I have an ipod Touch 2G, and the battery is beginning to lose it's charge. I am thinking about upgrading it to the 4g, but have some questions. 1. I have heard that the 4G Touch has either 256 MB RAM or 512. Which one is true? Some spec sites say one, some say the other. Also how much RAM does the 2G have? 2. I heard that the processor in the 4G 1GHZ, the same as the Ipad. Is this true or is it underclocked? If so how much faster is that than the 2G one? I have noticed that with OS4, my 2G has really slowed. 3.Would you recommend I just get a new battery or get the upgrade? I play a lot of games and use the ipod Touch daily, but money is kind of tight. Thanks a lot.
http://www.apple.com/ipodtouch/specs.html And I suggest upgrading. I myself just upgraded from a 2G Touch to an i4 just over a month ago.
1. Unfortunately it contains 256MB of RAM, however since I've been using mine I haven't had an app crash because of a lack of memory. EDIT: The 2g contains 128MB of RAM. 2. I believe it's 1ghz, although I haven't been able to find if it's under clocked or not, the 2g is 600mhz but under clocked to 533mhz. 3. I upgraded from my 2g just over a week ago, and it's well and truly worth it. Much faster, and the battery life is brilliant.
these questions are irrelevant as a buying decsicion. Go to an electronic market an see then difference for yourself. The numbers will tell you nothing about the experience, you have to SEE it. Maybe they have the Citadel demo and NOVA running. If you have the money GET THE 4G. Retina is AWESOME. If you are on a budget update your 2G battery. There will be plenty of games for the 2G around for the next 12months to come. And there are only a dozen games that NEED a 4G to run. And these numbers will not rise so dramatically, considering the number of 2G/3G user base.
So the difference is pretty noticeable then? Looks like its off to walmart later on then! One more question though: What is retina?
Big difference between the two. I personally went from 2G to 4G and noticed a big change, much better in every way. The retina display basically makes everything look sharper if the game supports it. I think it just has to do with adjusting the resolution as the new 4G has three times the pixels. Also looks fantastic when browsing the web, and there are like virtually no pixelated edges on curves.
To save battery life. The more powerful it is, the more power it takes to run it. A difference between how much processing you actually need vs how much battery life they want to have.
Masmo: Big difference between the two. I personally went from 2G to 4G and noticed a big change, much better in every way. *********** Coldar: I'm seeing the big difference also. A big jump for me when going from an 8G to a 64G as well. I'm a little overwhelmed with all the space now available but already in anticipation of new games to fill that bar.
qft Plenty of space, can run 4.0 fully, and it does not feel dated, even with the new touch out. Can't wait for 5g!
That may make sense for a 3G, but not for a 2G. The difference between the two is night and day, imo. And this is coming from someone who avoids Apple products at all costs. The 4G Touch is a great step up from the 2G.
I agree. I switched up from a 2nd gen to a 4th and it is simply amazing. From the customizable background and multitasking to the retina display and cameras. I upgraded from a 16g to a 32g, so more space too!
actually the Retina display has 4 times the pixels in the same screen size than the 2G/3GS iPhone/iPod has. Or in other terms twice the pixel per inch-density (PPI). The 2G/3G have a resolution of 480x320 pixels, the 4Gs 960x640 pixels.
