Yes dude, and yes I saw what they did there : 35% of the screen is taken by the "sky". So you lose a third of the screen for the gameplay. It is ok on tablet, because the screen is big enough. But for the phone screen, I wanted to use 100% of the screen for the gameplay. We even tried to "bend" the BG to see if we could reduce the sky portion of the screen, but it did not look good. So we went like Battleheart, with like 10% of sky in the background. "Design alert ! ;-)" The problem here is that how do you "cancel the action" ?Whenever you touch the screen your character goes. But maybe I got you wrong, please point me to the RPG you are talking about here. Thank you very much for that. I did the original writing in French, then I rewrote everything in english, since you can translate most of the jokes/puns/cultural references. I am so happy you enjoyed the humor, it took me 2 months to do the rewriting in english. For the German translation, Anna rewrote again everything, but she did not insert jokes. She made everything rhymes ;-) She is German, and she thought that German would prefer poetry instead of jokes for an RPG. So we tried like that, but so far no comment on that from Germany ;-) Cheers, Nicolas
Mmm, I am not sure to see what you are talking about... You mean one button in the corner that you could swipe to display all the heroes one by one ? Could you please explain your idea in detail ?
Thanks Arnold. Yes, our trip on BB10 was incredible. We got huge push by the Head Office in Canada. They really appreciate the game. The reviews from the players made (and still make) me cry of happiness. But BB10 is in big trouble. To be honest, I am not sure the Blackberry Appworld will survive 2014. We were the last one who publish on BB10 in exclusivity, and it was 3 months back. After that, who came on the Platform ? A few port from Gameloft, EA, Badland and Contre-jour, that's it. We are currently waiting for Blackberry to tell us (and the world) what do they plan to do concerning their phones. Because so far nobody from Blackberry (not even the new CEO) ever talk about that since 2 months.
Huh...I played through Sefirah on my iphone 4s and loved it. I even started playing through it again for fun. The difference to me IS the gameplay; when i lose a battle its not because i couldn't get to my guys, its simply because i didn't use good enough strategy. I do agree that the sky probably takes up more screen than it has to, but its not something i noticed until you mentioned it. Maybe i just have really good eye sight to play this on a phone To cancel the action, you just click somewhere else. Heroes vs Monsters (as mentioned previously by someone else) used this method and I personally liked it better than having to draw across the screen for every action. Drawing across the screen while needing to see where I'm drawing can be difficult; especially on a phone. So being able to simply tap where i want to go is a lot more freeing.
I think he means if you push the button, it selects one of your guys. If you push it again, it goes to the next guy in your roster and continually cycles through them as you push. Not a bad compromise IMO. Takes up less space than the Sefirah mechanic. However, this ideally works with a 'tap screen' function like Heroes vs Monsters as previously discussed. Side note: Nicolipo, do you mind telling us what software you used to make this game? Cocos2D? Unity?
One way you can exceed battleheart is by adding side tabs for each member. This way, people don't have to rely on clicking on them in the mess of battle.
Yea this guy was hard for me too until i figured out the trick to dealing with his branch grabbing skill.
So yea I agree this game needs something battle heart didn't have and that is a option to pick who you really wanna touch, the diamond trick that you recomend does not work in boss battles... Everything gets so cramped that my tank will die as my dps guy is right on the tank. When you start getting further in the game this becomes a issue it did with battle heart as well and made many losses because u could not touch the right player.
Is it even possible to beat the tree boss. Maybe I just suck at this game but he seems to wipe out my whole party in seconds.
Thanks ! Thanks for that ! Hope you can give your feedback as well, we are considering working on a sequel, since a lot of people gave us encouraging comments. Thank you in advance, Nicolas
You mean adding buttons on the side of the screen with like "avatar" of the heroes ? Because if I understood you correctly, the problem I see here is that it will reduce the size of the "playable area" on the phone, and this area is already very small on a phone. Please let me know if I understood correctly.
I had not tried Sephirah on the Iphone, only on the Ipad. I have just downloaded it on Iphone, I will let you know how I see this. The idea of having to cross the screen to perform the action was that all the times, the players has to move widely his thumbs. Not only tapping like in most of the games. But I will look more deeply into it for the next title. Because instead of choosing between clicking or drag and drop : Why not both ? ;-)
Mmmh....I am disappointed you say that. Because the idea of having bigger sprites, and slowing down the action was only to try to avoid the issues in Battleheart. Also, we have changed the "auto-alignment" actually. The heroes goes right and left of the targeted enemy. The never stay on the same side (apart if you are on the border on the screen, in that case the "auto_alignement" is up-down, like in Battleheart). We spend a lot of time designing that, I am so sad nobody noticed. It seemed such like an awesome idea when we thought of that :-(
Dude, no worry. [SPOILER ALERT] I think you did not get that you can destroy the roots. You have to be quick. When the ENT launch the "root attack", send Nutty Jack fast on the targeted hero, launch a few special attacks ("Rage"and "fire in the hole" should be enough) destroy the root, and get out of here before the ENT reach the targeted dps or healer.
As for many Indie RPGs, we went for Coco2dx. It is cross platform, C++, so we felt it was better for us. We don't think we could have done a better game with Unity, considering our level of expertise.
Agreed; both would be awesome. If you haven't tried Heroes vs Monsters i think that might be a good representation of both. Its essentially a Battleheart clone and while it does a few things better (like the controls) its still not as good as Battleheart. Thanks for talking with all of us so openly as well Nicolipo. Not all developers do this so its refreshing when some do
Just finished the game and had lots of fun doing it. A battleheart clone it sure is, and a good one at that. Only criticism would be to try to make this game your own. From the skill trees to the gear to the combat it was too similar to battleheart. That and merchant never seemed to have enough gere for me to purchase. It's refreshing to be able to play an ios game with no iap, and a free one at that. By the end of the game i had more coin than i could spend with no real grinding. Would definetely pay for a sequel. Job well done.
