Oooooh! Okay, so much for that theory! You woulda seen how fat she was anyway at some point, right?! Cats are weird, That's what I hate about 'em! They don't act like they need you or care lots of times. Well, glad she showed up anyway! At least you know she's okay and not road pizza somewhere. Maybe it'll rain and she'll wanna come back in! Who knows? Hope so!

Robbie, dude, I'm glad your cat is alive. They are some independent creatures, so don't let that standoffishness hurt you. Keep putting out that food, that water, she'll come back. Or she won't. She's got a wild gene, one dogs have lost, that you gotta respect.

Miss my cats. Grew up with a few, and they were absolutely brilliant. I'm older now, with kids, and can't quite take on cats too. But I will! Some day..

    Hold on, Robbie!

There are ways to humanely trap your cat. Cats have very short lives typically when living as either indoor/outdoor or purely outdoor cats.

''The expected lifespan of an indoor-outdoor cat will depend on several factors, including the type of neighborhood you live in and sheer luck. But, on average, cats who are allowed to roam outdoors often don't live to see age five. Cats who are always kept safely confined can live to be 18 to 20 years old."

    That is from the SPCA.

I would encourage you to try and get your cat back, and keep it indoors. You can talk with your local animal shelter about ways to humanely trap your cat.

Hello Robbie, I lost my cat too last summer now still look for her. When we look for her we learn many things. We didn't find her yet but we found other cats and reunite them with owners^^ if you want to get back your cat you need to set "humane trap". Humane trap can be rent from vet or buy one on Internet. Set trap with her favorite food and wait but maybe it can be long wait. Cat may be scared to go in but be patient. Sometimes can take a few days! Good luck to find your cat^^

To give you a bit of hope my sisters completely deaf white cat vanished for probably about 2 OR 3 years I'd written it off personally and honestly thought it had run foul of either a dog or car.

So anyway she eventually bought a new kitten and about 1 week later the lost cat was meowing to get back in, how it survived so long or where it actually was I've no idea but it must have done ok, I assume it must have been in the area and smelt the kitten or something then decided to come back.

If you get it back you for sure need to keep it inside. Cats left out or let out kill birds like a meat grinder. A lot of places have adopted or are working on regulations regarding cats due to the large number of bird deaths. And whether the cat is well fed or not is irrelevant. They hunt and kill just for the fun of it.

@Gamer1st: Seriously? Regulations to force you to keep your cat inside cause some birds get killed? Geez, the world is coming to an end for sure :p

@Robbie: If she wants to go out, by all means let her. From my experience you either have "house cats" who wouldn't move outside if you put up a feast for them ("nah, nice and warm here, and I have a human to boss around") . Or "outside cats" who go bonkers if they have to stay inside when they think "hey, good time for a stroll". My cat is the latter type.
Also, for the record, bird killing and such also depends on the cat. Mine owns me for 10 years now. And she killed 2 mice and 1 bird in total. Of course, it might have helped that the one time she thought it's smart to climb a tree to catch a bird she got scared as all hell and I had to get her down from it right in a rainstorm ;)

Cats don't kill just for the fun of it, they do it for their person/people. If your cat kills something and doesn't bring it to you, it doesn't like you very much. All cats are predators, house cats just don't eat their prey because they're not hungry. Instead they bring their catch to the person who keeps them from being hungry, as a gift. It's kind of a weird but incredibly fascinating aspect of their nature.

I thought it was silly the first time I read it too. But there are species of birds that are being wiped out by "domesticated" cats, (as if you can domesticate a cat). Who'd have thunk it?

They also kill plenty of other things just to keep their skill-set sharp. For "fun" or for "sport" or whatever other term you choose the damage is being done. Out of a dozen kills, they might bring a couple of them as "presents".

My old roommate's cat once chased a baby rabbit into our ground level apartment and into the bathroom. It was ridiculous! It took both of us to save the poor thing before the cat got it, lol. That cat would leave a present on the porch almost every day. McGurk was the craziest cat I've ever seen.

Back around 38 or 39 years ago I had a baby duck I'd gotten for Easter. It had grown up to about half full size but didn't have all its white adult feathers yet. I got up on Mothers Day and looked out back and a very large black male had killed the duck, a couple of small fish in a bucket, and tried to eat a snail, (about the size of a walnut) too. The only thing that saved the snail was his shell. The cat did just enough damage to the duck to kill it but didn't eat it.
    I was not amused.
