I experienced it on both wizard and archmage difficulties. I was using ball lightning with level 8 more missiles, 4 chaining, 4 stun, 1 potent missiles, 2 magic missile, and around level 10 lightning. I was also using the +150% cast speed ring. Overall frame rate seemed lower than in 2.1, but that could be because i was easily able to keep 100+ ball lightnings onscreen...

Unrelated question: how is the damage of a welded skill determined? I know it's some combination of the two primary skills, but which has a larger impact? For ball lightning, does lightning determine the arc damage and magic missile determine the initial damage?

It's a somewhat complicated mix, but it's also randomized a little so that your weld is never 100% the same twice. In the case of Magic Missile and Lightning, the damage leans a smidge more toward lightning, with the arcings doing a slightly modified mix over one second.

I can't easily post the welding equation because it's not really an equation... it's code. It's full of conditionals and whatnot. For instance, mana usage on welded skills is a LOT worse if you're using more than one secondary skill, and all the welds take into consideration which skill is higher and use that as a factor.

But the damage can best be described as averaging the two, then add some random factor. But the randomness is set up so that if you increase one of your ingredient skills, you WILL get more damage out of the weld-- i.e. it won't roll your damage down when you next weld.

Also, note that on the stats page, the damage is rounded down to the nearest whole number to keep the page clean. So even if your numbers went from, like, damage 3-4 to damage 3-5, it might actually have gone from 3.01-4.02 to 3.75-5.99.

And yet, with all those balls of lightning flying around, you still were only getting slowdowns when demons were present? I.E. a billion lightning bolts didn't give you any issues when it was just skeletons?

This is killing me. There's NOTHING special about demons, heh.

just spent hours in one game just to get glitched out.... I exited one of the doors to outside of the tower, and instead of being in front of the door I was sent outside of the walls, stuck there..... it might have been some glitch with me spending 28k for levels, cause it didn't give me any exp or levels.... anyway, there's a bug for you guys to figure out.

I did notice some slowing during the busier fights, but it was negligible. What lefrisbee and I are concerned about is when the frame rate absolutely DIES. When I first encountered it it was so slow I thought it froze, and I have ONLY seen this when fighting the demons. Even when everything else was dead and only one demon was left the frame rate stays low. But as soon as that last demon is killed everything is back to normal. Some additional info for ya: just finished playing through wizard difficulty with flame lash and didn't encounter the frame rate issue, will post later about archmage.

Another smaller bug (because I know you love them). During my first playthrough of 2.0 using ball lightning I upgraded potent missiles to level 1, but then when I went to the skill trainer in town it said it was maxed out (at level one).

I am not sure if this is intentional or what, but every time I go into town and come back my health is fully restored.

I've been able to reproduce it, after you die just hit main menu instead of continue then hit play, and it won't count your deaths.

First let me say this: This game is... completely awesome... I reviewed it when it came out but this version has made it so much better, so... grats to the dev for an awesome game, hope this gets better and better.

Now on to the things I found:

Controls tend to get "stuck" mainly the movement one, but has happened to both, might be worth it looking a bit into it, I don't mind it too much but could get annoying in the heat of a fight.

When you're fighting lots of enemies and you level up, they ALL sloooow down after you've selected your skill, and this lasts for a bit. I myself love this effect, but is it actually on purpose?

Are Wizard and Archmage difficulties basically new game +? (I kept all my items and stuff). If so, how can I choose the difficulty I wanna play @ later on? Is there a reset button just in case I want to start all over (havent ever seen this one, but I could be blind).

    Great, great game.

I can answer both of these questions from Raptisoft's previous replies in this thread.

The post-level-up slow-down is intentional. It's just meant to make the level-up seem more significant in the gameplay itself.

Wizard and Archmage difficulties are indeed a New Game +. You keep items, abilities, and stats. You can only play a harder difficulty after beating the previous one (Student, Wizard, and then Archmage). There is a reset button; you will find it if you press the left button on the main menu.

On that note, one thing I noticed: When I beat the game on Student difficulty, I checked immediately after, and the Reset button was grayed out. Thus, the only way for me to reset (if I had wanted to) would be to start the game in Wizard difficulty, go to main menu, then reset the gamesave. Not a large bug, but not ideal either.

This has been exactly my experience. Framerate returns perfectly to normal once the final demon is dispatched. And, despite general framerate problems throughout the whole game, it was only playing through Wizard difficulty and when fighting demons that I experienced this crippling framerate issue. I'm playing through the Archmage difficulty right now; if the bug reproduces itself, I will post all of my stats, abilities, etc., as well as multiple screenshots. Again, this didn't happen in Student difficulty.
General information about my abilities when I experienced this bug before: I had Lightning at level 20 with full stun and 4 or 5 to Arching. I didn't use any melding or any of that. The first time I saw the bug, I was using Magic Circle, fully leveled-up. Magic Circle seemed to make the slow-down worse, but don't hold me to that. I also had a Magic Shield up throughout each slow-down. Unlike Draikani, I did not have any +casting speed items.

Just to let you know that the first 2 reviews for ver 2.0 went up yesterday on the UK store. One is mine. And they both have 5 stars.

All of the fellow players, Please update your reviews and increase stars if you can as the new update as addressed all of the old concerns.

My only nag so far is, There is a lot of experience required to lvl up on the wizard difficulty and this does not keep up with the increasing difficulty. I have 2 exp50% items and I only had 2 lvl ups in like 6 floors.

Having weld does not help either. Firstly, because the weld does not auto update with the new learned skills. Secondly, because the wel itself takes a skill point and at later difficulties that is very important to actually update your main skills instead of weld.

Can you make weld a passive skill? so that it auto updates itself?

Dagnabbit, this one is supposed to be nailed... it didn't appear at all during the beta. I'll look into it.

Well-- that would defeat the way the welds are balanced. They're fairly overpowered, but the excuse is, you only get to update it every 5 levels... so it's a choice: should I be overbalanced for a few levels, and then maybe have a tough time, or shall I walk the straight and narrow. :)

But welds happen every five levels, and the first levelup you get after obtaining two primary skills... but only from level 10 up.

Wizard is supposed to be hard! But you do levelup early on in the earlier levels fairly fast. If it kept going and going at that rate, the keep would always be a cakewalk.

A note: After level 25, a couple new skills are available, one which makes you cast faster, and another which makes you do a % more damage. I suggest picking those up. After level 20, you also can pick up a third secondary skill, so look for that, too!

Ugh, 10 rooms into a floor and damn glitch got me killed. One of those superpowered big zombie looking things got glitched onto me. I was running around and he hit me, then basically his arm attached to me it looked like and everywhere I moved he was attached to me... :S

the inventory button is too small, hard to hit during the battle. now i have lightning 13 level with 50% via dmg boost skill and full mana bar. it takes the whole bar to kill like two zombies. and if in the room there are many of them, because they are harmless, it just takes a lot of time to deal with them. also got channel mana skill at the beginning, but now 31 level and this skill never appeared again after level ups! also no such loot found, and it not available for level up by paying gold to that wizard at keep. randomness is cool, but at least if skill was chosen there should be chance to improve it! or shop should be refreshed after each level, for example. :/ and now my build is just f useless. on level 8-9 it's just kill one, back, meditation, atack and so on. it's just artificial! why just not make many enemies, instead of tougher boring and really harmless zombies. omg, i feel like a kid again, when games made me f mad. back to work. :D
btw, new boss is so lame, if these small fkrs get to you, it's impossible to move away...

Okay, I'm on Floor 7 in Archmage difficulty, and I'm just going to start the game over. These slow-downs make it impossible to keep going. This playthrough, the slowdowns started to be noticeable on Floor 6, when there were four zombies on the screen at the same time. Then, when I had to fight demons on Floor 7, the game slowed to a crawl. I tried to play for a while, but it was just ridiculous, and I can't go through 5 floors like this. I took several screenshots of various times that the framerate died, and I'll add those to this post in a little bit. Since I'm about to reset, I'll write down all of my abilities/items (stats page will be in the screenshots):

    Mana Up 4
    Channel Mana 4
    Rush 3
    Battle Mage 8
    Mental Focus 1
    Telekenesis 1
    Magic Shield 3
    Fireball 3
    Lightning 20
    Chaining 4
    Stun 4
    Creativity 1
    Magic Circle 5
    Siege Mage 4
    Flame Lash

    Currently equipped:
    RINGS
    +2 to Lightning
    Earn 100% More EXP

    STAFF
+2 to Lightning, +2 to Battle Mage

    Inventory:
    Gold: 53,642
    Magic Key
    Ring: +2 to Battle Mage
    Staff: Resist 45% of damage
    Staff: Find 1000% more Gold
Staff: +2 to Lightning, +2 to Chaining
    Ring: +3 to Stun
Staff: +2 to Fire Ball, +4 to damage
    Ring: +75% Mana recovery

Screenies will be up soon. Also, a random question: When I equip the +3 Stun ring, Stun goes to level 7, and it says "Stun: 100%." What does that mean? Enemies still move when I use 100% Stun on them, so where does the 100% number come from?

EDIT 1: Random polish you should add: On the Reset screen, the "RE?" at the end of the warning message is white, while the rest of the message is red.

I'm in the process of playing the game through, and I'm on level 11 of Archmage using chain lightning, and I haven't seen any slowdown.

I'm going to make an artificial build with your stats, but I want to double-check something... when you say the FPS drops, you're getting FRAME SKIPPING, right? So that too much time happens between each drawn frame, and things are popping around the screen, correct?

Because while playing, I am getting frozen a lot by the frost mages, and that slows me down. Combining that with the magic circle makes everything look like it's going slow.

I just want to make sure that's not the issue.

Stun of 100% actually slows a creature down 99%, so you'll still see them move a bit, albeit at a crawl.
