, or the more stylized version from Sonic 2/3. You can choose the soundtrack you used to play with. Beyond all that, this is kind of a restoration as well. The intro animation looks as good as the cels they were animated on, and for those who played the Sega CD version know, it's a far cry from the quality it used to have. Toss in all the fun little features, and this really begins to feel like a love letter to a wonderful classic. This is how all old games should be brought to new platforms. I hope other devs are paying attention. KennyK Well-Known Member Feb 2, 2011 4,732 0 0 Scarlett Johansson's Hot Tub #17 KennyK, Mar 22, 2013 Sale on again!
